But there was some violence off the pitch between Russian

The people in charge of European football,

England failed to start another major turn and without a victory

last night. Despite dominating the first half, they couldn't really put

away any of their chances. In the second half, England came closest

with this strike by Wayne Rooney, but that was saved spectacularly

wider Russian kicker. Spurs midfielder Eric Dyer produced this

with 17 minutes to go. That was short lived because in injury time

this happens. Danny Rose was beaten. At the final whistle, was trouble

between the crowds in the stadium. This comes after days of violence

between some Russian, English and French fans and riot police. Uefa,

the governing body that runs this competition and European football,

saying they will investigate what happens inside the stadium last

night. They also say there is no place for fighting in football.

The Eiffel Tower was lit up in the Welsh colours last night

to celebrate their opening match success at Euro 2016.

Jenny was at the match yesterday and sent us this report.

It was always going to be a historic day in Bordeaux. The stadium was in

pristine condition, ready and waiting for the battle of two teams,

Slovakia and Wales. Two countries both making their first ever

appearance in the European Championships. Welsh hopes and

dreams were relying heavily on their star player, Gareth Bales. Could

there are leading the scoring qualification deliver when his

country needed him the most? It was a frantic start with Slovakia nearly

taking an early lead, but it didn't happen thanks to a heroic appearance

by Ben Davies. Ten minutes then, Wells won a free kick. Guess who?

The moment Welsh bands had been dreaming of. Gareth Bales delivered

when it mattered most. After the start of the second half, Slovakia

stepped it up a gear and were rewarded for their efforts. Manager

Chris Coleman decided to make some substitutions to get his five fresh

legs. While pushed and pushed for a winner, and their persistence paid

off. Welsh bands were sent into celebration. What a moment. History

made. That is it. Wales have just won their first ever match in the

European championship, beating Slovakia 2-1. It was tense,

exciting. The fans are clearly delighted. I can still hear them

singing. This evening it's the turn

of Northern Ireland. They face Poland at the Stade de

Nice at 5pm. It's their first

European Championship. Fans out there are

absolutely loving it. BBC Sports' Katie Gornall caught up

with some of them. Is there anyone left in Northern

Ireland? I don't think so. I think we are all on the planes, boats,

trends. It's been fabulous, unreal. The place is buzzing. We are wee

country but a passionate wee country.
