Hi, I'm Hayley.

It's Wednesday and

this is Newsround.

Now for those of you who headed

back to school today,

strong winds may have made that

journey a little bit more eventful

than usual.

Storm Eleanor has been causing havoc

across parts of the UK.

Ricky's been taking a closer look

at the damage it's caused.

Trees down...

Streets flooded...

Mega winds.

Storm Eleanor has battered

parts of the UK and

Ireland.

Gusts of 100 mph were recorded

here at Great Dunfell in

Cumbria.

Those winds kept lots

of you awake last night.

These pictures from Anglesey

and Wales show how the

storm whipped up the waves.

While in Blackpool

in the north-west of

England, hail was causing chaos.

The storm also caused

power cuts, with

thousands of homes without

electricity overnight.

Weather-wise, it's been

an eventful start to the

year.

Storm Eleanor came just a few days

after Storm Dylan hit the UK.

The storms are given names so people

become familiar with them and

recognise the potential

danger they might cause.

Eleanor has now made its way

out to the North Sea,

leaving behind a big mess.

Now, for many, the clean-up begins.

2018 already feels like it's

going to be a big year

and here on Newsround we've

got your guide to all the huge

events that are happening.

I'm letting you know now it's

going to be jam packed!

If sport's your thing, then I think

you're going to be pretty

chuffed.

Let's start on a high.

The Winter by Games always

throws up a few surprises.

They take place at the end

of the month in Colorado in the US.

That's got to hurt!

Then on to more snow

at the Winter Olympic

and Paralympic Games.

PyeongChang in South Korea is ready

to host one of 2018's

biggest sporting events.

They've worked hard to get

all the venues ready.

The time is now.

In April it is time to ditch the ski

suits and put on a pair of shorts.

The Commonwealth Games are being

held on Australia's Gold Coast

and Newsround will be there.

Last up, footie fans have waited

four years for this one,

the Fifa World Cup will keep

you busy during the summer months.

It is being held in Russia

for the first time.

Germany are the reigning champions.

England face Belgium,

Panama and Tunisia in Group G.

And if you want to know what's

going to be huge when it

comes to films this year, Newsround

There's gonna be another Avengers

film, the Incredibles 2 and also

a sequel to that really old film,

Mary

Poppins.

I can't wait for it to get started!

Sticking with sport and tonight's

big game sees Arsenal play

Chelsea for the 60th time under

the management of Arsene Wenger.

This season, the two

teams have played against

each other twice -

once in the League and once

in the Community Shield.

Both times it was

a draw at full time.

We know that our home form will be

absolutely vital and we just came

home from West Brom frustrated

because we lost two points, that was

really frustrating. It on the other

hand we know it puts us even more

under pressure to deliver a big

result.

We've been hearing a lot over

the past year about how coral

reefs are under threat

from

pollution, climate

change, and from humans.

In Fiji, people have been chipping

off pieces of live coral

from the reefs as souvenirs,

or to sell and send abroad.

Well, the government there has

now brought in new laws

to protect the reefs,

and the

creatures that live there.

This makes it illegal to havest,

buy or sell live coral

or rocks from the reef.
