Coming up, I've been meeting kids badly affected by the extreme | :00:24. | :00:32.
weather. The water was so high. It was up to hear on me. And away from | :00:33. | :00:40.
the floods, could Team GB be about to win the gold medal at the Winter | :00:41. | :00:51.
Olympics? This is a Newsround. Welcome to a very special Newsround. | :00:52. | :00:55.
We are live at the flood hit Thames Valley, just one part of the UK that | :00:56. | :00:59.
has been hit by some of the most extraordinary wet and wild weather | :01:00. | :01:03.
the UK has seen for many, many years. Once again, heavy storms are | :01:04. | :01:13.
pounding across the UK. What a start to 2014. Parts of the Somerset | :01:14. | :01:16.
Levels have been under water for weeks. Places like Cumbria, North | :01:17. | :01:20.
West Wales and Worcester have been badly hit by strong wind and rain. | :01:21. | :01:26.
There are still 17 severe flood warnings in parts of | :01:27. | :01:30.
Gloucestershire, Somerset and here in Berkshire, meaning a serious risk | :01:31. | :01:35.
to people's safety. Here in Datchet, the water has actually | :01:36. | :01:39.
receded but there are still sandbags everywhere. So what is it like to | :01:40. | :01:42.
live in the middle of a flood hit area? | :01:43. | :01:51.
Outside my house it is just water. What has a family been doing? | :01:52. | :01:57.
Boiling water to drink. You are not allowed to use the taps, the toilet, | :01:58. | :02:02.
the shower, the bathroom. We can't get down the road because the water | :02:03. | :02:06.
is so high. It comes up to hear on me. All of the stuff downstairs, the | :02:07. | :02:15.
TV, the tables, chairs, they are upstairs in the play room. What does | :02:16. | :02:20.
your back garden look like? There is flooding whether climbing frame is. | :02:21. | :02:26.
What does your road look like? It has brown water and all of the bins | :02:27. | :02:29.
have been knocked over so all of the rubbish is floating down our road. | :02:30. | :02:39.
And my brother's nappies. They are floating down the road as well. That | :02:40. | :02:45.
is absolutely horrible. What are some of the good things you have | :02:46. | :02:48.
seen your neighbours or your friends doing, or things you have heard | :02:49. | :02:53.
about? Well, our neighbour next door has been really nice, going round | :02:54. | :02:59.
all the houses knocking on the doors and saying, do you need any milk or | :03:00. | :03:04.
bread? We have loads of old people around so he is helping them. Well, | :03:05. | :03:09.
there were even some royal guests helping out here in Berkshire. | :03:10. | :03:14.
Princes William and Harry were in Datchet this morning, dressed in | :03:15. | :03:18.
waterproofs and wellies, helping soldiers unload sandbags. Over the | :03:19. | :03:23.
past week or so we have heard from lots of you who have been struggling | :03:24. | :03:28.
among the floods. Gemma and Emily told us how they have been going to | :03:29. | :03:33.
school by boat. Charlotte's house is surrounded by water and she is doing | :03:34. | :03:37.
what she can to stop her house being flooded. And Ellie and her mates | :03:38. | :03:43.
sent this video message to show how they are being affected. This is our | :03:44. | :03:50.
story of the floods. This is my usual route to school but it no | :03:51. | :03:58.
longer exists. This car park is now a summing pool. Usually we would | :03:59. | :04:02.
spend all our free time in the park, but there is no chance of that any | :04:03. | :04:11.
time soon. Thanks, guys. We still want to hear your flood stories. | :04:12. | :04:15.
It's easy to get in touch on the website where our dedicated team | :04:16. | :04:18.
have got the floods well and truly covered. There is loads of info. | :04:19. | :04:24.
Find out how to stay safe in the flood water and catch the report on | :04:25. | :04:27.
a primary school that has been turned into an emergency centre. | :04:28. | :04:31.
That is all from me at the moment. Jenny is in the studio with the | :04:32. | :04:36.
other news. Great Britain could have its first | :04:37. | :04:39.
Winter Olympics champion at Sochi in the next couple of hours. They are | :04:40. | :04:44.
top of the pack at the halfway point of the skeleton event. In the past | :04:45. | :04:48.
half-hour, she set a new track record. A volcano has forced | :04:49. | :04:52.
thousands of people in Indonesia in south-east Asia to leave their | :04:53. | :04:56.
homes. It erupted, chucking out ash, which has covered towns and | :04:57. | :05:01.
villages. Welcome back to Datchet. Ellie, | :05:02. | :05:05.
Chloe, Jake and Max are here with me. Thanks for the great video you | :05:06. | :05:11.
sent. How has the week been? It has been very tough as we had to | :05:12. | :05:16.
evacuate our house, as our house is almost in the flood, if you injure | :05:17. | :05:21.
is away from actually getting into the house. The water seems to have | :05:22. | :05:25.
been going down. How are you feeling about it now? We are quite relieved | :05:26. | :05:31.
that it is not going to come into the house, we hope. After last time | :05:32. | :05:37.
it did suddenly come back up. Thank you very much for joining us. That | :05:38. | :05:42.
is all from Newsround. Don't forget, there is loads of great stuff on the | :05:43. | :05:44.
website. | :05:45. | :05:46. |
