Hi, I'm Ricky.

Coming up on Newsround.

Schools are shut by snow again!

The Japanese volcano

blowing its top.

And we meet some very

curious penguins.

First up, it might be March 8th,

but there's been more snow

today in parts of the UK!

Part of North Wales, Yorkshire,

Lancashire and Merseyside

are just a few of the places

which had to shut schools

because of the snow.

Which only means one thing.

Snow day.

Hi, I'm Aila.

And I'm Ivy.

And we live in Leeds.

Our school is closed today

so we've been sledging!

School sent us a message and it

said school is closed.

We've decided to go

outside and play.

We made a snowman

and had a snow fight.

Thanks for all of those.

Today is International Women's Day -

a day to celebrate the amazing

achievements of women

all over the world.

We spoke to a group of women who've

achieved some incredible

things, to see what advice they had

for young girls growing up today.

Hello everybody there at Newsround.

My advice for all of you young girls

watching Newsround right now is...

For International Women's Day

we spoke to six amazing women.

Millie, Lauren, Anita and Yasmin,

Kimberley and Ellie to see

what they had to say.

Being a girl can be

difficult in so many ways.

I feel like there's one major

challenge that maybe some

of you that are watching Newsround

might have faced and

that is comparison.

You shouldn't compare

yourself to anyone else.

We live in a crazy selfie generation

and there's so much pressure put

on the way that you look and the way

that you present yourself that

sometimes the really good stuff

that's going to make you soar

and make dreams come

true gets overlooked.

So, I'm 17, a year away

from being an adult officially,

and I would give the advice

to my younger self

of just not being scared.

Not mind so much about

what other people say

about you or think about your ideas.

Don't let anyone hold you back.

We are all individuals,

we all have different lives.

I think you have that one life,

you've got to live it and you've

just got to enjoy everything you do.

The way you dress,

the music you listen to,

the things you write about,

the things you read, they're

personal to you and if they're

important

to you, they're important.

Don't worry so much

about fitting in with

everybody else, just stick

to

what you're doing.

You're pretty cool.

You can always do it.

You can do it.

Just do it!

Just keep your eyes on the prize.

Stop caring what other people think.

Great advice for everyone.

Next, it's six months

since Hurricane Irma swept

across the Caribbean islands.

It was the worst hurricane

there's ever been.

BBC reporter Paul Blake is visiting

the British Virgin Islands to find

out how the area's recovering.

Hey, Newsround.

Over the last six months

people here in the British

Virgin Islands have been busy

rebuilding and cleaning up after

Hurricane Irma.

The hurricane spread a lot of debris

and rubbish all across the

islands, bits of people's houses,

their boats, their cars.

And workers have been

busy collecting it and

moving it to a dump

away from other people.

But a lot of houses and offices

are still heavily damaged

and the builders are working every

day to try to repair them.

Meanwhile all the schoolkids

are back in class,

but many are attending schools that

are not their own because their

classrooms are still damaged.

A lot of people here

hope the workers can

begin to repair some

of the school buildings soon.

A lot of progress has been made

in the British Virgin Islands,

but there is still

a lot of work to do.

The next hurricane season begins in

less than three months, and people

here say they want to be as prepared

as possible for the next storm.

Now it's not often you see a volcano

really blow its top.

But check this out!

These explosive eruptions are coming

from Mount Shinmoedake

in southwestern Japan.

It's the volcano's first major

eruption in seven years.

Incredible!

And check out these nosey

penguins in Antarctica.

The camera was left

on the ice by an explorer

who was part of an expedition team.

And the penguins just

couldn't help themselves -

posing for a bit of a selfie

down the lens.

having a good old nosey!
