Hi, I'm Hayley, coming
up on Newsround: | 0:00:04 | 0:00:08
A spy mystery involving
Russia and the UK. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:12
A Chinese clay army
on display in Liverpool | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
And... | 0:00:14 | 0:00:20
The hostel where you can
pretend to be an astronaut! | 0:00:20 | 0:00:28
Officials in Russia are being asked
to explain what they know | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
about happened to a former spy who's
been hurt here in the UK. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
Ayshah has more on this. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
This is Sergei Skripal,
he's from Russia and was jailed | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
there more than ten years
ago for being a spy, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
but he was released and now lives
here in the UK in Salisbury. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:55
Just over a week ago,
he was found on a bench | 0:00:55 | 0:01:03
in the city centre along
with his 33-year-old daughter Yulia. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
They were both very poorly. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
It's thought they'd been
poisoned deliberately. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
It's also thought a policeman
was affected by the poison | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
after going to help find
out what happened. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
He's in hospital too. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
Skripal spied on Russia,
where he's from, for Great Britain | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
and that's why many people think
he's been hurt. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
The British Prime Minister
says the poison used | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
to attack him was made in Russia. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
The Government has concluded
that it is highly likely that Russia | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
was responsible for the act
against Sergei and Yulia Skripal. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:36
But a member of the Russian
government says that's rubbish. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
Theresa May says Russia has
until midnight to explain | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
properly what happened. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:45
Skripal and his daughter had been
to a restaurant in a pub that day. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
People who'd also been there have
been told to wash the clothes | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
they were wearing and any items
they had with them. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Health experts say the risk
to the public is low though. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
Emergency services and army experts
are investigating and helping | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
to keep people safe. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:08
OK history fans,
stick around for this, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
we're heading to Liverpool to see
an ancient underground army | 0:02:10 | 0:02:17
that's been kept hidden
for thousands of years. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
Martin s got this. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
This is the Terracotta Army. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
It was buried deep underground
secretly guarding the tomb | 0:02:22 | 0:02:27
of China's first Emperor
for more than 2,000 years, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:31
until it was discovered by accident
as farmers dug the land. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:37
The tomb belonged to
Emperior Qin Shi Huang, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
the founder of the Chinese empire,
who had many enemies. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
He believed that these full-size
clay soldiers would protect him | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
in the next life after he died. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
Now, they've been carefully brought
back to the surface and repaired | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
for everyone to see. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
But you don't have to go all the way
to China to see them, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
some of them are right
here in Liverpool. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
So these kids have been
to check them out. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
How long did it take to make
the terracotta warriors? | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
We don't know exactly
how long it took | 0:03:04 | 0:03:12
to make one warrior
but, as you can see, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
they are so detailed
and elaborate, I imagine | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
it would have taken quite some
time to make each one. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
Each part of the body
was made separately, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
so the legs and feet were made,
and they were solid clay. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
Because they're so heavy, the base
of them had to be quite steady. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
Who were the strongest warriors? | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29
The warriors are all soldiers
who were ready to fight in battle, | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
but in another pit nearby
were figures that the emperor had | 0:03:32 | 0:03:34
made to entertain him
in the afterlife, and in that pit | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37
were acrobats and strongmen,
and the strongmen figures | 0:03:37 | 0:03:39
had really big muscles,
so I imagine they were | 0:03:39 | 0:03:41
meant to be very strong. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
So, what do they make of the army? | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45
I'm so amazed how big
the terracotta warriors are. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
I like how they look
and they've got armour on, | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
they look really detailed. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
When I imagined what they would look
like, I wasn't expecting them | 0:03:53 | 0:03:56
to be a really big size. | 0:03:56 | 0:03:58
I think it's actually really
impressive that they came from China | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
all the way to Liverpool and that
they're still in really | 0:04:00 | 0:04:03
good shape and condition. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:11
Thanks, guys. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
And if you've ever wanted
to experience staying in space | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
but don't fancy the long rocket
flight, then check out | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
the 'Subspace' hostel in Croatia. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:19
Croatia's first space capsule hotel
has just won an award for the best | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
hostel in Eastern Europe. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:23
Guests get to feel like they're
on board a spaceship | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
with all the gadgets and gizmos
and of course the | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
cramped living space. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:30
The tiny bedrooms are called
capsules, they're only two metres | 0:04:30 | 0:04:33
long and are 1.2 metres
wide and high. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:35
That's about the size
of your school desk, | 0:04:35 | 0:04:37
but they manage to squeeze in a bed,
a monitor, a safe | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
and a mirror there. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:48
There's no windows or natural light,
but you can see the stars | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
and planets painted on your ceiling. | 0:04:54 | 0:04:56
So you can imagine you're flying
through space when in fact you've | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
not moved and cannot move further
than a few steps. | 0:04:59 | 0:05:01 |
