Hi, guys, we're live, it's just after five and you're watching | :00:19. | :00:23.
Newsround with Ore and Ricky. We have got everything you need to | :00:23. | :00:26.
know and more on the way. Stay tuned for all of this. | :00:26. | :00:28.
The little pop career that's been launched on some little-known | :00:28. | :00:32.
talent show. And ahead of a huge year in the USA, | :00:32. | :00:35.
I packed by bags and travelled to the states for an American road | :00:35. | :00:37.
trip. But first, how do you like your | :00:37. | :00:42.
eggs in the morning? And we're not talking scrambled, poached or fried. | :00:42. | :00:45.
Over 30 million eggs are eaten every day in Britain, more than | :00:45. | :00:49.
half of them from hens that live in cages, a lot of which aren't much | :00:49. | :00:53.
bigger than an A4 piece of paper. They're called battery cages and | :00:53. | :00:57.
from next year they'll be banned in Britain and the rest of Europe. | :00:57. | :01:00.
Some cages are still allowed, but chickens will have more space and | :01:00. | :01:02.
places to perch and nest. Leah's got the story. | :01:02. | :01:06.
You might like to think your eggs come from hens like this, but lots | :01:06. | :01:09.
of them come from battery farms like this. Under the old rules, | :01:09. | :01:12.
chickens were packed into cages with just this much space to move | :01:12. | :01:18.
around. They couldn't flap their wings and they had nowhere to nest | :01:18. | :01:21.
or perch. Under the new rules, they're still allowed to live in | :01:21. | :01:26.
cages, but they'll have a bit more space. Animal rights groups are | :01:26. | :01:35.
pleased about the ban. It is excellent news. It means millions | :01:35. | :01:39.
or hundreds of millions of hens will no longer be kept in small | :01:39. | :01:43.
cages. Up until a few months ago, this farm in Cheshire had thousands | :01:43. | :01:52.
of hens in battery cages. This is still a cage. All of the hens have | :01:52. | :01:57.
access to the perch spacious, about 15 centimetres of space for each | :01:58. | :02:02.
bird. They also have a nest box where all the eggs will be laid to | :02:02. | :02:06.
imitate what happens in nature. all eggs come from caged hens. Some | :02:06. | :02:09.
eggs are free range, which means the birds can roam around. But eggs | :02:09. | :02:13.
like these are more expensive to produce. Under the law, any eggs | :02:13. | :02:16.
you buy have to have a label on them saying what kind of hens they | :02:16. | :02:20.
came from. Some big supermarkets have actually stopped selling eggs | :02:20. | :02:23.
from caged hens completely, but animal rights groups say more needs | :02:23. | :02:27.
to be done. They say they'll continue to fight for an all-out | :02:27. | :02:31.
ban, but for now the cages are here to stay. | :02:31. | :02:36.
Now, here's a man with a big year ahead of him. Barack Obama, | :02:36. | :02:39.
President of the United States, and one of the most powerful and famous | :02:39. | :02:44.
men in the world. But in the next 12 months, all that could change. | :02:44. | :02:47.
It's the American elections next year and with lots of people there | :02:47. | :02:50.
facing a tough time right now, Obama has a real battle on his | :02:50. | :02:54.
hands. I've travelled from Obama's home town, Chicago, all the way to | :02:54. | :02:57.
Washington DC to find out what Americans think of their president. | :02:57. | :03:07.
:03:07. | :03:10. | ||
When Barack Obama became President of the United States of America, a | :03:10. | :03:15.
lot of people for change was on its way. It was an historic moment and | :03:15. | :03:18.
many Americans can remember exactly where they were on that famous | :03:18. | :03:25.
night. He gave ordinary people something very important, hope. | :03:25. | :03:31.
Because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining | :03:31. | :03:41.
:03:41. | :03:41. | ||
moment, change has come to America. It started going crazy. It was | :03:41. | :03:48.
amazing to think how one man can bring all of these people together. | :03:48. | :03:52.
120 million people turned out to cast their vote. Some of them had | :03:52. | :03:56.
never voted before and it gave Barack Obama the biggest election | :03:56. | :04:02.
victory for more than 40 years. This is where our road trip starts, | :04:02. | :04:07.
in a very cold Chicago. It is also where Barack Obama's journey to the | :04:07. | :04:10.
White House began and we will follow that route to find out what | :04:10. | :04:13.
Americans think of the President three years on because so far he's | :04:13. | :04:18.
not had any easy ride. It was here that Barack Obama gave that famous | :04:18. | :04:23.
speech before he became one of the most powerful people in the world. | :04:23. | :04:27.
Things have changed three years on. His first three years in charge | :04:27. | :04:31.
have been hard. He has struggled to make things happen and make changes | :04:31. | :04:34.
for top people have said he has not lived up to what they expected and | :04:34. | :04:39.
with less than a year to go before America decides if they want him to | :04:39. | :04:44.
carry on as President, some say America is more divided than ever. | :04:44. | :04:48.
This week I will be hearing both sides of the story, meeting the | :04:48. | :04:52.
people who still have faith in the President, those living in some of | :04:52. | :04:55.
the poorest areas of the country and that people who think it is | :04:55. | :05:00.
time for a change. Tomorrow I'll be finding out what it means to have a | :05:00. | :05:07.
black President in one of the JLS couldn't do it, neither could | :05:07. | :05:10.
the One Direction boys. But these girls did. Little Mix have become | :05:10. | :05:13.
the first ever group to snatch The X Factor crown. But despite this | :05:14. | :05:16.
year's series making history, the show hasn't gone down such a hit | :05:17. | :05:24.
with viewers, as I've been finding out. The winner of the X factor | :05:24. | :05:27.

this was the moment Little Mix triumphed over super smiley | :05:30. | :05:39.

so great form and thankful to everybody that voted and everybody | :05:45. | :05:52.
Jade, Jesy, Perrie and Leigh-Anne have come a long way since being | :05:52. | :05:56.
put together by the judges at bootcamp. They've had to deal with | :05:56. | :05:59.
negative online comments aimed at Jesy and there was the name change | :05:59. | :06:02.
from Rhythmix to Little Mix. But despite Tulisa's girls making | :06:02. | :06:09.
history, this year's X Factor has It's been knocked down the Saturday | :06:09. | :06:12.
night leaderboard several times by Strictly. And even though 15 | :06:12. | :06:15.
million viewers tuned in to watch the final last night, it's four | :06:16. | :06:19.
million fewer than last year - the least watched X Factor final since | :06:19. | :06:24.

Louis Walsh reckons Little Mix are the next big UK girl group. But | :06:36. | :06:39.
they'll have to see off the competition from The Saturdays and | :06:39. | :06:42.
Sugababes and break the winner's curse felt by the likes of Leon | :06:42. | :06:46.
Jackson and Shayne Ward. The first challenge, though, is bagging the | :06:46. | :06:49.
Christmas number one with the winner's single, Cannonball. That | :06:49. | :06:59.

stage! You've been talking about this on | :07:03. | :07:10.
the web. Sophie says she thinks X- Factor got fewer viewers because | :07:10. | :07:13.
strictly had good contenders this year. | :07:13. | :07:17.
Some el-Sayed I think more people are watching Strictly Come Dancing | :07:17. | :07:21. |
