First, it is Children in Need on Friday, and many of you will be | :00:52. | :00:55.
getting ready to help raise money for the big event. But today | :00:55. | :00:58.
charities have revealed there has been a huge fall in donations | :00:58. | :01:08.
:01:08. | :01:08. | ||
across the UK in the last year. The UK has been suffering from big- | :01:08. | :01:13.
money problems, so people have less cash to give. Charities say it is | :01:13. | :01:16.
worrying and are launching a campaign to encourage people to | :01:16. | :01:26.
:01:26. | :01:30. | ||
Last year Children in Need raised more than 26 million on the night, | :01:30. | :01:33.
but since June 2011 and the charities in the UK have not been | :01:33. | :01:39.
doing so well. According to a new report, donations have fallen by | :01:39. | :01:44.
20%, a loss of around 1.7 billion. It is the smaller charities that | :01:44. | :01:48.
have been hit the hardest, and they rely on the money to do important | :01:48. | :01:53.
work. I have come to a charity in Manchester, a mentoring charity | :01:53. | :01:57.
with hundreds of volunteers, looking after underprivileged kids. | :01:58. | :02:02.
At the moment we have 500 mentors every week going out to schools in | :02:02. | :02:06.
disadvantaged areas. We will have to have fewer mentors because it is | :02:07. | :02:11.
very expensive. Driving then there is a logistical nightmare and it is | :02:11. | :02:18.
expensive, but we have to do it. The study found that not only are | :02:18. | :02:22.
fewer people giving money but the amount they get a smaller, too. On | :02:22. | :02:26.
average, people are donating 1 less per month compared to the | :02:26. | :02:31.
before. It all adds up. The group behind the report has launched a | :02:31. | :02:37.
campaign to help charities survive the tough times. They want to | :02:37. | :02:40.
encourage the public, businesses and the government to give more to | :02:40. | :02:45.
places like this charity. Do you think these new campaigns to | :02:45. | :02:49.
support two more will make a difference to your charity? | :02:49. | :02:54.
Undoubtedly, because it is like the Olympics, it creates well beyond | :02:54. | :02:58.
what it was intended to create. It makes people aware they can do | :02:58. | :03:03.
something. It might be small, but if millions of people do that, at | :03:03. | :03:06.
the impact is bigger. A lot of people are having money problems, | :03:07. | :03:10.
and it is the smaller charities that are feeling the pinch. They | :03:10. | :03:15.
hope that things will start to improve. | :03:15. | :03:17.
And while we're talking about raising money, anyone out there in | :03:17. | :03:24.
their PJs already? I wish I was! Our Joe had a bit of a shock over | :03:25. | :03:27.
on the CBBC Channel this morning. Halfway through a live Newsround | :03:27. | :03:37.
:03:37. | :03:42. | ||
Sorry to interrupt! You know that this is live? We are bringing you | :03:42. | :03:47.
the news. Why are you wearing pyjamas? We are here to tell you | :03:47. | :03:51.
about our appeal, we are asking everybody to get into their pyjamas | :03:51. | :03:56.
and do things for Children in Need, organised a sponsored walk, a | :03:56. | :04:00.
sponsored silence. We have got the ball was riding in their pyjamas. | :04:00. | :04:05.
We have seen where the money goes and how it helps. We thought we | :04:05. | :04:12.
would bring this along for you. What is this about a world record? | :04:12. | :04:22.
Yes, we did a world record attempt, 300 children in a line, that was | :04:22. | :04:26.
his own! So we can help by wearing pyjamas? | :04:26. | :04:33.
That is quite fetching! If you want to get involved, go to the Blue | :04:33. | :04:36.
Peter and Children in Need websites for sponsorship forms and tell them | :04:36. | :04:40.
how you're going to go Pajama crazy. Next, it was supposed to be top- | :04:40. | :04:42.
secret information, but a Royal Navy submariner has admitted | :04:42. | :04:45.
collecting highly confidential codewords and passwords that, if he | :04:45. | :04:51.
had passed them on, could have been useful to an enemy of the UK. Petty | :04:51. | :04:54.
Officer Edward Devenney breached the Official Secrets Act, which is | :04:54. | :04:57.
part of the law that protects top- secret security of the country. He | :04:57. | :05:07.

Next up, it sounds like the plot of an adventure movie. It has come out | :05:08. | :05:12.
that a thief has managed to break in and steal a set of keys to the | :05:12. | :05:15.
Tower of London. The burglary happened early in the morning with | :05:15. | :05:20.
the thief stealing keys to the tower restaurant and a drawbridge. | :05:20. | :05:27.
But he was stopped before he got close to the inside of the palace. | :05:27. | :05:31.
This place is supposed to be so safe that the Queen keeps the crown | :05:31. | :05:40.
jewels there, but bosses say the locks have now been changed. | :05:40. | :05:44.
Millions of people around the world are preparing for the Bali, the | :05:44. | :05:49.
festival of light. It lasts for five days, and you can expects lots | :05:49. | :05:56.

Now to a very lucky little fella. This koala bear has been rescued | :07:19. | :07:22.
from a major bushfire in South Australia. About 100 firefighters | :07:22. | :07:25.
have been battling the blaze which has destroyed some homes and land. | :07:25. | :07:30.
It is not clear how it started. The injured koala was found in a burnt | :07:30. | :07:33.
tree by a local resident, who gave it some water before it was taken | :07:33. | :07:43.
