HORN BEEPS

0:00:450:00:47

Hello, nice to see you again.

0:00:470:00:50

I've just come out for a drive.

0:00:500:00:52

There's always so much to see and do

0:00:520:00:54

when I'm out and about in the Makermobile.

0:00:540:00:57

Tocky here.

0:00:570:00:59

Mini Maker message.

0:00:590:01:01

Hello, I'm Lucy.

0:01:010:01:03

Hello, Lucy. Can I help you today?

0:01:030:01:05

-Yes, please, Mister Maker.

-I'll be right with you.

0:01:050:01:08

This must be the place.

0:01:250:01:28

Hello, Lucy. How can I help you today?

0:01:300:01:34

What can we do with these old lids?

0:01:340:01:36

Let's have a look. There's quite a collection.

0:01:360:01:39

LIDS RATTLE

0:01:390:01:41

Oh. Ha ha.

0:01:410:01:43

MUSIC PLAYS

0:01:430:01:46

Oh, that was fun.

0:01:490:01:51

Let's have a look.

0:01:510:01:53

Well,

0:01:530:01:55

there are lots of different sizes,

0:01:550:01:58

and all the lids are circle shapes.

0:01:580:02:01

I've just had a great idea!

0:02:010:02:04

Let's try something.

0:02:040:02:06

Try printing yourself a crazy pattern

0:02:060:02:09

using circle-shaped lids of different sizes.

0:02:090:02:12

It's very colourful and simple to do.

0:02:120:02:15

BOTH: Let's make it!

0:02:150:02:17

But first, we need somewhere to make it.

0:02:170:02:20

Ooh!

0:02:220:02:23

We'll also need some things from the Doodle Drawers. I'll be back soon.

0:02:230:02:28

A big piece of coloured paper.

0:02:320:02:35

We'll also need some paper plates. I wonder if Scraps has got any.

0:02:380:02:42

HE BEEPS HORN

0:02:420:02:44

Hello.

0:02:440:02:46

Scraps? Oh, Scraps.

0:02:460:02:49

We need some paper plates. Can you help?

0:02:490:02:52

Oh, great paper-plate balancing, Scraps. You should be in the circus.

0:02:540:02:59

There you go. Thank you very much.

0:02:590:03:01

This is perfect.

0:03:010:03:03

And we'll also need lots of brightly coloured poster paint.

0:03:080:03:12

So, Lucy, this is what we're going to make today.

0:03:130:03:16

It's a circle-print picture. Look at that. Very colourful.

0:03:160:03:21

-What do you think about that, Lucy?

-Good.

0:03:210:03:24

-Brilliant. Are you ready?

-Yes.

-Great.

0:03:240:03:27

Are you ready? Brilliant.

0:03:270:03:29

Let's get making.

0:03:290:03:30

The best thing about this is that you can make the pattern

0:03:300:03:33

whatever you want it to be.

0:03:330:03:35

Choose as many colours of paint as you like

0:03:350:03:38

and squeeze a blob of each one out onto a different paper plate.

0:03:380:03:42

Let's get some paper plates out,

0:03:420:03:44

and can you do a big squirt of red paint, please?

0:03:440:03:48

Brilliant. Well done.

0:03:480:03:52

Now let's have purple for this one.

0:03:520:03:56

Great. And last but not least, green.

0:03:580:04:01

Well done, Lucy. Our paint is ready,

0:04:050:04:09

so we can bring in our background paper.

0:04:090:04:12

Now we can print with our circle-shaped lids.

0:04:120:04:15

So, one by one, let's choose a lid.

0:04:150:04:18

All we do is push it into the paint like that.

0:04:180:04:22

Then we can print it onto our paper.

0:04:220:04:26

What shape is that, Lucy?

0:04:260:04:28

Circle.

0:04:280:04:29

A circle. That's right. It's easy.

0:04:290:04:31

Let's choose another lid.

0:04:310:04:34

Which one should we go for?

0:04:340:04:35

-That one.

-Excellent choice.

0:04:350:04:38

Don't forget, you can use any part of the lid to print with,

0:04:380:04:41

even the rim.

0:04:410:04:43

-What colour paint should we use, Lucy?

-Red.

0:04:430:04:46

Why don't you

0:04:460:04:47

dip that in the red paint?

0:04:470:04:50

Wonderful. Now keep printing

0:04:550:04:57

with as many different-sized lids as you like

0:04:570:05:00

to build up your crazy pattern.

0:05:000:05:02

Fantastic. We're all finished. What do you think, Lucy?

0:05:120:05:15

Great.

0:05:150:05:17

I think it's great as well. All we need to do now is leave it to dry.

0:05:170:05:22

That was so much fun,

0:05:220:05:23

we should have another go at circle printing, don't you?

0:05:230:05:26

-Yes.

-This time, we'll go even bigger!

0:05:260:05:31

We'll need a big piece of paper,

0:05:310:05:34

lots of paint,

0:05:340:05:37

and some big circles and lids. Let's get painting.

0:05:370:05:40

Whoa, hold your horses!

0:05:400:05:43

This could get messy.

0:05:430:05:44

It's a good idea to put on some old clothes or an apron.

0:05:440:05:48

Let's go, Lucy.

0:05:480:05:49

That's much better. Let's get started.

0:05:490:05:54

What should we go for first? Yellow.

0:05:540:05:58

BOTH: We made it!

0:06:090:06:11

And now, Lucy, your home is where the ART is.

0:06:110:06:14

Painty high-five. Ha ha.

0:06:140:06:17

What a fantastic lid picture! Well done, Lucy. Bye!

0:06:170:06:22

It's brilliant being out in the Makermobile.

0:06:230:06:26

There's so much to see and do...

0:06:260:06:29

GIGGLING

0:06:290:06:32

What's that noise?

0:06:320:06:34

Who could it be?

0:06:340:06:37

# I am a shape

0:06:440:06:46

# I am a shape

0:06:480:06:50

# I am a circle

0:06:540:06:56

# I am a triangle

0:06:580:07:01

# I am a square

0:07:030:07:06

# I am a rectangle

0:07:080:07:11

# I am a shape

0:07:160:07:19

# I am a shape

0:07:210:07:24

# I am a shape

0:07:270:07:29

# I am a shape

0:07:320:07:34

# I am a square. #

0:07:400:07:43

What are the squares making today?

0:07:450:07:47

Can you guess?

0:07:490:07:51

Any ideas yet?

0:07:530:07:56

It's a pair of sunglasses.

0:07:580:08:02

Well done, Shapes.

0:08:020:08:04

It's time to get back in the Doodle Drawers.

0:08:040:08:07

I love driving the Makermobile.

0:08:140:08:16

There are so many interesting things to see.

0:08:160:08:19

Minute-make time!

0:08:190:08:22

Hey, it's minute-make time.

0:08:220:08:25

I'm on my way.

0:08:250:08:27

We've arrived.

0:08:380:08:41

It's minute-make time, everyone!

0:08:460:08:48

CHEERING

0:08:480:08:50

Here's what we're going to make today.

0:08:500:08:53

A brilliant crab-grab.

0:08:530:08:55

He's very useful cos he can look after lots of things

0:08:550:08:59

in his spoon claws.

0:08:590:09:01

Unlike a real crab, he doesn't give you a nasty nip.

0:09:010:09:04

To make one of these, you will need...

0:09:040:09:07

a glue stick, some scissors,

0:09:070:09:10

some pipe cleaners, plastic spoons.

0:09:100:09:13

You'll also need some air-drying clay and some googly eyes.

0:09:130:09:18

You can find these in an arts and crafts shop.

0:09:180:09:20

I'll be back very soon.

0:09:200:09:22

I've got them.

0:09:290:09:30

Right, here's our air-drying clay

0:09:300:09:35

and our googly eyes.

0:09:350:09:37

Do you think it's possible to make this crab-grab

0:09:370:09:40

in just one minute?

0:09:400:09:43

ALL: No way!

0:09:430:09:44

Ooh! Well, I think I can.

0:09:440:09:46

I'll have to be quick, but don't worry,

0:09:460:09:49

I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:09:490:09:51

-Are you ready?

-Yes!

0:09:510:09:54

Are you ready?

0:09:540:09:56

Good, let's make it in a minute!

0:09:560:09:58

Three, two, one...

0:09:580:10:00

Start the clock.

0:10:000:10:02

First, we'll get our pipe cleaners

0:10:020:10:04

and carefully cut them in half.

0:10:040:10:06

-Careful with scissors because they're...

-Sharp!

0:10:060:10:09

Yes. Cut these pieces in half again,

0:10:090:10:13

so we get eight pieces. Move those to the side.

0:10:130:10:16

Squidge the clay into a body shape

0:10:160:10:19

and then start putting these pieces in. Three in this side,

0:10:190:10:23

these are the legs. Three in the other side as well.

0:10:230:10:28

There we go.

0:10:280:10:31

On these pieces, we'll put our googly eyes.

0:10:310:10:35

Let's get those bits ready. Let's get our eyes and glue.

0:10:350:10:39

Here we go.

0:10:390:10:41

Get some glue on the googly eyes. There's one.

0:10:410:10:45

And another one, here...

0:10:450:10:47

like that. Bit of glue on there.

0:10:470:10:50

Let's stick these pieces in.

0:10:500:10:53

There's one there and one there.

0:10:530:10:55

We need to make a mouth in the front.

0:10:550:10:58

If I put my spoons in, I have made a crab-grab!

0:10:580:11:03

I've done it!

0:11:030:11:05

-Yes!

-Phew, just in time.

0:11:050:11:09

If you've got more than a minute, you can paint it

0:11:090:11:12

and use it to grab anything.

0:11:120:11:14

Ah, it's a picture of my cousin Claude, the famous chef.

0:11:150:11:19

It's not just crabs that are good for grabbing.

0:11:190:11:22

We've got some other ideas as well.

0:11:220:11:24

It's a beautiful black and yellow buzzy bee with spoon wings,

0:11:260:11:30

complete with a photo of William Maker, the wizard.

0:11:300:11:33

It's a green dragonfly, with extra spoon wings to hold more pictures.

0:11:350:11:39

And here's my little cousin, Maxwell Maker.

0:11:390:11:43

Crab-grabs made in a minute. Why don't you have a go?

0:11:430:11:47

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:11:470:11:50

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:11:500:11:53

Cut two pipe cleaners into four pieces each.

0:11:530:11:57

Roll the clay into a ball

0:11:570:12:00

and push in six pipe-cleaner legs.

0:12:000:12:03

Stick googly eyes onto the other pipe-cleaner pieces

0:12:030:12:07

and push them into the clay for eyes.

0:12:070:12:11

Make a mouth,

0:12:110:12:13

push in two spoons on each side like this,

0:12:130:12:16

and that's it.

0:12:160:12:18

Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

0:12:210:12:24

-Did you enjoy that, Carol?

-Oh, yes, indeed!

0:12:240:12:27

Oh, lovely!

0:12:270:12:28

Right, got to dash, everyone.

0:12:280:12:30

Bye!

0:12:300:12:32

I wonder where we're off to next?

0:12:390:12:42

ALL: Hello, Mr Maker!

0:12:420:12:44

Oh, nice to see you.

0:12:440:12:46

Can you guess what we're making today?

0:12:460:12:49

I don't know. Let's find out.

0:12:490:12:51

I'm brown.

0:12:550:12:57

I'm light blue.

0:13:020:13:03

I am pink.

0:13:070:13:10

I am orange.

0:13:110:13:13

I am red.

0:13:150:13:17

I'm yellow.

0:13:220:13:24

I am peach.

0:13:260:13:27

ALL: It's a cup cake!

0:13:360:13:38

Well done, everyone. See you next time.

0:13:380:13:40

Now, watch this.

0:13:400:13:42

Hello, are you ready...

0:13:440:13:47

for a big surprise?

0:13:470:13:50

I'm going to surprise these mini-makers,

0:13:510:13:54

who have no idea I'm on my way.

0:13:540:13:56

Hello? Hello!

0:13:560:13:58

-Hi!

-How are you, you OK?

0:13:580:14:01

Yes!

0:14:010:14:02

It's great to meet you. Now, do you like pirates?

0:14:020:14:06

Yes!

0:14:060:14:08

Fantastic, so do I.

0:14:080:14:10

Oh... Harr-harr!

0:14:100:14:12

Pirates sailed the seven seas in search of treasure, harr-harr!

0:14:120:14:17

That's right, me hearties.

0:14:170:14:19

I, Captain Multicoloured Beard, have had a big idea.

0:14:190:14:23

Oh... Hmm!

0:14:230:14:26

I think we should make a big pirate ship.

0:14:260:14:29

-Will you help me, everybody?

-Yes!

0:14:290:14:32

Fantastic. OK, Max, Anya, Raoul, Fizza and Amandeep,

0:14:320:14:37

let's make it!

0:14:370:14:39

We're going to make a pirate ship.

0:14:390:14:41

What sort of colours shall we have on our ship?

0:14:410:14:44

-Yellow.

-Black and brown.

0:14:440:14:47

-Blue and green.

-Great idea.

0:14:470:14:49

We're going to make a pirate ship so we need to be pirates.

0:14:490:14:53

What noise does a pirate make?

0:14:530:14:55

ALL: Arrr!

0:14:550:14:57

Well done, everyone, there's some good ideas there.

0:14:570:15:00

Let's get making.

0:15:000:15:01

First we need to paint our ship a woody brown colour.

0:15:030:15:07

We're going to make the windows on our pirate ship.

0:15:070:15:10

-What are they called?

-Portholes.

0:15:100:15:13

That's right. So blow up these rubber rings, please.

0:15:130:15:17

And no giggling!

0:15:170:15:18

THEY GIGGLE

0:15:180:15:21

We'll need chain for our anchor.

0:15:260:15:28

We're going to paint our sea. what colour should we paint it?

0:15:300:15:33

-Blue.

-Good idea. Get painting, then.

0:15:330:15:36

We're having great fun making our big pirate ship.

0:15:430:15:46

Why don't you have a go at making your own small one at home?

0:15:460:15:50

Try making this fantastic paper plate pirate ship.

0:15:510:15:55

Make it, play with it, have fun with it.

0:15:550:15:58

To make one, you will need some paper bowls,

0:15:580:16:02

pencils, modelling clay, paint and a paintbrush,

0:16:020:16:06

scissors, a glue stick, a plastic lid,

0:16:060:16:11

a pen and some round stickers.

0:16:110:16:14

Take a blue paper bowl like this one,

0:16:150:16:18

and don't worry if you can't find a blue one

0:16:180:16:20

because you can always paint it.

0:16:200:16:22

Turn over the bowl and then take a piece of modelling clay.

0:16:220:16:26

Put it underneath the bowl and make a hole with a sharp pencil.

0:16:260:16:30

If you find this tricky, you can always get an adult to help.

0:16:320:16:35

Now use the hole to carefully cut a slit in the bowl, like this.

0:16:350:16:40

Next, take another paper bowl, cut in half

0:16:420:16:45

and glue around the curved edges.

0:16:450:16:48

Press the two halves together to make a boat shape.

0:16:500:16:54

And then push it into the slit.

0:16:570:17:00

Next, poke two pencils through the boat at each end.

0:17:020:17:06

Then paint the boat a lovely woody brown colour.

0:17:080:17:11

Now push some modelling clay onto the end of one of the pencils

0:17:140:17:18

and stick a plastic lid on top.

0:17:180:17:20

Then, on the other pencil, you can stick a paper flag.

0:17:250:17:28

You can draw a pirate skull and crossbones, like this,

0:17:280:17:31

or you can draw any flag you want.

0:17:310:17:34

Add some stickers for portholes.

0:17:340:17:37

Then put three more stickers on top.

0:17:370:17:40

And now your pirate ship is shipshape

0:17:410:17:43

and ready to play with. Ship ahoy, harr-harr!

0:17:430:17:48

What a perfect way to make a pirate ship.

0:17:500:17:52
