What has it been like over the past few days?

The BBC's Fiona Trott is in one street in Carlisle in Cumbria.

More than 1400 properties without power. Imagine spending the night

here in this street with no electricity, no heat, but that is

out there what around half the residents here have done. They have

decided to stay, but at least when they walk up this morning, they are

waking up to the floodwater going away and the way people were talking

last night, you get the impression they want to start some kind of

clean-up operation today. One house has already started doing that and

have pumped 5000 litres of floodwater and raw sewage.
