Hi, I'm Martin and
this is Newsround. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
First up, we're heading
to a galaxy far, far away. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
Get your lightsabers ready,
because Star Wars is back! | 0:00:17 | 0:00:22
Ayshah's got more. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:22
Watch out for the flashes. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
Newsround, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
may the Force be with you. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
I only know one truth. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:36
It's time for the Jedi to end. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:41
Guess where we are,
we are at the Star Wars | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
European premiere! | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
CHEERING | 0:00:45 | 0:00:53
I used to watch
Newsround all the time. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
What do they have to look forward
to in this movie from you? | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
Some fun fights. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:07
Some fun creatures I get
to work with, and, some | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
fun new spaceships. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
They are the real fun stuff. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
What does this film mean
for the new generation of fans? | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
These films from the beginning
were meant for children. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
People forget that. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
They say no, it is for
48-year-old nerds. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
No, it's for children. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
It just so happens that it appeals
to the child in all of us, I | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
guess. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:39
I was seven when I first saw
Star Wars, and Princess | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
Leia meant the world to me,
because I hadn't seen many | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
iconic female superheroes. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
And now I get to be part of a group,
a tribe of very powerful | 0:01:46 | 0:01:50
female characters. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
I've got my nephews here
who are young and they | 0:01:57 | 0:02:02
are passionate Star Wars fans,
and they are the children | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
of my brother who's nearly 50,
and he is the world's | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
greatest Star Wars fan. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:08
So it is for such a wide audience. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Despite the fact that
I am in it, I think | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
it is one of the best
Star Wars films ever made. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:21
What will you be doing
on Christmas Eve? | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
Watching festive films? | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
Maybe putting out a mince pie
for Father Christmas? | 0:02:24 | 0:02:29
Well, these boys have a very
important job to do before they can | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
go to bed - singing for people
all around the world! | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
Let's meet them. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
Hi, Newsround. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
We sing in King's College Choir, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
which started over 500
years ago. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:47
Christmas is a very special time
for us, because we sing | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
in a service called
Nine Lessons and Carols. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:54
And it takes place right here, in
King's College Chapel in Cambridge, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
it first took place in 1918. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
This service is broadcast live on | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
the radio on Christmas Eve
and millions of people listen to it | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
every year. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
The service starts with a boy
singing a solo of Once In | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
Royal David's City. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
Nobody knows who's going
to do the solo until | 0:03:11 | 0:03:16
right before it begins,
when the conductor points | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
at somebody to do it. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:24
Before the service, I feel
excited and nervous. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
Yeah, it's all mixed
emotions, really. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
There is always something
to help you with | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
your nerves. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:32
I usually take really deep
breaths and think about how | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
amazing the service
is going to sound. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:44
I also love how I can just imagine,
when we are singing, people | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
just smiling on the other
side of the radio. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:49
Before the service I feel proud
to sing with this choir, | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
because it's really, really famous. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
I feel really Christmassy, because
it's just really building up to | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
Christmas. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:58
We can't wait for Christmas Eve. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
Merry Christmas, Newsround! | 0:04:00 | 0:04:03
Next, lots of you will probably
bring in a Christmas present | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
for your teacher on the last day
before the holidays. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:10
But some kids in Falkirk in Scotland
have been told not to, | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
because the local council has
stopped allowing it! | 0:04:13 | 0:04:17
The council say they've
decided this because not | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
all families have the money,
or want to buy | 0:04:19 | 0:04:21
presents for teachers. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:22
But some kids and parents
aren't happy about it. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
And we want you to get in touch
and tell us if you think buying | 0:04:25 | 0:04:29
teachers Christmas presents
is a good idea or not. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:31
Head online to let us know. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:33
0:04:33 | 0:04:39 | ||
Imagine this - your
team's drawing 1-1. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
Then you get the ball,
you pass it across, and... | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
Your team mate completely
misses an open goal! | 0:04:43 | 0:04:45
This shocker from Wolfsburg forward
Divock Origi yesterday | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
is in the running for miss
of the year! | 0:04:47 | 0:04:49
Awkward! | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
That's all from me but Newsround
is back with more top stories | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
tomorrow from 0740. | 0:04:55 | 0:05:02 |
