Hello, Ayshah here with your last Newsround update of the day.

First, to Spain where officials are having to change the law because

King Juan Carlos announced he's stepping down

and passing on the role to his son, Prince Felipe.

It's the first time this has happened in Spain

and not everyone is happy about it. Ricky has more.

It was a message that shocked a country.

The King of Spain, Juan Carlos, went on TV to announce

that he was stepping down as King after nearly 40 years.

He said he wanted to make way for a younger generation

It's called abdicating and has never happened in Spain before.

In the past, he was worried popular. He helped develop this country and

helped it modernise. He has recently been in trouble. He was criticised

because he went hunting elephants in Africa when a lot of people here in

Spain could not even find a job. The announcement was met

by protests in cities, including these in the capital,

Madrid. They're calling for a vote to be

held to decide whether Spain Because Spain has never been faced

with this situation before, they don't have a law on abdication

and royal succession. Members of the government

have met today to talk about drawing up a law that will

allow Prince Felipe to become King. Giving up the throne has happened

in other countries. Last year, Belgium's King Albert

abdicated in favour of his son and Queen Beatrix

of the Netherlands also stepped The Queen will not abdicate. She has

no intention of doing so. She made a promise in 1947 that she would serve

all of her life. as Prince Felipe prepares to

become King Felipe the sixth. All today you've been telling us
