has got a special new trick for you to try out.

0:00:010:00:02

See you.

0:00:020:00:04

Good morning, it's Hayley here with Newsround for you on TV

0:00:040:00:07

and online this Friday.

0:00:070:00:13

Keep watching.

0:00:130:00:14

It's five years on from the terrible earthquake that hit Japan.

0:00:140:00:16

And the natural event that draws in the crowds.

0:00:160:00:21

On 11 March 2011, Japan was struck by one of the most powerful

0:00:290:00:33

earthquakes on record.

0:00:330:00:36

It caused a giant wave out at sea, called a tsunami, which grew

0:00:360:00:40

to ten metres high.

0:00:400:00:42

Half an hour after the quake, the tsunami hit the north east coast

0:00:420:00:45

of Japan, destroying everything in its path.

0:00:450:00:48

Today, five years on from that terrible day, ceremonies have been

0:00:480:00:52

taking place to mark the occasion and remember those

0:00:520:00:55

who lost their lives.

0:00:550:00:57

Hinako was one of the children whose lives changed forever that day,

0:00:570:01:01

and Leah went to meet her.

0:01:010:01:05

Today in Ishinomaki, life is returning to normal.

0:01:070:01:12

But one girl who will never forget what happened that day is Hinako.

0:01:120:01:18

TRANSLATION: I was sitting somewhere around here when we felt the quake.

0:01:210:01:25

At first I didn't think it would be that big,

0:01:250:01:27

but soon I realised it would be huge.

0:01:270:01:31

We all went under desks to protect ourselves,

0:01:310:01:33

but the desks were shifting and the windows

0:01:330:01:35

were broken.

0:01:350:01:37

We all knew the earthquake wouldn't be as small as the ones

0:01:370:01:40

we were used to.

0:01:400:01:43

So, this is the room that Hinako and her friends witnessed

0:01:430:01:46

the tsunami waves rising and rising, and it was quite fast,

0:01:460:01:51

it was quite high.

0:01:510:01:54

TRANSLATION: It was shocking to see the seats and swings floating

0:01:540:01:57

in the water.

0:01:570:01:59

Rising up high enough to cover the whole slide.

0:01:590:02:02

I wondered, if I was outside at this very moment,

0:02:020:02:04

what would happen to me.

0:02:040:02:08

Hinako took us to where her old house used to be.

0:02:080:02:11

No one in the house was killed, but this empty spot

0:02:110:02:14

is all that remains.

0:02:140:02:17

This was where your home used to be.

0:02:170:02:20

Can you tell us what happened to it?

0:02:200:02:23

TRANSLATION: Ever since I was born, I lived in this house with my mum,

0:02:230:02:26

dad and big sister.

0:02:260:02:28

She was alone at home when the tsunami hit

0:02:280:02:30

the house.

0:02:300:02:32

She ran to our neighbour and saw a car being washed away

0:02:320:02:35

by the tsunami.

0:02:350:02:36

She insisted she never wanted to live around here again.

0:02:360:02:39

That's why we decided to leave the area.

0:02:390:02:42

My school friends helped me after the difficult times

0:02:420:02:44

following the tsunami.

0:02:440:02:46

I have many friends now.

0:02:460:02:48

I feel very lucky.

0:02:480:02:52

And don't forget to head online to watch Leah's special report

0:02:520:02:54

from Japan and find out exactly what happened five years ago today.

0:02:540:02:59

Planting trees around rivers could help to protect some areas

0:02:590:03:02

from flooding, according to new research.

0:03:020:03:06

A report says that tree planting could help to lower water levels

0:03:060:03:09

during floods by as much as 20%.

0:03:090:03:13

It's just one of the ideas that's being put forward to help protect

0:03:130:03:16

towns that are at risk.

0:03:160:03:19

Tourists in South America were treated to an amazing natural

0:03:190:03:22

sight when giant chunks of the Perito Moreno glacier broke

0:03:220:03:26

off in front of them in southern Argentina.

0:03:260:03:30

The glacier measures about 70 metres in height.

0:03:300:03:34

Every so often ice breaks off and crashes into Lake Argentina.

0:03:340:03:39

It was a mixed night for English clubs in the Europa League.

0:03:390:03:42

Tottenham lost 3-0 to German side Borussia Dortmund.

0:03:420:03:46

Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino meant that

0:03:460:03:50

Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg

0:03:500:03:54

of their last 16 tie.

0:03:540:03:56

Manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his team's performance.

0:03:560:04:02

Before the game, we knew it was only the first leg,

0:04:020:04:05

but we need to win it, and we did, so that is great.

0:04:050:04:09

Now, one week until the next game.

0:04:090:04:13

We know it is not easy, but we are in a good position now.

0:04:130:04:17

And we want to go to the next round.

0:04:170:04:19

And for this, we have to play again like

0:04:190:04:21

this at Manchester.

0:04:210:04:22

Make sure you join us at 8.15 to find out more about Hijarbie -

0:04:220:04:25

the massive online star.

0:04:250:04:28

She's been created by a Nigerian Muslim

0:04:280:04:31

blogger Haneefah Adam.

0:04:310:04:33

She told Newsround why it was important to her.

0:04:330:04:37

I thought that I have not really seen a doll dressed up in hijab

0:04:370:04:42

before, and I thought, why

0:04:420:04:47

not create a doll that can actually dress the way I dress?

0:04:470:04:50

And here we are.

0:04:500:04:53

That's all from me for now, I'll be back in about half an hour

0:04:530:04:56

with lots more.
