Hello! You're live at five with Newsround. I'm Nel and He's Ricky.

:00:23.:00:28.

We have a cracker of a show for you today, including: The UK's first

:00:28.:00:32.

ever operation in 3D. And you put the stars of Pirates

:00:32.:00:37.

through their paces. But first to the weather. This time

:00:37.:00:39.

last week we were enjoying bright sunshine and record temperatures in

:00:39.:00:46.

places like Aberdeen. But it's gone from sun to snow! Today, Scotland

:00:46.:00:48.

is experiencing freezing temperatures, sleet and ice. Nearly

:00:48.:00:52.

25cm of the white stuff has fallen overnight. 3,000 homes are without

:00:52.:00:55.

electircity, and nine people, including six teenagers, had to be

:00:55.:00:57.

rescued in the Cairngorms after they got stranded during the sudden

:00:57.:01:00.

change in temperature. We're told temperatures might be a bit more

:01:00.:01:10.
:01:10.:01:10.

summery by the weekend. Here's hoping.

:01:10.:01:14.

The next time you get your pocket money, you may want to take a

:01:14.:01:17.

closer look to make sure it's real, because the number of dodgy 1

:01:17.:01:20.

coins has doubled in the past ten years. There are nearly 44 million

:01:20.:01:27.

fakes out there now, so I've been to find out more. Don't you just

:01:27.:01:31.

hate it when you're dying for a snack and the machine won't take

:01:31.:01:40.

your money? It may be because the 1 coin you put in was a fake. In

:01:40.:01:45.

the last nine months the number of fake 1 coins making their way into

:01:45.:01:48.

tillsers purses and piggy banks in the UK has gone up by 3 million.

:01:48.:01:54.

There are now 44 million 1 coins out there that aren't real. That's

:01:54.:02:02.

3 in every 100. It is easier for shopkeepers to spot a fake note.

:02:02.:02:07.

They can use a special pen or check for a watermark. But fake 1 coins

:02:07.:02:13.

are harder to spot. See if the picture matchs the date it was made

:02:13.:02:17.

and check the markings around the edge. The Royal Mint are worried,

:02:17.:02:22.

because thin crease could lead to them having to scrap the old 1

:02:22.:02:26.

coins and reissue new once. It is bad news for the Government,

:02:26.:02:29.

because the Government has to replace the money that's fake.

:02:29.:02:33.

Companies don't get as much money as they expected. And it is bad

:02:33.:02:37.

news for people who are caught out. They don't have as much money to

:02:37.:02:45.

spend. The Royal Mint says if you find a fake 1 coin take it to your

:02:45.:02:50.

police station. This one is definitely a fake!

:02:50.:02:56.

But it sure tastes good. LOL indeed. Tasty money.

:02:56.:03:00.

Some deadly dinosaur news next. One of the world's top dino experts

:03:00.:03:03.

says these fearsome fellas might have lived in water rather than

:03:03.:03:05.

roaming Earth. Scientists now think their tails were so heavy they

:03:06.:03:08.

could be supported only in lakes and seas.

:03:08.:03:11.

Next, you've definitely heard of 3D films, but what about 3D

:03:11.:03:14.

operations? Surgeons in Manchester have carried out the first UK

:03:14.:03:17.

procedure using the technology. The special glasses allow them to see

:03:17.:03:22.

what they're doing in 3D on a big screen. They say it will help them

:03:22.:03:32.

cause less damage and be more accurate. All this week we are

:03:32.:03:36.

celebrating Newsround's 40 th birthday by looking back at what

:03:36.:03:40.

made the news from the different decades. Today I looked at my era,

:03:40.:03:50.
:03:50.:03:52.

Hi everyone I'm Ricky and welcome to a special Newsround. All this

:03:52.:03:56.

week we are celebrating the programme's 40th birthday by

:03:56.:04:00.

looking at what's changed while we've been on the telly. Today I've

:04:00.:04:03.

come to the national media museum in Bradford to look at the decade

:04:03.:04:08.

which brought tech knoll into our homes. I'm talking about personal

:04:08.:04:15.

computers, video games and giant mobile phones. Welcome to the '80s.

:04:15.:04:20.

Hello again... Hello again... is what Newsround looked like back

:04:20.:04:24.

then. We've had lots of letters asking twhot is for. One of the big

:04:24.:04:30.

stories we covered was the Falklands. They lie 8,000 mile in

:04:30.:04:33.

the South Atlantic. The Falklands islands have been under British

:04:33.:04:38.

control since the 1830s. Argentina in South America has long said the

:04:38.:04:45.

islands should belong to them, and on 2nd April 1982 they invaded.

:04:45.:04:49.

British Prime Minister matcher reacted quickly, sending 28,000

:04:50.:04:55.

troops and more than 100 ships to defend them. On 14th June, two

:04:55.:05:05.
:05:05.:05:06.

months after the invasion, Argentina surrendered. 255

:05:06.:05:14.

servicemen lost their lives as well as Argentinians and islanders. The

:05:14.:05:18.

UK Government says as long as the islanders want to remain British

:05:18.:05:21.

they will continue to be looked after. Over the year this is

:05:21.:05:25.

programme has tried to keep you informed with all of the big

:05:25.:05:29.

stories wherever they are happening. But it is not just the big events

:05:29.:05:36.

we report on. When we come across stories that are out of the

:05:36.:05:44.

ordinary we bring them to you. Limbo roller skating.

:05:44.:05:53.

This is Humphrey the elephant seal. Every night this week we'll be

:05:53.:06:00.

looking back at what else has changed, so tune in at 6.55pm on

:06:00.:06:06.

CBBC. Tune in to our special bulletin at

:06:06.:06:11.

6.55. And it is on the Newsround website.

:06:11.:06:18.

One thing that's changed since the 1980s the way cartoons are made.

:06:18.:06:21.

Aardman Animations have made Pirates, An Adventure With

:06:21.:06:26.

Scientists. One younger film can gore had an invention of his own

:06:26.:06:30.

when he quizzed the star and the director for the charity Film Club.

:06:30.:06:40.
:06:40.:06:43.

What's the most technically demanding part of the film?

:06:43.:06:48.

suppose putting a model ship which is a huge thing about five metres

:06:48.:06:54.

long, and putting it into a computer-generated sea. That was a

:06:54.:06:58.

huge technical achievement. I had a team working on that for probably a

:06:58.:07:07.

year. Some of you are just fished dressed up in a hat. How do you get

:07:07.:07:12.

into your character? I looked at him and the more I looked at him I

:07:12.:07:17.

thought the centre of his character was his beard. If I thought

:07:17.:07:22.

beautiful beard, I'm magnificent, I became him. And he's got a stupid

:07:22.:07:28.

face. Stupid and beardy. That looked like a lot of fun.

:07:28.:07:33.

Before you see the movie check out the website for Joe's review of

:07:33.:07:34.

Pirates, An Adventure With Scientists.

:07:34.:07:38.

Finally, hitting the water would be the last thing you wanted to do if

:07:38.:07:44.

you are playing golf, but not if you are John Senden. He wowed

:07:44.:07:47.

audiences at the American masters by skimming the ball across the

:07:47.:07:51.
