Hello, I'm Hayley with a special World Cup Newsround.

0:00:080:00:11

We've got all the action from Brazil ahead of the start

0:00:110:00:14

of the tournament.

0:00:140:00:15

But for all the excitement, the build-up to the World Cup

0:00:150:00:17

hasn't been easy.

0:00:170:00:18

There have been protests over the amount of money being spent

0:00:180:00:21

on hosting the event.

0:00:210:00:22

Leah is in Rio and has sent us this report.

0:00:220:00:42

There are streets like this everywhere,

0:00:420:00:43

flags draped outside people's window sills, entire neighbourhoods

0:00:430:00:45

decorated in the colours of Brazil.

0:00:450:00:47

Looking around, it seems like people are excited about

0:00:470:00:49

the World Cup, but streets like this don't tell the whole story.

0:00:490:00:52

Last summer more than a million people took to the streets

0:00:520:00:54

to protest about the amount of public money being spent on

0:00:540:00:57

the tournament by the government.

0:00:570:00:58

It was the biggest demonstration in Brazil for 30 years.

0:00:580:01:01

This man is one of them.

0:01:010:01:02

The problem is not the World Cup itself, the way it is organised,

0:01:020:01:05

the way it is structured.

0:01:050:01:07

For instance, the whole money that was put into the stadiums and

0:01:070:01:10

everything, they could have been invested in education or health.

0:01:100:01:15

We have a lot of problems that we could solve with this money.

0:01:150:01:20

The protests are not over and we're going to return to

0:01:200:01:22

the streets and, with other movements, we want to see a change.

0:01:220:01:25

Last summer saw some of the biggest protests here in Rio

0:01:250:01:28

for a long time.

0:01:280:01:31

While there is some genuine excitement about the competition,

0:01:310:01:35

now the tournament has arrived all eyes will be waiting to see how

0:01:350:01:38

the rest of the Brazil reacts to having the World Cup on home soil.

0:01:380:01:46

Now along with shootouts and hope and despair, this World Cup

0:01:460:01:48

promises a number of new things.

0:01:480:01:51

It's the first time goal-line technology will be used and there's

0:01:510:01:54

some other more unusual changes too, here's BBC Sport's Dan Walker.

0:01:540:02:09

Not shaving foam everybody, free-kick foam.

0:02:090:02:11

Let me show you how it works.

0:02:110:02:12

Because, let's say you get a free-kick here.

0:02:120:02:14

The referee will then pace out 10 yards and then, with his magic

0:02:140:02:17

little bottle, will mark a line on the pitch to tell the opposition

0:02:170:02:20

they cannot pass that line.

0:02:200:02:22

The crazy things is, that is vanishing foam.

0:02:220:02:23

So in a couple of minutes it will all disappear without a trace.

0:02:230:02:27

You lot have been telling us how much you've been looking forward to

0:02:270:02:30

the World Cup, starting on the website.

0:02:300:02:31

Lucy, in London, says:

0:02:310:02:36

Zoe, in Aylesbury, says:

0:02:360:02:43

Finally, using sea creatures as fortune-tellers seems to be

0:02:430:02:45

turning into a World Cup tradition.

0:02:450:02:47

Meet Big Head, the sea turtle, who made a prediction

0:02:470:02:49

for the opening match.

0:02:490:02:50

Surprise, surprise he seems to have chosen Brazil.

0:02:500:02:54

That's all from me.

0:02:540:02:55

Newsround's back tomorrow morning from 7.40am with even more

0:02:550:02:57

from the World Cup.

0:02:570:02:58

Goodnight.
