Hello, guys, Leah and Sonali taking care of things at Newsround today.

We know you are busy with your summer holidays but stick with us

for a few minutes and we'll give you this. The firefighters battling

to save the countryside and the chimp.

Tanks and troops have been attacking anti-government

protesters in some of the most serious violence since

demonstrations started in Syria back in March. More than 100 people

are reported to have been killed in the city of Hama. Demonstrations

have been going on for months, but it's hard to tell exactly what is

going on because foreign journalists aren't allowed in. Some

of the pictures were filmed on mobile phones by people living

there. The American President, Barack Obama, is appalled by the

violence used by the Syrian government against protesters in

countries including the UK have had an emergency meeting at the UN to

discuss what to do about it. Next, we are talking wildfires.

They are often sparked by hot dry weather. In Dorset, fire crews have

been setting them on purpose. Here is why.

This was the Dorset countryside two months ago. A massive area of heath

land home to rare plants and animals was destroyed and people

living nearby had to leave their homes.

It was so bad that everyone decided drastic action was needed. It might

seem bizarre that these guys set fire to the countryside

deliberately, but they hope this will help them understand the

nature of fire so when it does happen for real, they'll be better

prepared. Wildfires can move quickly and

without warning so an operation like this takes lots of planning.

The heath is home to lots of animals and they have to be removed

to keep them safe. We have caught quite a few common

lizards, slow worms and a female adder. We had to put in an effort

to get as many animals off the plots that are being burned as

possible. Once the animals are taken care of, paths are put in to

stop the fires from spreading. Fire crews were on stand-by in case the

flames got fout of control. We have had some really big fires and we

are aiming to improve our tactics to look at how the fire behaves,

how the flames move, how the smoke moves and how the fire spreads.

Getting water to remote areas is difficult and so the crews are also

testing new techniques. Spraying this foam on the plants stops them

from catching fire which prevents the blaze from spreading.

Although the burn lasts just a few minutes, it's given researchers

value yoobl information to work with and before we go, there's one

last job, putting the animals back with they belong -- valuable

information. It's been a great few weeks if you are an England cricket
