I'm Ricky kicking off your week of Newsround.

First, there's good news for tiger numbers.

They've gone up for the first time in 100 years, according

to the latest worldwide survey by conservationists.

It's thought there are now 3,890 of them in the wild,

up by nearly 700 six years ago when the last big count was done.

But the World Wildlife Fund says more needs to be done to protect

them from threats like illegal poaching and the destruction

Tigers are cats and they will breed well if they have the right space

available to them, if they have the right prey

available to them and if you protect them from poachers.

In those conditions, tiger numbers can

increase and we have seen that in some of the censuses that have been

undertaken by countries like Russia, India, Nepal, Bhutan.
