I've got designs. Let's have a look.

These torn edges have given me an idea.

Let's try something.

Try using torn paper to make a street

that reaches as far as you want it to go

and can have anything you want on it.

Let's make it!

We'll need things from the Doodle Drawers.

Coloured pages from an old magazine.

A square of coloured card.

A paintbrush!

And some brown paint.

Woo! Now to make your street,

like this, you first need to use your brown paint

and paint a thick brown stripe in the centre of your card.

Now this looks great on blue card.

But if you haven't got blue card, don't worry. You can paint it blue.

Take brightly coloured paper you've torn out of old magazines

and then tear them up some more.

And then sort them into piles of different colours -

like this.

Now you're ready to design your street.

Can you guess what I'm going to make first? Mmm.

Look! It's a house. Now stick on the doors and windows.

Let's decorate the rest of it.

You could make a tree. That can be made by using a strip of brown.

And a bigger piece of green.

You could decorate your street with lots more trees and grass.

It's a great effect, isn't it?

I've even put a pink pig walking down the street.

To make your street longer you need to make more squares.

You can fill your squares with anything you like.

Let's take a closer look.

Oh! Here we are.

Why not try making a crossroads? It looks like a road

that's cross-shaped!

Or even a curved road,

so all of your streets connect together.

You can go as far as you like. Why don't you try and make it?

Ooh! Always look out for traffic.

I think I ought to make a torn paper zebra crossing.

Woo! Here's what we're making today.

It's a scouring pad butterfly.

Look at her. Isn't she beautiful?

Now to make a butterfly you'll need -

-a straw...

-SLURP!

Tasty.

..Some scissors,

three different bits of scouring pad.

It doesn't matter what colour they are

but you need one piece to be a rectangle.

And you'll need some sticky tape.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this in one minute?

Not a chance!

Really? Let's find out.

I'll have to be quick, but don't worry,

I'll remind you how to do it later. Ready?

Start the clock!

Let's go.

Get your rectangle-shaped scouring pad, fold it in half.

Then with your scissors,

cut out a butterfly shape like this.

-Be careful!

-I am! Don't worry.

Round we go...

Be careful cos scissors are sharp.

Round... like that.

OK.

Open it and there's a butterfly shape.

If we get our straw,

we'll make a snip in the top like this.

This is to make the antennae.

Put those apart like that and stick it in place

with some tape.

Let's give the butterfly some colour.

Make triangles...

..and a few squares as well.

Let's stick them on.

And you've got yourself a butterfly!

Time!

Thanks, Tocky. That was close.

But if you've got more than a minute,

you could stick your pieces down with glue.

You could make different coloured butterflies and even some bugs.

Why not try making different bugs - like a ladybird or a tropical bug?

A scouring-pad straw butterfly

made in a minute.

Why don't you give it a go?

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Let's go back and take another look.

Fold the scouring pad in half.

Carefully cut out a wing-shape.

Cut a snip down the straw for the butterfly's antennae,

stick the straw onto the wing-shape

and stick on different-coloured shapes

to your scouring-pad butterfly.

Try making it in a minute.

Now it's time to frame it!

Now have a look at this.

Here's an idea that's great fun to do,

and it's so good you'll be able to frame it.

You'll need some white, sticky PVA glue,

some sticky-backed plastic,

some coloured tissue paper

and a black felt-tip pen.

Add a bit of water to your PVA glue to make it nice and runny.

Then draw a picture onto a piece of paper with a black felt-tip pen.

Now cover your drawing with sticky-backed plastic.

It's a good idea to stick two corners first,

and then peel the backing off.

If you find this hard, get an adult to help you.

Now for the fun part.

Cover the picture with glue.

Then get some ripped up pieces of coloured tissue paper

and place them down onto your picture anywhere you like.

To make it really strong,

you can cover it with another layer of glue.

Leave it for at least a day and a night, until it's dry.

This looks good already,

but you can finish it off by redrawing the black outline

with your pen.

And now, very carefully,

peel off the picture from the sticky-backed plastic.

Why not stick this on a window, so that the light shines through it?

Doesn't it look fantastic?

What a great way of making a really clever picture.

Now all that's left to do is... frame it.

A fantastic space-age city,

fit for friendly aliens to live in.

Let's make it. We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers!

Some empty plastic containers.

You'll need to collect lots of different shapes and sizes.

Some paint.

A hideous tie.

Ooh, no.

It's not my colour.

And a black pen.

Whoo!

Whoa!

Now, to make your very own space-age city, like this one here,

start off by painting one of your containers with grey paint.

And once it's dry,

paint parts of the container in bright colours.

You can paint whatever colour you like. I'll start with orange.

There, that's looking good.

Now I'm going to add a little bit of blue.

There. Keep going until you've done a few parts in different colours.

Finish off by adding extra details

with a black felt-tip pen.

Give your building lots of windows, doors and space-age landing pads.

And there you have it!

One space-age building.

And you can make lots and lots of space-age buildings.

In fact, find and decorate as many containers as you can!

Whoa!

And the more buildings you make,

the bigger your space-age city will grow.

Wow!
