Hi, Leah here with your Friday Newsround.

0:00:120:00:14

First, the big day has finally arrived.

0:00:140:00:17

Today, the Olympics in Rio De Janiero will begin

0:00:170:00:19

with a massive opening ceremony and Ricky has made the trip

0:00:190:00:22

to South America and will be covering all the action for us.

0:00:220:00:28

DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

0:00:280:00:33

Rio is ready!

0:00:420:00:47

The venues are waiting. And the athletes?

0:00:470:00:53

They're just eager to get started.

0:00:530:00:55

You know, I go out there, and I just stay very within myself.

0:00:550:00:58

Quite reserved and just do what I know I can do.

0:00:580:01:05

We believe we can go out there and get a medal.

0:01:050:01:07

And we'll do our best to go out there and do that.

0:01:070:01:10

I'm excited about it. We've got a great group around us.

0:01:100:01:13

And all the teams, the women's, the men's, sprint, row,

0:01:130:01:15

BMX, we've got a pretty strong team, I think!

0:01:150:01:21

For me, being able to do that dive now is taking so much

0:01:210:01:24

pressure off my shoulders.

0:01:240:01:25

I think my dives are now across-the-board strong enough

0:01:250:01:27

to get me a gold medal in the Olympic Games.

0:01:270:01:31

For me, I want to run for medals and run for history.

0:01:310:01:34

And Newsround is ready too. Here we are at Olympic Park in Rio.

0:01:340:01:39

Tonight, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2016 will take

0:01:390:01:42

place at the Maracana Stadium.

0:01:420:01:46

We don't know what exactly is going to happen during

0:01:460:01:48

the opening ceremony because a lot of information

0:01:480:01:50

is being kept under wraps.

0:01:500:01:51

But we can expect a lot of music and dancing and fireworks.

0:01:510:01:56

Team GB are expecting to win lots of medals right

0:01:560:01:58

here in the park.

0:01:580:02:01

During the London 2012 games, they won a total of 65 medals.

0:02:010:02:04

Can they better that here in Rio? Fingers crossed!

0:02:040:02:09

Over the summer holidays, lots of you will probably be taking

0:02:100:02:13

trips out to museums near you.

0:02:130:02:15

But one of the country's most popular, The Science Museum

0:02:150:02:18

in London, says it's planning to charge money to go

0:02:180:02:20

to one of its exhibits.

0:02:200:02:22

It's summer - and here at the Science Museum in London,

0:02:220:02:27

lots of kids have come with their families to see

0:02:270:02:29

all the cool stuff on display.

0:02:290:02:35

It's free to come here to see most things.

0:02:350:02:37

But the museum are giving one of the most popular interactive

0:02:370:02:40

exhibitions a makeover.

0:02:400:02:41

And they say they'll be charging people to come and visit it

0:02:410:02:44

when it opens in October.

0:02:440:02:50

National museums in England, Wales and Scotland are free

0:02:510:02:52

to visit, but they can still charge for some special displays.

0:02:520:02:55

But what do kids here think about the new charge?

0:02:550:03:00

Because folk are on tight budgets, they may not be able

0:03:000:03:03

to experience everything.

0:03:030:03:05

They need the money to keep the museums going.

0:03:050:03:07

If it's really good, you feel good about it,

0:03:070:03:09

that you've paid the money but if it's really bad, you feel

0:03:090:03:12

like they have ripped you off.

0:03:120:03:14

If they didn't, they wouldn't have enough money to improve the museum.

0:03:140:03:17

I don't think that's very fair, that some parents have to fork out

0:03:170:03:20

when some parents can't.

0:03:200:03:25

The new exhibit, Wonderlab, is still being built at the moment -

0:03:260:03:30

I spoke to Natalie, who's in charge of it.

0:03:300:03:35

Why did you not feel you could make an example and not charge families?

0:03:350:03:38

Why did you not just say, look, we've got this to show off

0:03:380:03:41

and everyone can come?

0:03:410:03:42

It costs a lot of money to run an interactive gallery like this

0:03:420:03:45

and the ticket charge goes towards running it.

0:03:450:03:47

For a family of four people, it could cost up to ?30.

0:03:470:03:52

How do you feel about families who cannot afford it?

0:03:520:03:55

So, we will be having initiatives to get those families

0:03:550:03:58

to come to this gallery, if they find that

0:03:580:04:00

ticket charge barrier.

0:04:000:04:01

We're doubling the number of schoolchildren who will

0:04:010:04:03

visit this gallery. They will visit for free.

0:04:030:04:07

We will be working with schools directly, and pupils who perhaps

0:04:070:04:09

might not have been able to come can get tickets.

0:04:090:04:18

The new exhibit has cost the science museum around ?6 million to complete

0:04:180:04:22

but when it open in just two months it will be the visitors who'll judge

0:04:220:04:25

whether it's worth paying for.

0:04:250:04:32

And finally - what's the last thing you'd expect see at the seaside?

0:04:320:04:35

How about a family of bears enjoying a splash around at the beach.

0:04:350:04:38

This video filmed on a mobile shows a fully grown bear and her two cubs

0:04:380:04:42

splashing around at Pope beach in California earlier this week.

0:04:420:04:45

splashing around at Pope beach in California earlier this week.

0:04:450:04:46

They were completely unfazed by people nearby -

0:04:460:04:47

before heading off back into the woods.

0:04:470:04:53

That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.

0:04:530:04:56

Bye!
