Mr Bloom here. Do you know what I like to do when I'm not gardening?

and find out what you Tiddlers are up to. You do all sorts.

The Cone is a big chimney.

We like to spot it from the canal.

We come here all the time.

In the Cone, you can watch people making things out of glass.

A long time ago, our grandads used to be glass-makers.

We're going to make something very special.

And we'd love for you to help us.

So I've found you and...

-Oooh, who are you here with today?

So, we're making glass today.

But, Tiddlers, this doesn't look like glass to me.

It looks a bit like gloopy honey.

It's so hot that you can do it in different shapes.

So how are you going to make it into shapes if it's really hot?

-People like Charlotte blow it into different shapes.

-You blow it?

-You blow it like a balloon?

-Yeah.

-It looks like great fun, this.

Do you reckon, if I ask Charlotte nicely, she'll let me have a go?

-Yes!

-Shall I ask her?

-Charlotte, can I have a go at blowing some glass?

-Absolutely.

But you'll have to wear safety glasses.

So, what have you drawn here, Freya?

It's a plan for the big picture that we're going to make.

Oooh, sounds good to me. Tell me about it.

This is a picture of the Cone. The canal's there.

And the sun's up there in the sky.

Victoria, what are we making first?

We're going to make the water first, Mr Bloom.

What will we make the water out of?

We're going to make the water out of glass.

Hey, that's a good idea.

It's nice and see-through, just like water. Righty-ho, then.

-Shall I hang on to this picture?

-You can keep it in your log book.

Freya, what are we going to do now?

We're going to make shapes in the sand with our fingers.

With our fingers? Brilliant!

-OK. What shapes are they going to be?

-Wavy shapes.

Ah, like the water in the canal.

-Is that going to be the water in your picture?

-Yeah.

Hey, that's a good job, that.

Nice and wavy.

What are you drawing, Alfie?

A big, massive, super wave.

I wouldn't want to meet that wave on a canal.

Whoa...!

That's awesome.

These waves are looking very pretty.

But I'm confused, Tiddlers.

I thought we were making the picture out of glass, not out of sand.

We're going to pour glass into the sand.

-Is that right, Charlotte?

-Yes. We pour glass into the shapes.

-It's very hot, so only grown-ups can do it.

-Very good.

So, let's look at your plan here.

What are we going to be working on next, Victoria?

We're going to do the sunbeams next.

Ah, the sun, yeah!

There's the sun up in the corner. Right, then, you lead on.

Are you coming?

Now, Charlotte adds the runny glass to our sand shapes.

Once they've cooled down, we can start the Tiddlers' big picture.

-Alfie, who's helping us with the next part of our picture?

-Sarah.

-Hello, Sarah.

-Hello, Mr Bloom.

So, we were hoping we can make some sunbeams.

-Can you help us with that?

-Sure. No problem.

So, today, children, we're going to use

some very smooth little pieces of glass

to sprinkle over these long pieces of glass.

It's all very smooth and it's been made safe for children to use.

Let's get sprinkling.

-That's it.

-Wow, good lad.

-How does that feel in your fingers, Hannah?

-It feels smooth.

Mr Bloom, do you want to keep some of these for your log book?

Hey, that's a great idea, Victoria.

You put them there and I'll put these in my log book later on.

-I think our sunbeams are...

You're right.

So, what's next, Sarah?

I'm going to put these sunbeams into a hot oven called a kiln.

The little pieces of glass

will melt onto the big piece of glass underneath.

Sarah, we'll leave that with you.

But those sunbeams are looking brilliant.

DING-DING

Oh, it's my Route Finder.

Here, I think it wants to show us something.

Glass can come in all different colours.

These windows are lovely.

Look at the pictures made out of glass.

These buildings are covered in glass windows. They're tall and shiny.

Inside glass buildings called greenhouses it can get really warm.

Perfect for growing plants.

There we go.

-We're learning lots of interesting things today, aren't we?

-Yeah.

Hee-hee.

-So, Alfie, what have you got here?

-It's clay.

Clay, is it?

So what are... Oh, are we going to be building the Cone out of clay?

Yeah. We're going to make lots of little bricks to make the Cone.

Firstly, we've got to flatten the clay.

Hey, nice work, Alfie. You're rolling that out nicely.

So now, we're going to have a blunt pencil each.

-That means it's not sharp.

-That's very good. Yes.

It's a blunt pencil for you to do the markings with.

All these bricks will come together to make our Cone.

What we need to do next is

we need to let them dry

and then cook them until they're very hard and shiny.

And then they can go up on the wall.

So, whilst Sarah finishes off with those bricks,

I think the sunbeams and the water might be ready.

-So, shall we start our big picture?

-Yeah!

You got it. Let's go!

We finished all the pieces for the Tiddlers' big picture.

And it'll look brilliant on the wall here, right by the canal.

So, Tiddlers, this is the first piece.

And this is the canal water.

You remember the wavy bits you did? There we go.

-Go on, Tiddlers, push it.

-Urrr...!

Good pushing.

There we have it, Tiddlers, the first part of our big picture.

Hip-hip hooray!

It's like icing a cake!

And look at the sunbeams we made around the sunshine.

What have we got here, Victoria?

We've got one of the bricks we made of the Cone.

OK, shall we glue it on?

Very good.

-That's it. Lovely.

-Do you want to squish them on the wall?

-That's right.

-There we go. Look at that.

And here we have the finishing touch.

There we go, Tiddlers. You've got a Cone of your very own.

But, more than that, it's a Cone everyone can enjoy.

-What do you reckon, Victoria?

-It looks brilliant.

-And what do you reckon, Freya?

-It's just like my picture, but bigger.

Hey, I think you're right. Cos...here's your picture.

Now look at it up on the wall. It looks great.

We've got a brick left over from the picture.

-You can have it, if you want.

In my log book, that's right. Here we go.

So, I put that next to the colourful yellow pebbles.
