Hi, I'm Hayley with your Newsround update. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Two men's lucky escape from a falling tower. | :00:00. | :00:12.
And the video game that's celebrating its 30th birthday. | :00:13. | :00:21.
First to the amazing story of the veteran who didn't want to | :00:22. | :00:25.
miss out on yesterday's D-Day celebration so decided to go | :00:26. | :00:27.
90-year-old Bernard Jordan caused some worry when he went missing from | :00:28. | :00:32.
his carehome but has just returned home from his secret trip to France. | :00:33. | :00:37.
He decided to go it alone when couldn't get a place | :00:38. | :00:40.
The celebrations were commemorate the day, 70 years ago, when British | :00:41. | :00:45.
Forces landed in France to fight Hitler's army during World War Two. | :00:46. | :00:50.
It was the biggest seaborne invasion in history. | :00:51. | :00:52.
A massive military force set out from the UK towards France. | :00:53. | :00:57.
Thousands of British soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy | :00:58. | :01:00.
and started to break through the German army's defences. | :01:01. | :01:04.
One of those soldiers was Bernard Jordan. | :01:05. | :01:07.
He was a young officer in the navy who crossed the English Channel to | :01:08. | :01:10.
fight on the beaches of Normandy and kick the Germans out of France. | :01:11. | :01:14.
At 90 years old, he lives in a care home in the south of England. | :01:15. | :01:20.
He was desperate to join his collegues, but when he was told | :01:21. | :01:23.
it couldn't be arranged in time, he decided to hide his medals under | :01:24. | :01:27.
his grey coat and set off to France without telling anyone. | :01:28. | :01:30.
At 90, it's not an easy trip to make and Bernard did forget | :01:31. | :01:34.
But after making friends with some young | :01:35. | :01:40.
soldiers on the ferry and joining in with some singing on board the boat, | :01:41. | :01:44.
he was befriended by a collegue and made it to the celebrations. | :01:45. | :01:48.
He had a really good time meeting friends. | :01:49. | :01:53.
The message I have got back from him if he's looking forward to going | :01:54. | :01:59.
back next year with the same veterans from Brighton. | :02:00. | :02:07.
On his return back to the UK today, Bernard told the press | :02:08. | :02:10.
He's now back at his care home where he's having a | :02:11. | :02:14.
well-deserved rest and hopes to go back to Normandy again next year. | :02:15. | :02:21.
Ukraine's new president Petro Poroshenko has been sworn in | :02:22. | :02:23.
He won a landslide victory at the elections two weeks ago. | :02:24. | :02:28.
It's hoped a new leader can help stabilise the country | :02:29. | :02:31.
which has had lots of changes in the last couple of months, including | :02:32. | :02:34.
the region of Crimea splitting off and coming under Russian control. | :02:35. | :02:37.
There is still fighting in East Ukraine because some people there | :02:38. | :02:40.
Mr Poroshenko and Russian President, Vladimir Putin, | :02:41. | :02:44.
have agreed that the fighting in Eastern Ukraine should be brought | :02:45. | :02:46.
It's the final of Britain's Got Talent tonight | :02:47. | :02:54.
and all 11 acts will be hoping they'll be voted the winner. | :02:55. | :02:57.
One of the finalists is violinist Lettice Rowbotham. | :02:58. | :02:59.
She spoke to Ricky who asked her how she would feel if she wins the show. | :03:00. | :03:06.
I would be so overwhelmed and so happy if I did win. I would be so | :03:07. | :03:14.
grateful and I think it's important if you are about to perform, not to | :03:15. | :03:18.
be nervous and really enjoy it and go, this is really fun. I'm going to | :03:19. | :03:22.
go out there and try to make people smile. | :03:23. | :03:24.
There's a full list of the finalists over on the Newsround website. | :03:25. | :03:27.
And you've been telling us who you want to win. | :03:28. | :03:30.
Camilla in Oxford says, "I want Bars and Melody to win because they're | :03:31. | :03:34.
Emily in Daventry says, "Me and my sister want Paddy and | :03:35. | :03:38.
Nico to win because it is different and you would need a lot | :03:39. | :03:42.
And Phoebe in Surrey says, "I want Darcy Oake to win because a | :03:43. | :03:47.
magician has never won the show and what he does is mind-blowing!" | :03:48. | :03:52.
Next, it's the addictive, yet simple game that keeps hundreds of millions | :03:53. | :03:55.
We're talking about Tetris and this week it turned 30 years old. | :03:56. | :04:00.
Ricky has been taking a look at the key to its success. | :04:01. | :04:05.
It's a game of moving around different shapes made out | :04:06. | :04:08.
of four blocks to fill a full line which in turn disappears. | :04:09. | :04:13.
It's a simple idea, but 30 years after it was first developed, | :04:14. | :04:17.
I've been playing the game for 25 years. | :04:18. | :04:25.
I feel very relaxed about it when I play it and I'm really passionate | :04:26. | :04:36.
about the game. Tetris was created in 1984 in Moscow | :04:37. | :04:41.
by Russian scientist He decided on its name by combining | :04:42. | :04:44.
the Greek word for four, "tetra," Its popularity soon spread and in | :04:45. | :04:48.
1989 the Nintendo GameBoy launched The handheld console sold | :04:49. | :04:52.
around 35 million copies. Even now you can still play Tetris | :04:53. | :04:56.
on your phones or tablets. How come it's still such a popular | :04:57. | :05:08.
game? Simplicity. Modern games are very absorbing and time-consuming | :05:09. | :05:13.
but something like this you can pick up and play for ten minutes and if | :05:14. | :05:17.
you want to do, you could play for hours because it's a very good game. | :05:18. | :05:25.
Its catchy tune might have helped too. | :05:26. | :05:27.
To celebrate its 30th year, the game reached new heights by being played | :05:28. | :05:31.
And now to a touch and go tumbling tower that suffered | :05:32. | :05:36.
Instead of the usual explosives used to knock down huge buildings, | :05:37. | :05:41.
two men in the Belarusian city of Zaslavl decided to use a masonry | :05:42. | :05:44.
Perhaps not the safest way to demolish something | :05:45. | :05:48.
Luckily the men had just enough time to run out of harms way | :05:49. | :05:53.
That's all from me today but I'll be back tomorrow morning at 8.55am. | :05:54. | :05:59. |
