Let's get the stories you need to know this Wednesday.

I'm Ayshah and here's what's coming up:

Are you spending too much time on your gadgets?

The species with a tongue faster than a Formula 1 car.

But first, after Christmas, animal charities in the UK

see a huge leap in the number of abandoned pets.

They're often given as presents but sometimes their new owners

struggle to look after them.

Leah's been to meet two boys who took on rescue cat, Purdy,

to find out more.

Oscar and Monty are two animal lovers who welcomed this cat

into their home after she was abandoned at Christmas 2014.

So, Oscar, Monty, can you tell me a bit about Purdy?

She was abandoned, wasn't she?

How do you feel about that?

It was really mean people who own her.

Just really not kind.

How important do you think it is to really understand how

to look after he pets and know how to care for them?

Quite a lot, because if you don't know how to look after them,

you might be treating them really badly.

It was RSPCA inspector Esther Lincoln who came

to the rescue of Purdy.

She is back to visit Oscar and Monty

to see how their furry friend Purdy is doing.

Esther, can you tell me how you found Purdy?

I was called to an abandoned kitten

on the seventh floor of a high-rise block of flats.

There are along the corridor on the side was a load of boxes

filled with a mound of tinsel with Christmas decorations on top

and literally loose was this small kitten,

couldn't be more than a couple of months old.

There are a lot of animals that are gotten rid of

after Christmas, unwanted Christmas presents.

If you do unfortunately get to the point where you realise

you are not coping with an animal, aside from the RSPCA,

we have got Blue Cross, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home,

the PDSA, the Dogs Trust,

there are so many charities that can offer advice and help.

What is your message to people?

Because it does happen quite a lot at this time of year.

If they are getting pets, what should they do?

You need to do your research,

it is not like buying a games console where, if you get bored,

you can put it away in a drawer.

They need more than just feeding and watering.

They need to go to the vets.

Some of the other basic care, apart from food and water,

is vaccinating, flea treatment, worming, these are all musts.

Animals are a big commitment, they need lots of care and attention

and if you are thinking about getting one,

you need to know how to look after them and where to get advice

if you are struggling.

That way, maybe not so many of them

will be abandoned in the future.

Next up, we're talking gadgets.

Lots of your parents say they find it harder to persuade you

to switch off TVs, computers and phones

than to get you to do homework.

The charity Action for Children, who did the research,

say too much screen time can slow down your learning

and can impact on family relationships.

Next, to calls from top politicians in the UK asking for more to be done

to help child refugees from places like Syria.

I've been looking at this one.

Over the past year, we've seen thousands of people

leaving their homes in countries like Syria, in the Middle East,

where war has destroyed towns and cities.

They've travelled huge distances

in search of a more a peaceful life in Europe.

Many of them are children,

who have even ended up doing some of the journey by themselves.

Like 11-year-old Safid, who spoke to Newsround last year.

He got separated from his dad

as they travelled from Aghanistan to Europe.

It took him a whole year to get to northern France,

hoping to get to the UK.

There are thousands of other children in the same situation.

The UK Government has already said

it will take in 20,000 Syrian refugees

from camps in neighbouring countries like Jordan,

Lebanon and Turkey.

But a group of politicians thinks the Government should be helping

children who have already made it to Europe.

Often they have done that on their own and what we are saying today

is that our country, the United Kingdom,

should allow 3,000 of these children to come and live here in safety.

I've come to this school to find out what some of you think about this.

The UK right now is more or less full.

Other countries like Germany have taken in over a million people

and we should be able to match that and help out.

Well, the benefits would be they would have a better future,

but the problems would be that there wouldn't be enough room

in the schools.

The Government has told Newsround that they're already helping

to re-home vulnerable refugee children from Syria.

And they also told us that they are giving money

to create a safer world.

Next up, chameleons have one of the fastest tongues

in the animal world.

Faster than a Formula 1 car!

A new study by scientists looked at the speed by watching them

in super-slow motion.

They've found the smallest ones have the fastest tongues.

Finally, take a look online to see the black hole burpring out massive

clouds of gas in a neighbouring galaxy.
