I stayed up far too late last night reading my gardening books.

I'll just have a...a bit of a yawn and a stretch.

-MR BLOOM YAWNS

Did you know when seeds wake up they like to yawn and stretch too?

Look. These seeds are actually asleep and when they wake up,

their shoots have a big stretch up

and their roots have a big stretch down.

Hang on a moment.

-Look!

These beans just woke up. Can you see what they're doing?

-Yawning.

-Yeah! Their shoots are shooing upwards

and their roots are stretching down.

Their shoots are bursting out the skin. They've gone, "Whop!"

They're bursting, aren't they?

-Shall we pretend to be seeds?

-Yeah!

Come on.

Our shoots have a big stretch up.

Can you stretch up?

That's it - both hands.

And our roots have a big stretch down.

Can you touch your toes?

Very good!

But I wonder how we could wake our seeds up?

-TOOT-TOOT!

It sounds like Compo has an idea. Shall we go and see? Come on!

Right, tiddlers.

Let's put these beans down there

and then I'll see what Compo's got for us to wake them up.

Excuse me, Compo.

Have you got anything to help us wake these seeds up?

GURGLE! CLUNK!

-Who knows what this is?

-Spade.

-A trowel.

That's right, Katarina - a trowel. You use it for digging in the soil.

-Are you going to dig in this?

-Of course!

That's a brilliant idea! What we need to do

is plant these seeds in soil. That'll wake them up, won't it?

-Yeah.

-Righty-oh,

let's get these seeds planted.

That's for you, Katarina. You dish out the soil.

These snoozing seeds will be wide awake in no time.

-Yeah.

-Very good.

Choose a seed. That's a nice one!

Then one more dollop of soil.

There we have it and now these seeds are tucked away

in the lovely rich soil, the seeds can wake up and stretch

and for that, I need water.

And how do they stretch?

The shoots go upwards

-and the roots go downwards.

-GURGLE!

-GURGLE! SQUELCH!

-Sounds like Compo's waking up too.

-Come on - follow me!

-Come on.
