It's Wednesday 1st May. I'm Ricky, and here's what we've got for you

:00:06.:00:15.

this afternoon. I'm Shanaze Reid, join me later to hear why sport's so

:00:16.:00:21.

important. And the rare Fal son chicks who hatched on the ledge of a

:00:21.:00:25.

building. First to Afghanistan and a war that

:00:25.:00:28.

started before many of you were born, and which is still going on

:00:28.:00:31.

now. Three British soldiers and nine Afghans were killed, and six others

:00:31.:00:34.

wounded, when their vehicle was hit by a bomb yesterday in the dangerous

:00:34.:00:38.

area of Helmand. Their families have been told. Prime Minister David

:00:38.:00:40.

Cameron said this morning that it's important that British troops

:00:40.:00:47.

continue to help rebuild the country. We have paid a very high

:00:48.:00:50.

price for the work we are doing in Afghanistan. It is important work,

:00:50.:00:54.

because it is vital that country doesn't again become a haven for

:00:54.:00:58.

terrorists, terrorists that can threaten us here in the UK, but

:00:58.:01:01.

today our thoughts should be with the families and friends of those

:01:01.:01:06.

that have suffer suffered. Britain has been at war in

:01:07.:01:10.

Afghanistan since 2001, and in the years since then, a total of 444

:01:10.:01:13.

British servicemen and women have lost their lives. British troops are

:01:13.:01:17.

set to leave the country by the end of 2014, but as the BBC's defence

:01:17.:01:19.

correspondent Jonathan Beale told us earlier, while some places like the

:01:19.:01:22.

capital city, Kabul, are getting safer, it's not the same story in

:01:22.:01:31.

other areas like Helmand province. There are parts of Afghanistan

:01:31.:01:35.

though that are like the Wild West, where you have to be with soldiers

:01:35.:01:39.

if you want to be safe. The big question of course is what will

:01:39.:01:43.

happen when British, American soldiers leave the country? Will the

:01:44.:01:49.

gapes be able to look after -- will the Afghans will able to look after

:01:50.:01:52.

themselves. We'll have a full report on this

:01:52.:01:55.

story in our later bulletin at 6.50pm, but in the meantime if you

:01:55.:01:59.

want to read more on how the war began and why British troops are

:01:59.:02:00.

there, head to the Newsround website.

:02:00.:02:03.

Next, have your parents ever stopped you from going on the internet

:02:03.:02:06.

because they think you're online too much? If they have, you're not

:02:06.:02:09.

alone. A new survey by the website, Netmums, suggests that three

:02:10.:02:13.

quarters of parents have given their kids limits on the amount of time

:02:13.:02:16.

they spend looking at computer or tablet screens. It also found that,

:02:16.:02:19.

on average, children spend two hours a day online - that's twice as long

:02:19.:02:23.

as parents think they do! Loads of you have been in touch to

:02:23.:02:33.
:02:33.:02:46.

After last year's summer of sport, how many of you are still at it? A

:02:46.:02:48.

new scheme called the Sported Academy wants more kids from tough

:02:48.:02:52.

backgrounds to take up sports, and to stick with them. We sent Martin

:02:52.:02:55.

to to find out how Olympic BMX legend Shanaze Reade's trying to

:02:55.:03:03.

help young people to turn their lives around, using sport. We are

:03:03.:03:06.

almost nine months on from the London Olympics, how many of you

:03:06.:03:11.

guys have visited a place like this? Part of the Olympic legacy is to

:03:11.:03:16.

make sure kids from all backgrounds are able to get into sports. That's

:03:16.:03:23.

why BMX star Shanaze Reid is launching the Sported Academy.

:03:23.:03:28.

used to be really shy and didn't have much confidence. I've had

:03:28.:03:33.

problems before. Personally I think sport changed my life around.

:03:33.:03:37.

relate to the people on the programme. I came from a

:03:37.:03:41.

disadvantaged background. We didn't have a lot of money but I wanted to

:03:41.:03:47.

be top of the sport. Enough being done to get individuals involved in

:03:47.:03:51.

sport? Definitely. The legacy is starting to show. Some facilities

:03:51.:03:57.

are taking a bit of stick and not being supported in the right way.

:03:57.:04:03.

That's always going to happen. 2012 wasn't like the year I want wanted

:04:03.:04:07.

regardless of the result, getting on the train, going to that Games was

:04:07.:04:10.

something so special you would never forget as a British athlete. My

:04:10.:04:14.

sport is about the Olympics but it is also about many other things.

:04:14.:04:18.

There's the World Cups, the World Championships. I'm looking forward

:04:18.:04:23.

to being as successful as I can be in every bike race that I enter.

:04:23.:04:26.

OK last up, cute alert. Three peregrine falcon chicks have hatched

:04:26.:04:31.

on the ledge of a building belonging to Nottingham Trent University.

:04:31.:04:34.

Experts had been worried about the effect the cold weather might have

:04:34.:04:37.

on the eggs. Peregrine falcons are a rare species, but these parent birds

:04:37.:04:41.

have been laying eggs on the same ledge for the last six years, and

:04:41.:04:46.
