Happy Monday to you, Newsrounders!

0:00:010:00:02

Jenny here, live with your afternoon update.

0:00:020:00:05

Splashing the cash - find out the big news

0:00:050:00:07

as the transfer deadline looms.

0:00:070:00:10

And the caped crusading superhero in Japan whose sole aim is just to

0:00:100:00:13

make people happy.

0:00:130:00:20

Top scientists are warning that we all need to eat less red meat

0:00:210:00:23

and dairy products.

0:00:240:00:26

But this isn't just to do with our health - they're saying

0:00:260:00:28

it's to help the environment.

0:00:280:00:30

A new report is the latest to claim the amount of meat we eat

0:00:300:00:33

is speeding up climate change, as Martin's been finding out.

0:00:330:00:40

Red meat.

0:00:400:00:41

More and more people around the world are eating it, as the

0:00:410:00:44

appetite for the likes of burgers and steak, grows around the world.

0:00:440:00:47

But now scientists say we need to eat less of it,

0:00:470:00:50

cutting back to just two portions a week to help save the planet.

0:00:500:00:53

They say red meat production is speeding up climate change.

0:00:530:00:56

So when the world wants more of it, the impact

0:00:560:00:58

on the environment goes up too.

0:00:580:01:02

And here's how it happens:

0:01:020:01:03

Cows, the main source of red meat, need space to live and graze.

0:01:030:01:06

To make room, forests full of trees, that help absorb carbon dioxide,

0:01:060:01:09

are chopped down.

0:01:090:01:10

So carbon dioxide levels go up.

0:01:100:01:12

Cows also burp.

0:01:120:01:13

A lot.

0:01:130:01:14

And these burps contain methane, a gas that's even more harmful to the

0:01:140:01:17

environment than carbon dioxide.

0:01:170:01:24

As more and more people want to eat more and more meat we're seeing meat

0:01:240:01:27

production at scales that require a lot of land.

0:01:270:01:32

The problem is really the scale.

0:01:320:01:33

Every year we eat more than 65 billion animals worldwide.

0:01:330:01:38

So if we need to cut back on red meat, what's the alternative?

0:01:380:01:50

Red meat is good for you in small quanties but hey, try chicken.

0:01:500:01:54

The United Nations says that as the world's population grows, and

0:01:540:01:57

developing countries get richer, the amount of meat produced around the

0:01:570:01:59

world is going to rise by more than a half in the next forty years.

0:01:590:02:03

This latest report says if we want to help the planet, we'll all

0:02:030:02:06

need to cut back on this stuff .

0:02:060:02:12

Next up, there are just a few hours left until football's transfer

0:02:120:02:15

deadline, to add to the record-breaking amount already spent

0:02:150:02:17

by English clubs this summer. Old Trafford has given us the big news

0:02:170:02:20

of the day, with Colombian striker Rad-a-mel Falcao off to Manchester

0:02:200:02:24

United, on a season-long loan from Monaco.

0:02:240:02:26

United have the option to buy him for good at the end of the season.

0:02:260:02:30

The deadline is 11:00pm

0:02:300:02:34

tonight so check back with us in the morning,

0:02:340:02:36

to see who has ended up where!

0:02:360:02:38

It's crunch time for Andy Murray at the US Open tennis tournament.

0:02:380:02:42

He takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at 8:00pm

0:02:420:02:45

our time, tonight, for a place in the quarterfinals.

0:02:450:02:49

If he wins it'll be the first time Andy's beaten

0:02:490:02:51

a player in the World's top 10, since he won Wimbledon last year.

0:02:510:02:55

But he says his best tennis is yet to come.

0:02:550:03:00

He is an exciting player to watch.

0:03:000:03:02

Big serve.

0:03:020:03:03

He moves extremely well.

0:03:030:03:06

He is very explosive around the court

0:03:060:03:08

and can generate a lot of power.

0:03:080:03:12

In terms of how I am playing a think I am playing OK.

0:03:120:03:15

I don't think I have played my best tennis yet.

0:03:150:03:18

And I hope that is just around the corner.

0:03:180:03:22

Next up, space fans, it's fair to say that our star has

0:03:220:03:25

been pretty busy this week.

0:03:250:03:26

There have been a number of eruptions on the surface

0:03:260:03:29

of the sun in the past few days.

0:03:290:03:31

Solar flares can cause disruption to satellites,

0:03:310:03:33

power grids and even air travel.

0:03:330:03:36

But experts say these latest flares aren't aimed in Earth's direction,

0:03:360:03:40

so for now, we can just enjoy the show.

0:03:400:03:44

And it's by far the most popular page on our website right now:

0:03:440:03:47

the confirmed line-up for the new series of Strictly,

0:03:470:03:50

which starts at the weekend, and you've been telling us what you

0:03:500:03:53

think of the celebs involved.

0:03:530:03:55

Quite a few of you are excited that Pixie Lott is taking part -

0:03:550:03:58

Isobel says she's a huge fan of Pixie and thinks she'll win!

0:03:580:04:06

And last up, The Dark Knight has risen - not in Gotham,

0:04:160:04:19

but in the city of Chiba in Japan.

0:04:190:04:21

This is Chi-Batman, riding around on his three-wheeled Chi-bat-pod.

0:04:210:04:23

The masked motorcyclist gets quite an audience wherever he goes,

0:04:230:04:26

in awe of his superhero costume and crime-busting gadgets.

0:04:260:04:32

So why is the man of mystery doing this?

0:04:320:04:40

I started doing this around three years ago.

0:04:400:04:42

As to my reasons, during the great earthquake people

0:04:420:04:44

forgot how to smile.

0:04:440:04:47

I wanted to help bring the smile back.

0:04:470:04:49

That is why I started.

0:04:490:04:56

Amazing.

0:04:560:04:56

That's all from me, Newsround's back in the morning.

0:04:560:04:58

Have a great afternoon.
