I was thinking we could make a salad from the veggies in the nursery.

Vegetables grow in all shapes and sizes and different colours.

Namosi, can you think of anything else that'd be nice in our salad?

Look. Here are my tomato plants, with lots of tomatoes on them.

-Can you see some of these tomatoes are different?

-They're small.

-Some are small and some...

-Some are green, some are red.

We're got red ones and green ones.

Do you know why they're different colours?

When they're red, they're ripe and when they're green,

they're not ripe. If they're green,

they won't taste very nice if you eat them.

That's right. Some fruits and vegetables,

when they're growing, they're a certain colour.

When ripe, they change colour to let us know they're ready to eat.

-Do you two fancy playing the tomato game?

-BOTH: Yeah.

I'm going to pick a tomato,

and I want you to look at it and tell me if it's ripe or not ripe.

Do you get it?

-Yeah.

-All right, here we go. Watch my hands.

It's red, so it's ripe and ready to be picked.
