Hello, I'm Jenny, live with your last Newsround on this World Book | :00:00. | :00:09.
Day, a global celebration of writers, illustrators and everything | :00:10. | :00:14.
brilliant about reading. You've been sending us amazing pictures today of | :00:15. | :00:17.
you guys dressed as characters from your favourite books. But earlier, | :00:18. | :00:25.
we sent Leah on a quest to find out what makes a really good story. | :00:26. | :00:27.
Check this out. Earlier this morning, in a brightly | :00:28. | :00:31.
lit studio in Salford, I met the winner of Blue Peter's best story | :00:32. | :00:35.
award, Katherine Rundell. And it got me thinking what goes into making a | :00:36. | :00:39.
really good book. Well, I met up with Katherine once again to find | :00:40. | :00:43.
out from her what goes into making a fantastic read. Of my three top | :00:44. | :00:47.
tips, the first one would be character. You need a character who | :00:48. | :00:54.
you feel strongly about. It doesn't matter if you love them, it just | :00:55. | :00:58.
matters that you care what happens to them. The type of characters I | :00:59. | :01:02.
like are ones with a kind heart. I kind of like them starting off to be | :01:03. | :01:06.
shy and then when they come to the end they're a person that stands up | :01:07. | :01:09.
for themself. They're not selfish, and they share. My second tip would | :01:10. | :01:16.
be a story, a great story that makes you want to keep turning the page | :01:17. | :01:20.
and stay up late at night to finish it and really, really makes you | :01:21. | :01:24.
care. There's a mystery, like they go into a big hole. You get into the | :01:25. | :01:29.
middle and it starts to get interesting. Like, something that | :01:30. | :01:45.
shows courage. But the most important thing is you just pick up | :01:46. | :01:49.
a book, get reading and writing your own stories because who knows, one | :01:50. | :01:52.
day you could end up picking up a top prize on World Book Day. | :01:53. | :02:00.
You can see more of your brilliant World Book Day costumes over on the | :02:01. | :02:10.
website. And check out three top tips from Children's Laureate, | :02:11. | :02:12.
Malorie Blackman. The Paralympic Winter Games start in | :02:13. | :02:14.
Sochi tomorrow, and 15-year-old Milly Knight will be team GB's flag | :02:15. | :02:17.
bearer at the grand opening ceremony. Milly is Great Britain's | :02:18. | :02:20.
youngest ever Winter Paralympian and will compete in the Alpine skiing | :02:21. | :02:23.
event next week. She spoke earlier about how she found out she would be | :02:24. | :02:30.
flying the flag. So, this morning I was told that I had a meeting. I | :02:31. | :02:34.
wasn't sure what it was about at all, so I was, like, "Have I done | :02:35. | :02:41.
anything wrong? Am I in trouble?" And then I was in the meeting, and | :02:42. | :02:45.
they were, like, "So, as you might be aware, the opening ceremony is | :02:46. | :02:48.
tomorrow, and we'd like you to be our flag bearer." And I was, like... | :02:49. | :02:53.
It was amazing! And join us in the morning, when | :02:54. | :02:57.
we'll have a full preview of the Winter Paralympics. | :02:58. | :03:00. |
