Ore here live just after 5.00pm. It's Friday, and this is Newsround

:00:21.:00:27.

taking you through to the weekend. Coming up on today's show:

:00:27.:00:34.

Too cute to ever let go? Apparently not. We find out why more and more

:00:34.:00:38.

pets are being abandoned. And will John Terry captain England

:00:38.:00:41.

in tomorrow's friendly? First, the 11th hour of the 11th

:00:41.:00:45.

day of the 11th month - at 11.00am, all across the UK, at schools,

:00:45.:00:48.

stations and shops, there was silence. People stopped talking for

:00:48.:00:51.

two minutes to remember those who've fought and died for this

:00:51.:00:56.

country. We call it Remembrance or Armistice Day. Ricky's got the

:00:56.:01:06.
:01:06.:01:35.

Let's see what these kids at the Imperial War Museum think.

:01:35.:01:41.

It really brought home the human cost of wars. I makes me feel

:01:41.:01:46.

really sad. It gives me an idea of what went on and also makes me

:01:46.:01:50.

think of modern day affairs. With the recent fighting in Afghanistan,

:01:50.:01:53.

war is often in the news. The museum is helping visitors

:01:53.:01:56.

understand the importance of Armistice Day. They have been

:01:56.:02:00.

coming in here chattering away. It starts. They go really quiet, and

:02:00.:02:08.

at the end of it, seem to be really moved by it. Remembering the

:02:08.:02:18.

sacrifices they made helps us remember the soldiers and their

:02:18.:02:24.

families. Steve was in the first Gulf War. The support the families

:02:24.:02:30.

gave to the armed forces - think about the wives, the kids - when

:02:30.:02:35.

these people made the ultimate sacrifice. Armistice Day gives us

:02:35.:02:40.

an opportunity to remember the impact war had on our lives.

:02:40.:02:45.

War can have an effect on all of us. Armistice Day is a way of showing

:02:45.:02:48.

respect while remembering all of those who have been lost.

:02:48.:02:51.

The word "armistice" means to stop fighting, and 93 years ago today,

:02:51.:03:01.
:03:01.:03:12.

World War I ended. Millions of people across the country took time

:03:12.:03:22.
:03:22.:03:33.

Then after the silence, there was more time to think about the day.

:03:33.:03:37.

You learn about the importance of the poppy and why we should

:03:37.:03:41.

remember about the people in the war. It makes you really think back

:03:41.:03:48.

to what life was like in those days, really quite frightened for them

:03:48.:03:51.

people. And if you want to know more about

:03:51.:03:54.

Remembrance Day, why people wear poppies, or even try out our

:03:54.:03:57.

Remembrance Day quiz, then head over to the Newsround website, all

:03:57.:03:59.

you need to know. Moving on, and John Terry won't

:03:59.:04:08.

captain England for tomorrow's friendly against Spain. He's being

:04:08.:04:11.

investigated by police over claims he made a racist comment to another

:04:11.:04:13.

player, Anton Ferdinand, during a game last month. Frank Lampard will

:04:13.:04:16.

wear the captain's armband instead. England boss Fabio Capello is

:04:16.:04:24.

standing by Terry for the moment. He will play against Sweden, but

:04:24.:04:31.

tomorrow will be on the bench. For me, he's innocent until found

:04:31.:04:33.

guilty. REPORTER: He's innocent until

:04:33.:04:41.

proven guilty? Yes, absolutely. looks like all that mucking around

:04:41.:04:44.

in New Zealand during the rugby World Cup was more serious than

:04:44.:04:46.

Mike Tindall thought. The player's been kicked off England's elite

:04:46.:04:51.

squad for his behaviour off the field. It pretty much means his

:04:51.:04:54.

England career is effectively over, because he'll miss next year's Six

:04:54.:04:57.

Nations tournament and the summer tour. He's also been fined 25,000.

:04:57.:05:00.

We know you love your pets, and you probably can't imagine having to

:05:00.:05:07.

give them away. But the number of cats and dogs being abandoned in

:05:07.:05:10.

the UK has risen.a lot. Animal charities say some people are so

:05:10.:05:13.

worried about money at the moment, they just can't afford to look

:05:13.:05:16.

after them. One rescue centre's which has welcomed even more furry

:05:16.:05:26.
:05:26.:05:30.

friends this year is Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London.

:05:30.:05:34.

Over the past 150 years Battersea Dogs and Cats Home has had its

:05:34.:05:39.

doors open to abandoned or stray animals, but over the past year,

:05:39.:05:43.

more and more people are coming in because they can't afford to look

:05:43.:05:49.

after their pets. In the last month, 65 dog and cat owners contacted the

:05:49.:05:55.

home because of housing or money problems, but in most cases, giving

:05:55.:06:01.

up an animal isn't a a easy choice to make. It's a very difficult they

:06:01.:06:08.

have to come to. That pet is a valued part of their family, and it

:06:08.:06:12.

is a difficult decision. We do our best to help them and ultimately

:06:12.:06:16.

help their pets that are in need. Some pet owners say it's things

:06:16.:06:19.

like rising vet bills or losing their jobs or homes that make it

:06:19.:06:25.

difficult to keep their pets. This is Sam. He's eight to nine

:06:25.:06:29.

years old. He was brought here three weeks ago when his family

:06:29.:06:32.

moved home, and they couldn't afford to take him with them, but

:06:32.:06:39.

luckily, he has been rehomed. This is just one animal home. It's

:06:40.:06:45.

takingen calls for from lots of people this year. With Christmas

:06:45.:06:51.

approaching, people are urging people to think carefully before

:06:51.:06:58.

having a pet. It's a very difficult time for so many pets and their

:06:58.:07:08.
:07:08.:07:10.

owners. Artem from Strictly Come Dasing has

:07:10.:07:19.
