And welcome to a rather special Newsround.

:00:00.:00:00.

All about a very exciting space mission!

:00:07.:00:14.

Mission control to Newsround, keep watching, you don't want to miss

:00:15.:00:21.

this. Five, four, three, two, one, liftoff.

:00:22.:00:27.

Hello, I'm Hayley and I'm live for you in Moscow, Russia.

:00:28.:00:29.

That's about 2000 miles away from where you are now.

:00:30.:00:32.

The reason I'm here is to meet the first British astronaut to

:00:33.:00:36.

rocket to the International Space Station, Major Tim Peake,

:00:37.:00:40.

before he goes on a mission that no other Brit has ever done before.

:00:41.:01:03.

Yesterday, I got a stick peek inside and spoke to the main man himself.

:01:04.:01:10.

First training exercise of the day, Tim gets suited up and is joined

:01:11.:01:14.

They spent years training and now blast off is only a few weeks away.

:01:15.:01:20.

Tim, it is your last day of training, what are you doing?

:01:21.:01:23.

The job today is undocking from the space station

:01:24.:01:27.

Tim goes to the shuttle to test his capabilities.

:01:28.:01:39.

They're going through simulation to see what it is

:01:40.:01:42.

like to remove themselves from the space station and return to

:01:43.:01:45.

it, so whatever he is going through now will be what he does in space.

:01:46.:01:51.

In between, Tim did get time to speak to us.

:01:52.:02:05.

This is where he will be eating and speaking. Check this out, this is

:02:06.:02:13.

his tireless. He'll be learning how to use all the controls and this is

:02:14.:02:17.

where you will do his science experiments. When he wants to access

:02:18.:02:22.

the rest of the space station, he will do through this hob.

:02:23.:02:27.

Tim, I've been in the replica space station which is cramped.

:02:28.:02:30.

The space station feels cramped, you get used to it.

:02:31.:02:35.

How do you think this will change your life?

:02:36.:02:42.

It is a wonderful experience and my ambition is to share it with

:02:43.:02:46.

And also to use it to contribute to the future programmes.

:02:47.:02:53.

We are looking at going to the Moon and Mars.

:02:54.:02:56.

Tell me, what is the deal with your weekends.

:02:57.:03:01.

We do get weekends, Saturday morning we have to clean the house.

:03:02.:03:09.

We have to get the vacuum cleaner outcome all the filters,

:03:10.:03:13.

Nothing falls, dust doesn't fall like on Earth.

:03:14.:03:20.

We have to vacuum all those grills out.

:03:21.:03:31.

Who cleans the toilet? We take it in turns, it comes up on the schedule.

:03:32.:03:41.

Good luck with that. Tim will spend time in quarantine, like a sealed

:03:42.:03:45.

house to make sure he doesn't take any germs or infections with him to

:03:46.:03:49.

the space station. I've seen some of the training ten has been doing

:03:50.:03:55.

here, but he has told me not of it compared to how you will actually

:03:56.:04:02.

feel living in outer space -- Tim. The first time you get a look back

:04:03.:04:05.

on planet Earth will be the most wonderful experience.

:04:06.:04:08.

Well, it's not just Tim who's excited.

:04:09.:04:11.

Loads of you guys have been in touch with us here at Newsround.

:04:12.:04:14.

You've sent us the questions you want to know about Tim's Mission.

:04:15.:04:17.

So yesterday, I put some of them to him.

:04:18.:04:19.

OK, so, Tim, how do you feel about being

:04:20.:04:22.

the first British astronaut to head to the International Space Station?

:04:23.:04:24.

I'm really proud to be the first Brit going to the space station.

:04:25.:04:29.

Of course I was also inspired by Helen Sharman, who was our first

:04:30.:04:32.

British astronaut in space, but what I am really excited about this time

:04:33.:04:35.

is the UK government is now involved in space flight, which is very

:04:36.:04:38.

exciting for all of our future scientists and engineers.

:04:39.:04:40.

And what are you most looking forward to and most dreading

:04:41.:04:43.

Mya, I am most looking forward to the view of planet Earth.

:04:44.:04:52.

We have a wonderful Earth-facing window, so to go there and actually

:04:53.:04:55.

watch the earth go by itself at 17,000 mph is going to be wonderful.

:04:56.:04:58.

Probably not having a hot shower for six months.

:04:59.:05:04.

Will it be hard to spend Christmas away from your family?

:05:05.:05:06.

Libby, yes, Christmas is a family time and it

:05:07.:05:10.

But it is also a unique experience to have Christmas up in space,

:05:11.:05:16.

and I will also get the chance to share it with them via

:05:17.:05:19.

Where do you sleep, says Finley in Coventry?

:05:20.:05:23.

Finley, four of the astronauts in the space

:05:24.:05:26.

station sleep in the front section, if you like, and two Russians sleep

:05:27.:05:30.

My crew quarter will be up in the deck.

:05:31.:05:40.

Just in case you don't know enough about Tim's mission, make sure you

:05:41.:05:43.

check out the Newsround website, where you can see everything you

:05:44.:05:45.

need to know about the International Space Station, and see some of the

:05:46.:05:48.

best space walks from astronauts up there.

:05:49.:05:50.

On the 15th December, Tim Peak sets off into space,

:05:51.:05:53.

and I'm sure we'll be hearing more from him from then on in.

:05:54.:05:56.

But make sure you watch the Newsround website

:05:57.:05:58.

for much more stuff from Star City and more of your questioned answered

:05:59.:06:02.
