# Make it Mister Maker. # Mister Maker!

0:00:370:00:42

Oh, hello there. Great to see you again.

0:00:430:00:46

I was about to have a bowl of Mister Make-a-flakes.

0:00:460:00:50

They're the tastiest, flakiest, tasty flaky flakes around.

0:00:500:00:54

Yeah, they're very tasty, you know. Very tasty indeed.

0:00:540:00:58

This box is difficult to open.

0:00:580:01:01

Hmmm...

0:01:010:01:03

Oh, no! That's torn it, hasn't it?

0:01:040:01:08

That's torn it? 'Ere, that's torn it.

0:01:080:01:12

This gives me a great idea.

0:01:120:01:16

Try using torn paper to create terrific patterns.

0:01:160:01:22

Let's make it. We'll need some things from the doodle drawers.

0:01:220:01:27

Some coloured paper.

0:01:290:01:32

A glue stick.

0:01:360:01:38

A rubber duck?! No, I don't think so.

0:01:410:01:44

That would be quackers. Quackers? Quack...? No? OK.

0:01:440:01:49

And a silver pen.

0:01:520:01:55

Whoa! Now, to make your own torn paper pattern,

0:01:550:02:00

like this one here, you need a big piece of coloured paper.

0:02:000:02:04

Now, I've got a purple piece here. This is going to be our background.

0:02:040:02:09

We need another piece of paper. A different colour

0:02:090:02:13

and we can start tearing all sorts of shapes and sizes.

0:02:130:02:16

How about a square shape first?

0:02:160:02:19

And how about another square shape now?

0:02:210:02:24

But this time with torn strips down the length of it.

0:02:240:02:27

Almost to the end.

0:02:290:02:31

It looks a bit like a comb.

0:02:310:02:33

Let's get another bit of yellow paper. This one will be a spiral.

0:02:330:02:37

What a great spiral.

0:02:440:02:46

That's a fantastic shape.

0:02:460:02:48

Let's try another colour. How about... I know, green!

0:02:480:02:52

Let's tear out a rectangle shape this time

0:02:540:02:56

and if we fold this in half like that

0:02:560:03:01

and then tear out a shape from the folded edge like this.

0:03:010:03:05

Open it up and place it on your paper.

0:03:050:03:09

Keep going with lots of pieces of coloured paper.

0:03:090:03:13

You can make as many tears and shapes as you want to.

0:03:130:03:16

When you're happy with all your torn pieces stick them down with glue.

0:03:180:03:24

When it's finished, it looks like this.

0:03:270:03:30

For some more detail, you can draw dots and patterns all over it.

0:03:300:03:34

This silver pen makes a fantastic effect.

0:03:340:03:37

Doesn't it look brilliant?

0:03:380:03:41

And here are some other patterns you can make too.

0:03:410:03:45

This is made with red, green and yellow paper.

0:03:450:03:48

And this is made with yellow, blue and purple paper.

0:03:480:03:52

Amazing! Clever pictures made by tearing up paper.

0:03:520:03:55

But now I've got to go and clear up

0:03:550:03:58

all those Mister Maker flakes that I spilt on the floor earlier.

0:03:580:04:02

Yes, there'll be no more tearing for me today.

0:04:020:04:05

RIPPING

0:04:050:04:07

Oh, no! My trousers!

0:04:070:04:10

HE LAUGHS

0:04:100:04:11

Excuse me.

0:04:110:04:13

Who's that snoring?

0:04:130:04:15

Oh, it's the Shapes.

0:04:150:04:17

They're asleep again.

0:04:170:04:20

Let's wake them up.

0:04:200:04:22

THEY SNORE

0:04:230:04:25

Aah!

0:04:270:04:28

SHAPE LAUGHS

0:04:280:04:30

ALL: Oh, hey, ah, yeah!

0:04:300:04:34

ALL: Whee!

0:04:340:04:37

# I am a shape

0:04:420:04:44

# I am a shape

0:04:470:04:48

# I am a shape

0:04:520:04:53

# I am a shape

0:04:570:04:58

# I am a circle

0:05:020:05:03

# I am a triangle

0:05:060:05:08

# I am a square

0:05:110:05:13

# I am a rectangle

0:05:160:05:18

# I am a shape

0:05:200:05:22

# I am a circle. #

0:05:240:05:26

The circles are making a picture. What's it going to be?

0:05:260:05:31

Can you guess?

0:05:310:05:33

It's a mouse!

0:05:400:05:42

Well done, Circle!

0:05:420:05:44

Time to get back on the shelf.

0:05:440:05:45

ALL: Whee!

0:05:450:05:49

ALL: Ooh!

0:05:500:05:52

THEY SIGH

0:05:520:05:54

THEY SNORE

0:05:540:05:56

What a brilliant puzzle. Those Shapes are so tricky.

0:05:580:06:02

-DOORS OPEN

-Ooh!

0:06:020:06:03

Tocky here. Minute make time, minute make time.

0:06:030:06:08

Hey, it's minute make time.

0:06:080:06:11

It's minute make time and here's what we're gonna make today.

0:06:120:06:16

A pencil bug!

0:06:160:06:17

-Aye, aye, Mister Bug.

-Ooh-ooh!

0:06:170:06:20

Now, to make a pencil bug, you will need...

0:06:200:06:23

two long pieces of wool, four short pieces of wool,

0:06:230:06:27

a sharp pencil plus some googly eyes and some air-drying clay.

0:06:270:06:33

You can find them in an art and craft shop.

0:06:330:06:36

I'll be back in a tick.

0:06:360:06:38

CAR ENGINE REVS

0:06:390:06:41

I've got them.

0:06:410:06:44

Right, here are the googly eyes.

0:06:450:06:48

I'm gonna leave the air-drying clay in the bag for now.

0:06:480:06:52

Now, do you think it's possible to make this

0:06:520:06:55

in just one minute?

0:06:550:06:57

Not a chance!

0:06:570:06:59

Oh, let's find out. I'm gonna have to be very quick!

0:06:590:07:03

But don't worry. I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:07:030:07:07

Let's make it in a minute. Start the clock!

0:07:070:07:09

BELL RINGS

0:07:090:07:11

Two lumps of air-drying clay.

0:07:110:07:13

One slightly bigger than the other.

0:07:130:07:15

I'm gonna rip a bit off the big bit

0:07:150:07:18

and make a small ball in one hand

0:07:180:07:20

and one in the other and put those to the side.

0:07:200:07:23

These are going to be the head and the body.

0:07:230:07:26

Let's squidge those together. The head goes on top.

0:07:260:07:30

Now, I'm gonna give our pencil bug some hair.

0:07:300:07:35

I'll push it in with the pencil.

0:07:350:07:37

Now if I turn it over, there's one arm on there.

0:07:370:07:40

Give him an arm on the other side.

0:07:400:07:44

As quickly as I can.

0:07:440:07:45

Now, he needs some legs.

0:07:450:07:47

He needs legs. Let's give him two.

0:07:470:07:49

Let's give him some legs there.

0:07:490:07:52

There's one leg and there's the other.

0:07:520:07:54

He's looking good.

0:07:540:07:56

Let's give him some eyes. Just squidge those in.

0:07:560:07:59

There's one and two.

0:07:590:08:01

Now we can give him feet with these smaller balls there.

0:08:010:08:05

There's one and there's two

0:08:050:08:07

and then we can push a pencil in the bottom.

0:08:070:08:11

-That was close!

-That was close!

0:08:110:08:13

When your pencil bug is dry and you have more than a minute,

0:08:130:08:17

you could paint it a bright colour and maybe cover it in PVA glue

0:08:170:08:22

to keep everything stuck together.

0:08:220:08:24

Plus there are lots of other ideas you can try too.

0:08:240:08:28

How about a stripy, orange and red one?

0:08:280:08:30

You can even make one with lots of arms.

0:08:300:08:33

Ooh!

0:08:330:08:35

Pencil bugs made in a minute. Why don't you try it?

0:08:350:08:39

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:08:390:08:42

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:08:420:08:46

Roll two large balls and two small balls of clay

0:08:460:08:49

Put the large balls together to make a head and body.

0:08:490:08:53

Push in the wool with a pencil to make hair, arms and legs.

0:08:530:08:58

Stick on your googly eyes.

0:08:580:09:01

Add the two small balls for feet.

0:09:010:09:06

Now you can stick your pencil bug onto your pencil.

0:09:060:09:11

Why don't you try making it in a minute?

0:09:130:09:16

ALL: Hello, Mister Maker. Guess what we're making today.

0:09:160:09:23

I don't know. Let's find out.

0:09:230:09:26

I'm orange.

0:09:320:09:35

I am purple.

0:09:450:09:47

I am red.

0:09:560:09:59

I am black.

0:10:030:10:05

I am green.

0:10:060:10:09

I am grey.

0:10:100:10:13

ALL: It's a crown!

0:10:180:10:21

Well done, everyone! See you next time.

0:10:210:10:24

Now it's time to...

0:10:240:10:25

..frame it!

0:10:250:10:27

Frame it.

0:10:270:10:29

Frame it.

0:10:310:10:33

Now, take a look at this.

0:10:330:10:37

It's a brilliant rainbow picture.

0:10:370:10:40

It was made using chalk pastels and torn paper.

0:10:400:10:44

It's very easy to do but makes a picture look so good,

0:10:440:10:47

you'll be able to frame it.

0:10:470:10:49

You will need blue, light green and dark green paper,

0:10:490:10:53

some colourful chalk pastels,

0:10:530:10:56

a ruler, a pencil, a rubber and some glue.

0:10:560:11:00

To make a rainbow picture,

0:11:000:11:02

start off by drawing a faint pencil line across your page

0:11:020:11:07

just below the middle, with a ruler.

0:11:070:11:09

Starting at your pencil line,

0:11:110:11:14

draw a big curve with a red chalk pastel

0:11:140:11:16

in the middle of the paper, like this on top of the pencil line.

0:11:160:11:21

Now do the same in orange above it

0:11:210:11:26

and do it once again with yellow.

0:11:260:11:28

We're going to keep following this pattern

0:11:280:11:31

with the colours of the rainbow.

0:11:310:11:33

That's green, blue, purple and indigo.

0:11:330:11:36

Use your hand and fingers to smudge the rainbow colours

0:11:360:11:40

right across the page.

0:11:400:11:41

It gives a wonderful hazy effect.

0:11:410:11:44

Now, wipe your hands.

0:11:440:11:46

Then to make the hills, tear off one corner of the paper

0:11:460:11:50

making sure that you leave two straight edges.

0:11:500:11:53

Now you can match up the corner of the torn out piece

0:11:530:11:56

to the bottom of the rainbow picture

0:11:560:11:59

to make a hill.

0:11:590:12:00

Now do the same for the other side with some dark green paper.

0:12:000:12:04

You can add as many hills as you like

0:12:040:12:07

and stick them down.

0:12:070:12:10

Now take a clean rubber and rub out any leftover pencil line.

0:12:100:12:15

And as a finishing touch, draw flowers on the hills

0:12:150:12:19

with the chalk pastels.

0:12:190:12:21

Beautiful!

0:12:210:12:23

What a brilliant picture. Why don't you have a go?

0:12:230:12:27

And then...frame it!

0:12:270:12:30

What a lovely rainbow.

0:12:300:12:33

Now, take a look at this.

0:12:330:12:37

It's my magic pencil

0:12:370:12:39

and it can draw pictures all on its own.

0:12:390:12:42

Watch this!

0:12:420:12:44

What's my magic pencil up to this time?

0:12:450:12:50

Can you guess what it's drawing?

0:12:580:13:01

Any ideas?

0:13:030:13:05

It's a cowboy!

0:13:050:13:08

Well done, magic pencil!

0:13:080:13:10

Now, how about a story?

0:13:100:13:12

This book that I'm reading is brilliant!

0:13:120:13:15

It's so exciting. Listen to this.

0:13:150:13:18

"It was a cold and stormy night.

0:13:180:13:21

"The wind howled and the rain poured

0:13:210:13:26

"as old Albert Maker, the famous fisherman

0:13:260:13:31

"struggled against the high seas in his tiny fishing boat.

0:13:310:13:36

"He'd hit a rock and he was sinking fast.

0:13:360:13:41

"What was he going to do?

0:13:410:13:44

"He couldn't see dry land.

0:13:440:13:46

"Then, out of nowhere, came bursts of light.

0:13:460:13:50

"One after the other.

0:13:500:13:52

"A lighthouse! I'm saved!

0:13:520:13:56

"And by the light of the lighthouse

0:13:560:13:58

"old Albert Maker made his way safely home."

0:13:580:14:02

Wow! Albert was really brave.

0:14:020:14:05

You wouldn't catch me sailing on the high seas, no way!

0:14:050:14:09

Ooh! This gives me an idea though.

0:14:090:14:15

Let's make something!

0:14:150:14:17

A fantastic lighthouse made out of an empty crisp tube,

0:14:170:14:21

that can light up your room.

0:14:210:14:23

Let's make it! We'll need some things from the doodle drawers.

0:14:230:14:27

An empty cardboard crisp tube and a clear plastic jar with a lid.

0:14:300:14:34

Some newspaper and a black pen.

0:14:370:14:40

Some paint.

0:14:430:14:46

A piece of cardboard and an empty juice carton.

0:14:480:14:52

Some glue.

0:14:540:14:57

And some strips of red card and a torch.

0:14:590:15:03

Whoa! Now to make your very own lighthouse like this one here.

0:15:030:15:09

First make sure that your juice carton

0:15:090:15:12

is smaller than your piece of cardboard.

0:15:120:15:15

Let's have a look. Yes, it is.

0:15:150:15:18

Now we can use gloopy PVA glue to stick this on.

0:15:180:15:22

Now that's in position,

0:15:270:15:28

we can glue on our crisp tube on top of the juice carton.

0:15:280:15:33

And when you've done that, leave it to dry.

0:15:330:15:38

Then we scrunch up some newspaper

0:15:380:15:41

to cover our juice carton and the cardboard

0:15:410:15:43

because this is going to be the rocks

0:15:430:15:46

at the bottom of the lighthouse.

0:15:460:15:49

Now, the more scrunched up you make it,

0:15:490:15:51

the better it will look.

0:15:510:15:53

Glue scrunched up newspaper all over the carton.

0:15:580:16:02

Now it's dry, we can start painting it.

0:16:040:16:08

Let's do the crisp tube white.

0:16:080:16:10

And we can paint the newspaper grey

0:16:190:16:22

adding some white and blue paint on top of the grey

0:16:220:16:25

to make the crashing waves underneath the lighthouse.

0:16:250:16:29

Now, we need to add some red stripes to our lighthouse

0:16:290:16:33

like this.

0:16:330:16:34

Now, we do that by adding our red strips of card.

0:16:340:16:38

Put glue on one end of one of the bits of card.

0:16:380:16:43

And then, if we wrap it around the tube

0:16:450:16:49

so it overlaps and glue it together like that.

0:16:490:16:54

We get a stripe. Fantastic!

0:16:540:16:59

Start off by doing the bottom one

0:16:590:17:02

then do a stripe at the top and then one in the middle.

0:17:020:17:06

Now it's dry, we can add some windows and a door

0:17:090:17:14

with a black pen.

0:17:140:17:16

Now, let's take the lid off our plastic jar, like that.

0:17:280:17:33

Turn the jar upside down and then glue the lid on top.

0:17:330:17:40

Use a glue stick for this.

0:17:400:17:44

Put that on there. Perfect!

0:17:460:17:51

And if we put it on top, we've got ourselves a lighthouse! Fantastic!

0:17:510:17:56

Now, let's light it up...

0:17:560:17:58

by finding a torch that fits inside.

0:17:580:18:02

This one looks good. If we turn it on and pop it in.

0:18:020:18:06

We can put that on top.

0:18:070:18:10

Look! It looks fantastic!

0:18:100:18:12

Now, let's see if it works.

0:18:120:18:14

Let's turn down the lights.

0:18:140:18:17

There! You've got your very own lighthouse to see in the dark.

0:18:180:18:24

Doesn't it look realistic?

0:18:240:18:27

Ah! I love the smell of the sea.
