Hi guys. It's 1st November. Nel and Joe here with Newsround. Keep

:00:14.:00:18.

watching for this: Pricey pets. We report on animals being abandoned

:00:18.:00:21.

because they cost too much. The race to be America's next

:00:21.:00:26.

President is back on. And we have had loads of your

:00:26.:00:29.

Hallowe'en pictures. Stay tuned to see whether you made it into our

:00:29.:00:39.
:00:39.:00:48.

First, we love our pets, but the cost of looking after them could be

:00:48.:00:52.

leading more people to abandon them. Animal charity the RSPCA say

:00:52.:00:55.

they've seen a big increase in the number of animals being handed in.

:00:55.:00:58.

They reckon the cost of keeping pets is getting too high for many

:00:58.:01:01.

families. So I've been finding out more about

:01:01.:01:06.

what the charity is calling an animal crisis.

:01:06.:01:12.

Pets in cages, it's a sight no one likes to see. According to the

:01:12.:01:16.

RSPCA it's one that's becoming more and more common in Britain today.

:01:16.:01:22.

Last year, more than 40,000 animals were handed in to the charity's

:01:22.:01:25.

rescue centres. That's almost 16,000 more abandoned pets than

:01:25.:01:31.

five years ago. On top of that, the charity says not enough people are

:01:31.:01:36.

coming forward to adopt animals, so their centres are becoming really

:01:36.:01:40.

full. These dogs are some of the lucky

:01:40.:01:45.

ones. Although they had to be rescued by the RSPCA they've now

:01:45.:01:48.

new owners and new homes. Today they're at this clinic to get

:01:48.:01:55.

treated by vets. I wanted to give another dog a chance. I didn't want

:01:55.:02:00.

a pedigree dog. He is a soft, lovely little dog. I would adopt

:02:00.:02:03.

another dog again. What should people be thinking about before

:02:03.:02:07.

they come to a centre like this and adopt an animal? They really need

:02:07.:02:10.

to think hard on a number of levels. Can they afford it, feed that dog

:02:10.:02:15.

for up to 15 years or that cat? Think really hard before taking on

:02:15.:02:20.

a pet. Have you got the time and commitment? Having a pet is sa

:02:21.:02:25.

privilege, it's not a right. how much can owning a dog cost?

:02:25.:02:31.

Over a year a tin of dog food a day comes to nearly 300. What about

:02:31.:02:36.

dried food? That's 180. Things like the vet bills, insurance,

:02:36.:02:40.

boarding kennels, buying things like leads and bedding, it could

:02:40.:02:50.
:02:50.:02:53.

come to a total of 820 a year. It's a lot of money but the RSPCA

:02:53.:02:58.

say they desperately need people to come forward. They may have to

:02:58.:03:04.

start turning animals away if the situation doesn't change soon.

:03:04.:03:07.

There are just five days to go until Americans vote on who they

:03:07.:03:10.

want to be their next President. The man who's already doing the job

:03:10.:03:14.

- Barack Obama - or Mitt Romney? This week should have been one of

:03:14.:03:17.

the fiercest of the campaign as both candidates try to convince the

:03:17.:03:20.

public to vote for them. But then this happened - Superstorm Sandy,

:03:20.:03:23.

and all campaigning was put on hold. So what difference has it made?

:03:23.:03:27.

For weeks it's been rally after rally, speech after speech, from

:03:27.:03:34.

the two men competing for America's top job.

:03:34.:03:41.

But when Sandy struck, America's East Coast came to a standstill and

:03:41.:03:46.

so did the campaigning. More than 70 people died and homes were left

:03:46.:03:48.

without electricity. President Obama was quick to respond. I want

:03:48.:03:52.

to you cut through Red Cape. I want you to cut through bureaucracy.

:03:53.:03:57.

There's no excuse for inaction. the damage became clear, he visited

:03:57.:04:02.

the worst affected areas to show his support. He wasn't campaigning

:04:02.:04:07.

but he was on TV a lot. We are here for you. We will not forget. We

:04:07.:04:11.

will follow up to make sure that you get all the help that you need.

:04:11.:04:16.

He's even had praise from the most unlikely of people, the New Jersey

:04:16.:04:20.

Governor and member of Obama's rival party, the Republicans.

:04:20.:04:23.

been a great working relationship to make sure that we are doing the

:04:23.:04:26.

jobs that people elected us to do. Eight out of ten Americans think

:04:27.:04:30.

Obama has dealt with the crisis well. Has all of this made a

:04:30.:04:34.

difference? It's an opportunity for President Obama to show his

:04:34.:04:37.

presidential leadership, to show that he belongs in the White House,

:04:37.:04:41.

that he is able to handle the challenges of being President. In

:04:41.:04:46.

that respect, it certainly is, it can be a positive for him. Mitt

:04:46.:04:49.

Romney's been trying to do his bit, too. On Tuesday, he turned a

:04:49.:04:55.

campaign event in Ohio into a food bank for victims.

:04:55.:04:58.

Campaigning is now back in full swing. Many states always vote the

:04:58.:05:02.

same way but these states in yellow are the ones which are undecided.

:05:02.:05:05.

They're the areas Obama and Romney need to win. That's why the

:05:06.:05:12.

President is heading to Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado and Mitt Romney

:05:12.:05:18.

is in shreurg -- Virginia and Florida. The race is neck and neck.

:05:18.:05:23.

Obama will be hoping the way he has dealt with Sandy has given him the

:05:23.:05:30.

boost he needs. Showbiz news.

:05:30.:05:34.

Now, we've seen celebs battle it out on the dance floor in Strictly,

:05:34.:05:37.

but how do you think they'd do on a diving board? Olympic diver Tom

:05:37.:05:40.

Daley is set to host a new TV show called Splash. Celebrity

:05:40.:05:43.

contestants will be coached by top divers, who will then have to show

:05:43.:05:46.

off their new diving skills in front of a live audience!

:05:46.:05:48.

Can they really do that?! That looks tough.

:05:48.:05:51.

Now ,safety briefings on aeroplanes. Be honest, Nel, do you really pay

:05:51.:05:53.

attention to them? Hmmmm, sometimes! Well, if you like your

:05:53.:05:59.

movies - this will make you listen. Please power off all electronic

:05:59.:06:01.

devices. Recognise these guys? The evil

:06:01.:06:04.

Sauron there with a grumpy orc and dwarf. And Gandalf the Grey makes

:06:04.:06:10.

an appearance. They're all from next month's movie The Hobbit. It's

:06:10.:06:14.

been made by a New Zealand airline all for a bit of fun but it would

:06:14.:06:18.

definitely make me pay attention! Afghanistan has undergone a lot of

:06:18.:06:21.

changes in recent years, especially when it comes to giving more rights

:06:21.:06:25.

to girls and women. But one women who was forced to

:06:25.:06:28.

leave the country when she was young has found a new way to give

:06:28.:06:35.

girls a voice, as Hayley's been finding out.

:06:35.:06:39.

Dizzee Rascal, Jay-Z, all popstars famous for rapping about their

:06:39.:06:45.

childhoods in cities they grew up And now a young woman from

:06:45.:06:51.

Afghanistan is doing the same. She has become the country's most

:06:51.:06:55.

female rapper with a song called Our Neighbours. She raps about the

:06:55.:06:59.

struggles of fleeing her country and growing up as a refugee in Iran

:06:59.:07:04.

and Pakistan. Her achievement is even more remarkable considering

:07:04.:07:07.

the Taliban who used to control the country banned music and until

:07:07.:07:12.

recently girls were stopped from going to school. TRANSLATION:

:07:12.:07:17.

I realised I could share my feelings with people by singing rap.

:07:17.:07:21.

I tell people how I was living as a refugee and I can tell sad stories

:07:21.:07:26.

in a peaceful way by rapping. I asked my father's permission before

:07:26.:07:31.

and he said yes. She's so good she's been toured by one of the top

:07:31.:07:34.

musicians in the country. Music has improved a lot in Afghanistan and

:07:34.:07:38.

this young generation has the talent. They want to tell people

:07:38.:07:42.

they're not extremists. They're not the Taliban. They want to help

:07:42.:07:48.

change this country. Although not everyone is happy

:07:48.:07:53.

about what she's doing, she hopes to use her musical success to

:07:53.:07:56.

support her family who returned to Afghanistan seven years ago without

:07:56.:08:00.

any money. Now she wants to set up the first

:08:00.:08:04.

all-girl rap band in the country and hopes her songs will inspire

:08:04.:08:13.

other Afghan girls to join her. Cool girl, isn't she? Yeah!

:08:13.:08:16.

Now was your Hallowe'en night full of tricks or treats? Loads of you

:08:16.:08:20.

have sent us pictures of your scary costumes and it looks like you had

:08:20.:08:23.

a spectacularly spooky night! Finn, Paddy and Erin look like a

:08:23.:08:25.

frightful bunch with their pumpkins!

:08:25.:08:31.

Harry's unzipped zombie face paint is truly terrifying. And eight-

:08:31.:08:41.

year-old Sanyu-Jane scared everyone at her Hallowe'en party! And Sol

:08:41.:08:44.

lost his head in all the excitement! And Ross and Joel gave

:08:44.:08:48.

their neighbours a fright! If they came to my house Wye give them
