-CHUCKLING

-Oh, hello! Great to see you.

0:00:430:00:45

I'm having a rummage in the Doodle Drawers.

0:00:450:00:49

I'm looking for...

0:00:490:00:50

some...aha! ..wool! Here it is.

0:00:500:00:54

Now, it's my auntie Mildred Maker's birthday,

0:00:540:00:58

so I'm going to knit her a scarf. She'd really like that, yeah.

0:00:580:01:02

HE CHUCKLES

0:01:020:01:04

BAA!

0:01:050:01:06

I'm sure the end's not far away.

0:01:060:01:09

BAA!

0:01:100:01:11

Oh, right. I'll just give it a little pull.

0:01:110:01:16

Oh! At last!

0:01:270:01:29

-I've found the end of the wool. Ha!

-BAA!

0:01:290:01:32

Oh. But I might be a bit tangled up.

0:01:320:01:36

HE CHUCKLES

0:01:360:01:37

Never mind though,

0:01:370:01:39

this has given me a great idea!

0:01:390:01:42

DING!

0:01:420:01:43

Let's try something!

0:01:430:01:44

Try making a wonderful, woolly, winding picture.

0:01:450:01:49

First, we need to tidy up...

0:01:490:01:51

Whoo! Ha-ha-ha!

0:01:530:01:55

Let's make it! We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers.

0:01:550:01:59

Some cotton reels.

0:02:000:02:03

-Some coloured wool...

-BAA!

0:02:060:02:09

..some gloopy PVA glue...

0:02:120:02:15

..and some card.

0:02:170:02:20

Whoa! Look at this wonderful,

0:02:210:02:24

woolly, winding picture. To make one of your very own,

0:02:240:02:28

you need some coloured card. And you also need some cotton reels.

0:02:280:02:34

You can use as many as you like,

0:02:340:02:37

but it looks really good if you use at least six.

0:02:370:02:41

Place your cotton reels around the card,

0:02:410:02:44

and make sure they're spaced out, like this.

0:02:440:02:47

When you're happy with the position of your reels,

0:02:470:02:51

stick them down with gloopy glue.

0:02:510:02:53

When the reels have dried firmly in place,

0:02:590:03:02

attach a piece of thin wool to one of the reels with a knot,

0:03:020:03:07

like this. This can be a bit tricky,

0:03:070:03:10

so you might want to ask an adult to help you.

0:03:100:03:14

Now we're going to start winding the wool around

0:03:160:03:21

all of the cotton reels.

0:03:210:03:22

Just wrap it around each one in a loop,

0:03:220:03:25

then move on to the next one and do the same.

0:03:250:03:28

Keep going until you've gone round each reel, and you're at the start.

0:03:280:03:33

Tie another knot,

0:03:330:03:34

and then snip off any extra bits of wool that you don't need.

0:03:340:03:38

But be careful, because scissors are sharp.

0:03:380:03:41

-Oooh!

-SNARLING

0:03:410:03:43

Do exactly the same, but with a different coloured wool.

0:03:460:03:50

I think blue will look good.

0:03:500:03:52

This time, we're going to start from a different reel.

0:03:520:03:56

Let's wrap it round, and tie a knot again.

0:03:560:04:00

There. Nice and secure.

0:04:030:04:06

We'll wind around all the reels again,

0:04:060:04:08

but wrap your wool around in a different order.

0:04:080:04:12

Ensure you go round them all.

0:04:120:04:14

And remember to finish up...

0:04:140:04:16

at the reel you started with. Tie a knot,

0:04:160:04:20

and snip off any extra bits.

0:04:200:04:22

It's looking good! You can make it look even better

0:04:280:04:32

by doing the same, using different colours,

0:04:320:04:35

and winding around in different ways.

0:04:350:04:38

What a great effect! It's a wonderful, woolly, winding picture.

0:04:380:04:43

There are lots of colours and designs you can try.

0:04:430:04:47

This one is made by sticking the cotton reels in a circle shape.

0:04:470:04:52

And this big one is made by using lots of cotton reels,

0:04:540:04:57

and lots of different coloured wool.

0:04:570:05:00

And talking of lots and lots of wool,

0:05:000:05:03

where did I put all that wool from earlier?

0:05:030:05:06

Oh! Ha-ha! There it is!

0:05:060:05:08

-BAA!

-Ha-ha!

0:05:090:05:11

-SNORING

-Oh, what's that noise? It's a...

0:05:110:05:14

Ah, it's coming from the shelves. Come on!

0:05:140:05:17

It's the Shapes. They're asleep again.

0:05:180:05:22

Let's wake them up!

0:05:220:05:23

SNUFFLING

0:05:260:05:28

Oh, oh.

0:05:280:05:30

CIRCLE GIGGLES

0:05:300:05:32

THEY ALL SHOUT

0:05:320:05:34

ALL: Whee!

0:05:360:05:38

# I am a shape

0:05:440:05:45

# La, la, la, la

0:05:450:05:46

# I am a shape

0:05:480:05:50

# La, la, la, la

0:05:500:05:51

# I am a circle

0:05:530:05:55

# I am a triangle

0:05:580:06:00

# I am a square

0:06:030:06:05

# I am a rectangle

0:06:080:06:10

# I am a shape

0:06:130:06:14

# I am a triangle. #

0:06:160:06:19

What are the triangles making today?

0:06:210:06:24

Can you guess?

0:06:280:06:30

It's a cockerel!

0:06:330:06:34

Well done, triangle. Time to get back on the shelf!

0:06:340:06:38

ALL: Whee!

0:06:380:06:40

LAUGHTER

0:06:400:06:42

ALL: Oh, oh, oh.

0:06:420:06:44

SNORING

0:06:490:06:50

Ho-ho, now, that was a puzzling puzzle, wasn't it?

0:06:500:06:54

CLATTERING

0:06:540:06:55

Tocky here! Minute Make Time!

0:06:550:06:58

Oh, great! It's Minute Make Time!

0:06:580:07:01

Here's what we're going to make.

0:07:040:07:06

A clacker drum!

0:07:060:07:09

It's great fun, look!

0:07:090:07:11

Hee-hee! And to make one, you will need...

0:07:130:07:16

some sticky tape, a pencil, an empty cheese box -

0:07:160:07:21

you need one with a lid, like that.

0:07:210:07:23

A piece of string - that's got to be twice the length of your cheese box.

0:07:230:07:28

You need a ball of sticky tack,

0:07:280:07:32

and two large beads.

0:07:320:07:34

Do you think it's possible to make this in just one minute?

0:07:340:07:38

-No way!

-I can't believe you're saying that, Tocky.

0:07:380:07:42

I think I can do it! Although I will have to move very quickly.

0:07:420:07:46

Don't worry though, I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:07:460:07:50

-Let's make it in a minute!

-Start the clock!

0:07:500:07:54

Let's go! Let's get our box, and a pencil,

0:07:540:07:57

and, very carefully, push to make a hole with the pencil,

0:07:570:08:01

then get our ball of tack, squidge it in place,

0:08:010:08:04

so the pencil stays firm. Put the lid back on like that.

0:08:040:08:08

Lay our string

0:08:080:08:09

on top. We can stick that in position with some tape,

0:08:090:08:14

right across the middle, there.

0:08:140:08:16

Let's get one of our beads,

0:08:160:08:18

and feed it onto one end, there we go.

0:08:180:08:21

Then tie a knot...there we are.

0:08:210:08:26

Let's do the same on the other side.

0:08:260:08:29

There's the other bead. Like this.

0:08:290:08:31

Let's feed it on here.

0:08:310:08:33

Through it goes, like that. Go on, through you go!

0:08:330:08:38

There we are.

0:08:380:08:39

Let's tie a knot on this end as well.

0:08:390:08:42

And once I've done that...

0:08:420:08:43

Get a move on!

0:08:430:08:46

I'm going as fast as I can, Tocky!

0:08:460:08:48

There's the other knot, and I have done it!

0:08:480:08:51

Woo!

0:08:510:08:53

Only just!

0:08:530:08:55

Yes, and if you've got more than a minute, you can decorate your drum!

0:08:550:09:00

Look at this one here. It's got a circle of paper on each side.

0:09:000:09:05

In fact, you can make all sorts of clacker drums in the same way.

0:09:050:09:09

Oooh!

0:09:090:09:10

This one's painted with a swirly pattern.

0:09:120:09:15

Ho-ho!

0:09:150:09:18

Look at this brightly-coloured clacker drum with lots of beads!

0:09:180:09:22

Clacker drums made in a minute! Why don't you make one?

0:09:220:09:26

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:09:260:09:29

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:09:290:09:32

Push a hole in the side of a cheese box with a pencil,

0:09:340:09:38

and hold it steady with sticky tack.

0:09:380:09:41

Put the lid back on,

0:09:410:09:42

and tape the string across the middle.

0:09:420:09:45

Tie a bead to both ends of the string to finish your drum!

0:09:450:09:49

Why don't you try and make it in a minute? Ha-ha!

0:09:530:09:57

ALL: Hello, Mister Maker!

0:09:570:10:00

ALL: Guess what we're making today?

0:10:000:10:03

I don't know. Why don't you tell us?

0:10:030:10:06

CHILDREN LAUGH

0:10:060:10:08

I'm dark blue.

0:10:120:10:14

I'm grey.

0:10:150:10:17

I am green.

0:10:260:10:27

I am brown.

0:10:330:10:35

I am black.

0:10:400:10:41

ALL: It's a koala bear!

0:10:490:10:52

Well done, everyone! See you soon!

0:10:520:10:54

Now it's time to frame it!

0:10:540:10:56

Frame it!

0:10:570:10:59

Frame it!

0:11:000:11:01

Now, take a look at this.

0:11:030:11:05

What a brilliant picture, made by drawing in paint on shiny paper.

0:11:070:11:12

It's very easy to do, and looks so good, you'll be able to frame it.

0:11:120:11:16

You will need some card, shiny silver paper,

0:11:160:11:20

a pencil with a rubber at the end, glue, paint, and a paintbrush.

0:11:200:11:24

First, stick a piece of shiny paper to some card.

0:11:250:11:28

Then cover the shiny paper in dark-coloured paint.

0:11:280:11:33

Now, draw in the wet paint using the rubber at the end of the pencil,

0:11:360:11:41

making sure you press down firmly.

0:11:410:11:43

You can draw whatever you like, but this is going to be a truck.

0:11:430:11:48

Start off at the front of the truck, add a window,

0:11:480:11:52

and a wheel, then at the back of the truck,

0:11:520:11:56

add two more wheels.

0:11:560:11:58

Add some details...

0:12:010:12:04

and go over all the lines again.

0:12:040:12:07

And when it's dry, you can see the shiny paper through the paint!

0:12:090:12:13

What a brilliant picture! Why don't you have a go?

0:12:130:12:17

And then...frame it!

0:12:170:12:19

ENGINE STARTS

0:12:200:12:22

-Isn't that effective?

-HORN BLARES

0:12:220:12:25

And now for a messy picture! Watch this.

0:12:260:12:29

What do you think it is?

0:12:350:12:38

It's a squirrel!

0:12:430:12:44

Oh, ho-ho!

0:12:440:12:46

Fantastic! Now, what's happening here?

0:12:460:12:51

HE LAUGHS

0:12:520:12:54

Don't mind me, I'm just practising my silly faces! Look at this.

0:12:540:12:59

HE LAUGHS

0:13:010:13:02

Oh, that's a really good one. Can you make silly faces? Go on.

0:13:020:13:07

Pull a funny face - the sillier the better. Go on.

0:13:070:13:10

Brilliant! Ha-ha! That was a very funny face.

0:13:100:13:13

And all of our funny, silly faces have given me a great idea.

0:13:130:13:18

-DING!

-Let's make something!

0:13:180:13:21

Make a funny face of your own, like this great gargoyle

0:13:210:13:25

that you can stick on your wall or door.

0:13:250:13:27

Let's make it! We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers.

0:13:270:13:32

A paper plate and an old newspaper.

0:13:340:13:38

Some scraps of cardboard, some gloopy PVA glue,

0:13:400:13:44

and some sticky tape.

0:13:440:13:46

And some paint.

0:13:480:13:50

Oh-ho!

0:13:510:13:52

Now, we also need some play sand, which you can find in a toyshop.

0:13:520:13:58

I'll be back in a tick.

0:13:580:13:59

CAR ENGINE, BRAKES SCREECH

0:14:010:14:03

I've got it!

0:14:030:14:04

Here it is, our play sand.

0:14:060:14:08

Now, take a look

0:14:100:14:11

at this gargoyle. A gargoyle is a funny creature

0:14:110:14:15

made out of stone,

0:14:150:14:17

that you might find on the front of an old building.

0:14:170:14:21

To make one, you need to start with its mouth, and for that,

0:14:210:14:25

we need a sheet of newspaper,

0:14:250:14:28

and we're going to roll it up like this.

0:14:280:14:31

Then we're going to give it a twist,

0:14:310:14:34

and stick it together with tape.

0:14:340:14:36

Now, we're going to bend it

0:14:420:14:44

around into a loop shape, and stick this together with more tape.

0:14:440:14:50

And then give it a squeeze...

0:14:540:14:56

into a mouth shape.

0:14:560:14:58

We need to bring in

0:14:590:15:01

our paper plate, and turn it

0:15:010:15:04

upside down -

0:15:040:15:06

this will be the face.

0:15:060:15:08

Let's put on our mouth, and stick it into position.

0:15:080:15:12

Great!

0:15:180:15:19

Now, to make a nose, we get another piece of newspaper,

0:15:190:15:24

and scrunch it up into a sort of pear shape.

0:15:240:15:28

Tape it together...

0:15:360:15:38

and stick it in the middle of the face!

0:15:380:15:40

Now we can roll up two small balls of newspaper for nostrils.

0:15:430:15:48

Then we can tape them either side of the nose.

0:15:500:15:53

Now, for the eyes,

0:15:560:15:58

use half a sheet of paper to make thinner twists -

0:15:580:16:02

let's roll it up.

0:16:020:16:03

And again, we can use some sticky tape

0:16:030:16:06

to hold it in position.

0:16:060:16:07

We can loop it round...

0:16:140:16:16

You can always tear off a bit

0:16:190:16:21

of the loop to make your eyes smaller.

0:16:210:16:24

Then stick it together.

0:16:240:16:26

Now, I'm going to put it...

0:16:260:16:29

..here, next to the nose.

0:16:320:16:36

We need a pupil in the middle. So...

0:16:360:16:38

we need to scrunch up a ball

0:16:380:16:40

from a smaller piece of newspaper,

0:16:400:16:43

and that goes in the middle of the eye shape.

0:16:430:16:46

Then do the same on the other side.

0:16:460:16:48

He looks very silly, doesn't he?

0:16:490:16:52

Now we can add some extra detail

0:16:520:16:54

by cutting out some cardboard squares for gargoyle teeth,

0:16:540:16:59

maybe some cardboard triangles for ears.

0:16:590:17:03

Be careful though - scissors are sharp!

0:17:030:17:06

Oh-ho!

0:17:060:17:08

Here are my scissors.

0:17:080:17:10

Here's my cardboard. Start with the teeth.

0:17:100:17:13

Now, cutting cardboard

0:17:130:17:15

can be a bit fiddly,

0:17:150:17:17

so it might be a good idea to ask an adult to help you. Then,

0:17:170:17:22

you can place them onto your gargoyle face,

0:17:220:17:25

and do the same with two cardboard ears,

0:17:250:17:28

and stick it all down... Great!

0:17:280:17:31

Now comes the messy bit.

0:17:310:17:33

Put your gargoyle on an old tray.

There we go.

0:17:380:17:39

We're going to cover the whole thing in a layer of gloopy glue.

0:17:390:17:43

OK. Now, we need to be quick about this,

0:17:480:17:51

we don't want the glue to dry.

0:17:510:17:53

Sprinkle play sand all over it.

0:17:530:17:56

Then, shake off the extra sand...

0:17:590:18:02

and leave it to dry. Now...

0:18:020:18:04

you can paint it a nice grey colour,

0:18:040:18:07

add some white highlights and use black paint for the darker details.

0:18:070:18:12

And there it is,

0:18:170:18:19

your very own funny gargoyle!

0:18:190:18:22

And you can make lots of different gargoyle faces.

0:18:220:18:25

This one's got big ears and extra green paint,

0:18:250:18:29

to look like there's moss growing on it. Or how about

0:18:290:18:33

doing a big gargoyle with a sticking-out tongue?

0:18:330:18:36

All of them are brilliant funny faces! Ha-ha!

0:18:360:18:40

Excuse me... Well, I think you've got a very funny face too!

0:18:400:18:45

-Oh, thank you very much. You're too kind.

-Time to go!

0:18:450:18:49

Oh! That's it for now. MY making time's over,

0:18:490:18:52

but YOURS is just beginning. See you soon.

0:18:520:18:55

It's time to put all this stuff back in its box!
