Hello, Newsrounders! I'm Martin live on CBBC this Saturday | :00:00. | :00:07.
afternoon. We've got loads on the way for you. | :00:08. | :00:17.
And, we'll tell you what one of Team GB's most daredevil stars is turning | :00:18. | :00:20.
her hand to next. This is Newsround. | :00:21. | :00:26.
First, rescue workers are struggling to reach the remote areas of the | :00:27. | :00:29.
Philippines worst affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The storm that hit | :00:30. | :00:33.
the south east Asian country yesterday is thought to be one of | :00:34. | :00:38.
the most powerful ever recorded So far, we know that more than 120 | :00:39. | :00:43.
people have died, but one aid agency is reporting the number could be way | :00:44. | :00:47.
higher than that. This was one of the most intense | :00:48. | :00:52.
typhoons to ever hit land. It tore across the Philippines, a group of | :00:53. | :00:55.
islands in the Pacific Ocean, causing devastating damage. The | :00:56. | :00:59.
storm did not affect the capital Manila, but smashed its way through | :01:00. | :01:03.
islands in the south east of the country. The storm triggered | :01:04. | :01:05.
landslides and floods, powerful winds flattened houses and cut off | :01:06. | :01:08.
electricity supplies and phone lines. Local airports and roads have | :01:09. | :01:12.
been damaged, so only military flights can bring supplies to the | :01:13. | :01:24.
more remote areas. We have seen the aid operation begin to get what | :01:25. | :01:29.
under way. Two large cargo planes taking aid to one of the worst | :01:30. | :01:34.
affected areas, and in particular to the coastal town of Tacloban where | :01:35. | :01:41.
whole streets have been wiped out and buildings flattened. Thousands | :01:42. | :01:46.
of people had left their homes to seek shelter before the storm, but | :01:47. | :01:50.
not everyone did. Despite huge evacuation efforts, a number of | :01:51. | :01:52.
people have been killed. Although the storm has moved on, people are | :01:53. | :01:57.
now left to take in the destruction and start the massive clean-up | :01:58. | :01:59.
operation. On Sibbu island, this villager says she didn't think the | :02:00. | :02:03.
winds would be strong enough to destroy her house, but the roof has | :02:04. | :02:08.
been ripped off and she says she doesn't know what to do. Some of the | :02:09. | :02:14.
areas affected were already struggling after an earthquake last | :02:15. | :02:17.
month which left hundreds dead and thousands living in temporary | :02:18. | :02:20.
accommodation. Thousands more have now lost their homes. Typhoon Haiyan | :02:21. | :02:24.
is now making its way across the South China Sea, heading towards | :02:25. | :02:27.
Vietnam, and is expected to hit the country tomorrow. | :02:28. | :02:30.
You can see loads more on the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the | :02:31. | :02:33.
Philippines on the Newsround website. | :02:34. | :02:40.
Next, some big news which could affect how you watch football on TV. | :02:41. | :02:45.
BT Sport has won exclusive rights to show live Champions League and | :02:46. | :02:49.
Europa League football. It's paying about ?900 million over three years. | :02:50. | :02:56.
It means that from 2015 games will no longer be shown live on ITV or | :02:57. | :03:03.
Sky Sports. From football to the Rugby World | :03:04. | :03:07.
Cup. It's a massive day for Rugby League fans because this afternoon | :03:08. | :03:10.
there are two big matches. England take on Fiji. It should be an | :03:11. | :03:15.
exciting game because a win for England will see them through to the | :03:16. | :03:19.
quarter finals. The Republic of Ireland haven't had the best of | :03:20. | :03:22.
starts to their campaign, and it's not set to be an easy game for them | :03:23. | :03:27.
today. They take on Australia to keep their qualifying hopes alive. | :03:28. | :03:32.
Scotland play Tsonga tomorrow. From racing down an ice slope on | :03:33. | :03:36.
something like a tea tray, to raging through the forest in a rally car, | :03:37. | :03:41.
Amy Williams is what you might call an adrenaline junkie. In 2010 she | :03:42. | :03:45.
was Team GB's only medallist at the Winter Olympic Games, but now she's | :03:46. | :03:48.
turning her attention to success behind the wheel. Leah's been to | :03:49. | :04:01.
meet her. Rally car diving is when there is to | :04:02. | :04:08.
view in the car. You have got the driver and navigator, and you go | :04:09. | :04:14.
through different stages of a course. He might have a road | :04:15. | :04:20.
section, and then you go into a forest. It is all about getting | :04:21. | :04:25.
through those sections as fast as possible. How did you make the jump | :04:26. | :04:30.
into rally car racing? At the Olympics I got to 92 mph. Through | :04:31. | :04:35.
all that speed, the quick decision-making, I have been lucky | :04:36. | :04:39.
that I could transfer that into rally in. When I am in the car, the | :04:40. | :04:45.
speed doesn't worry me, the quick decision-making, the | :04:46. | :04:48.
forward-thinking. I've got a feeling you are an adrenaline junkie. I am, | :04:49. | :04:54.
I guess. I did skeleton for ten years, and that gave me a definite | :04:55. | :04:58.
thrill. It became normal to be going 80 mph. I have something within me, | :04:59. | :05:04.
I guess, that is always searching for challenges. Looking ahead to | :05:05. | :05:10.
Sochi, in terms of Team GB, what are your thoughts? We have got a lot of | :05:11. | :05:15.
potential athletes. We have got James would who is world ranked | :05:16. | :05:21.
number one. I think if everything goes well and everyone has their | :05:22. | :05:26.
dream day, we could bring home up to five different metals. I would be a | :05:27. | :05:29.
real achievement. Next, have you noticed the date | :05:30. | :05:32.
It's ninth November 2013. That's pretty special because it's the last | :05:33. | :05:37.
time this century that the date will be made up of three consecutive odd | :05:38. | :05:42.
numbers in a row. Nine - 11 - 1 . A sequence like that won't be repeated | :05:43. | :05:46.
until the first March 2105, when the date will be one - three - five | :05:47. | :05:51.
That's all we've got time for on Newsround today. Check out the | :05:52. | :05:53.
Newsround website for all the best The United Kingdom, | :05:54. | :06:12.
land of hope and glory. And who better to entrust with | :06:13. | :06:14.
the nation's heritage than... Today the boys will compete to give | :06:15. | :06:19.
some unsuspecting tourists | :06:20. | :06:23. |
