It's Sunday lunchtime and you're live with me Ricky, bringing you | :00:00. | :00:07.
news of the Arctic trek with a difference. Plus why this street's | :00:08. | :00:15.
been taken over by a giant water slide. This is Newsround. | :00:16. | :00:22.
But first, the search is on for the one baby monkey still missing from | :00:23. | :00:25.
Blackpool Zoo. Five primates were stolen earlier in the week but the | :00:26. | :00:29.
youngest has still not been found. Here's Jenny with more on why the | :00:30. | :00:33.
missing monkey's such a concern for zoo keepers. | :00:34. | :00:36.
Cotton-top tamarins are critically endangered, with only 6,000 left in | :00:37. | :00:41.
the wild. Two females and a young baby were taken on Tuesday night | :00:42. | :00:44.
after thieves broke into the animals' enclosure. I think it's | :00:45. | :00:49.
disgusting. We haven't had any primates ever stolen from the zoo. | :00:50. | :00:53.
The primates that have been taken are very endangered animals. Two | :00:54. | :00:57.
male emperor tamarins were also taken. Experts say individual | :00:58. | :01:01.
monkeys can fetch hundreds, even thousands of pounds, on the black | :01:02. | :01:04.
market, one of the reasons why they may have been taken. These animals | :01:05. | :01:09.
can be worth quite a lot of money but to us the value is not | :01:10. | :01:14.
important. We just wanted our animals back to make sure they were | :01:15. | :01:18.
in a good condition. Then on Friday, a breakthrough. Lancashire Police | :01:19. | :01:22.
found four of the monkeys abandoned on a doorstep in West Yorkshire. | :01:23. | :01:27.
When I got to Halifax police station, they were in small metal | :01:28. | :01:31.
cages. They looked in good condition but obviously they did look scared. | :01:32. | :01:35.
But the baby cotton-top tamarin is still missing and the zoo says being | :01:36. | :01:38.
away from the environment it was born in is worrying. Obviously we're | :01:39. | :01:42.
still trying to find out where the remaining animal is. That baby's not | :01:43. | :01:46.
independent at the moment. It relies on its mother. Police will continue | :01:47. | :01:50.
their search for the baby monkey and it's hoped he'll be returned to his | :01:51. | :01:54.
family here at Blackpool Zoo very soon. | :01:55. | :01:57.
Now to some sad news from Afghanistan, where people are | :01:58. | :02:00.
observing a national day of mourning after a huge landslide in one area | :02:01. | :02:04.
of the country. Villagers are waiting for emergency food supplies | :02:05. | :02:07.
and are having to sleep in temporary tents after houses and buildings | :02:08. | :02:11.
were hit by falling mud and rocks from a nearby mountain. It's not | :02:12. | :02:14.
know how many people have died but many are missing. | :02:15. | :02:19.
Events like this are extremely rare. But if that or anything you see in | :02:20. | :02:23.
the news upsets you, there's lots of help and advice on the Newsround | :02:24. | :02:26.
website. In other news, Ukraine's Prime | :02:27. | :02:29.
Minister has accused Russia and its supporters of trying to start a real | :02:30. | :02:33.
war in the country. It follows growing violence between Ukraine's | :02:34. | :02:35.
army and pro-Russian groups for control of important buildings in | :02:36. | :02:38.
several towns and cities in the East. It's all due to a split in the | :02:39. | :02:42.
country between those who want neighbouring Russia to have more | :02:43. | :02:46.
influence and those who want Ukraine to be closer to the EU. | :02:47. | :02:50.
To a scientific experiment that will send shivers down your spine next. | :02:51. | :02:54.
Twins Hugo and Ross are testing how extreme temperatures affect the body | :02:55. | :02:57.
by trekking across the arctic in clothing from both the modern day | :02:58. | :03:07.
and 100 years ago. Hugo Andros are identical twins. | :03:08. | :03:11.
They have spent months preparing for a very different Arctic expedition. | :03:12. | :03:19.
-- you go and Ross. The brothers will track 340 miles across the | :03:20. | :03:23.
Greenland polar ice cap to try to raise hundreds of thousands of | :03:24. | :03:26.
pounds for charity. But the experience will be very different | :03:27. | :03:34.
for each of them. Hugo will be in modern protective clothing, while | :03:35. | :03:39.
Ross will be in kit worn by explorers 100 years ago. The | :03:40. | :03:42.
brothers decided who would wear what by flipping a coin. The experiment | :03:43. | :03:49.
will allow explorers to find out if Hugo benefits from advances in | :03:50. | :03:53.
modern technology and nutrition. How is Ross coping? When I stopped for | :03:54. | :04:02.
ten, 15 minutes, I can slightly feel the wind through here but all I have | :04:03. | :04:07.
is a very thin jumper. I have three pairs of socks and I need to know | :04:08. | :04:10.
how they perform in this environment, so I have tripled up to | :04:11. | :04:16.
make sure I don't get frostbite. And then a pair of trousers, mittens, a | :04:17. | :04:22.
hat and a balaclava. I am very comfortable. They are being guided | :04:23. | :04:27.
by the world record-holder for the longest ever unsupported polar | :04:28. | :04:32.
journey in Greenland. The weather is not all that great. It is what it | :04:33. | :04:39.
is! We are warm and fed and watered, so it is a great team. All going | :04:40. | :04:45.
well, the trek should take 22 days. Imagine if the main street in your | :04:46. | :04:49.
city centre could be turned into a giant water slide. Well, that's | :04:50. | :04:52.
exactly what happened today in Bristol. A 300-foot flume has been | :04:53. | :04:56.
built as part of a massive art project that's meant to make people | :04:57. | :05:00.
think about seeing their city from a different perspective. Andrew Plant | :05:01. | :05:06.
is there. These things are made of hay bales, | :05:07. | :05:11.
covered in plastic and then there is rubber sheeting to make things as | :05:12. | :05:16.
slippery as possible. The all important thing is water and then | :05:17. | :05:20.
they put washing up liquid on here to make people go as quick as | :05:21. | :05:25.
possible. Here comes another one! Shooting past! We are told 100,000 | :05:26. | :05:33.
people applied for tickets! Just imagine that! They can only give out | :05:34. | :05:38.
360, so just a tiny fraction of those who want to will get a chance | :05:39. | :05:43.
to do this. We are going to show you some shots with a head camera of | :05:44. | :05:50.
somebody going down. When you are on there and lowdown, it does look | :05:51. | :05:55.
quite quick. I want to go to Bristol but I can't! I have to be here at | :05:56. | :05:58.
2pm to see you later. | :05:59. | :06:00. |
