Hey, everyone, I'm Ayshah. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:11
This morning, Newsround is looking at the big vote that's got | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
the whole country talking. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
In eight days' time, adults are being asked to decide | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
if the UK should stay in, or leave a club of countries | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
called the European Union. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
So Ricky's travelled to Poland to find out more | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
about one of the biggest issues - immigration. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:33
Welcome to Warsaw, the capital of Poland. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
It's a really busy city, around 2 million people live here. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
There are loads of tourists, coffee shops and interesting buildings. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
And behind me is the old town, completely devastated by bombing | 0:00:44 | 0:00:49
during the Second World War, and over time it's been rebuilt. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:54
Just like the UK, Poland is a member of the European Union, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
otherwise known as the EU. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
Over the last 12 years, since they joined the group | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
of countries, hundreds of thousands of people have left Poland | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
and moved to the UK. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
That's called immigration, when people decide | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
to go to a different country to live and work. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
More on that in just a little bit, but first I have been travelling | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
around Warsaw and speaking to kids about what life is like | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
here in Poland and what they think of the UK. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
We're heading to Warsaw, which is the capital of Poland. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
'The seat belt signs have been switched on.' | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
I think that Poland is beautiful. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
There is amazing food and amazing views. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:38
A lot of hard-working people. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
Cold in winter, hot in summer. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
I love my country, I want to stay here for my life. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
Since Poland joined the EU in 2004 thousands of people have moved | 0:01:48 | 0:01:55
from here to the United Kingdom. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
It is thought there are almost 800,000 Poles living in the UK. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:03
That's because there's an agreement between all the countries | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
inside the European Union to make it easier for people to move around, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:11
live and work in other EU countries. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
I actually love the United Kingdom, and I would love | 0:02:14 | 0:02:21
to one day be there. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
London is really beautiful and one of the most important | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
cities on the Earth. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:25
When I think of the UK, I think | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
of British accents. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
Top Gear. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
The Beatles. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
The weather is rainy. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
One Direction. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
Tea, a cup of tea. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:38
So, back to that big vote. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:43
Well, a lot is being said on both sides when it comes to immigration. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
Campaigners who want the UK to leave the European Union say the number | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
of people arriving from other EU countries, including Poland, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:54
is getting out of control. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:58
Those who want the UK to stay in, disagree. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
They say immigrants do help pay towards things like hospitals, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
schools and other public services. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
Leave campaigners believe that if we quit the EU, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
the UK will have more control over who can enter the country. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
But the Remain camp say that isn't true. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:18
Over the last few weeks, you may have heard loads | 0:03:18 | 0:03:22
of different arguments about what might happen if the UK | 0:03:22 | 0:03:27
was to leave or stay in the European Union. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
No one knows exactly what would happen, but those big | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
decisions could have a big impact on you, and other children | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
in the EU club of countries. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
Well, I've been speaking to teams here in Warsaw to find | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
out what they think. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
THEY SPEAK POLISH | 0:03:44 | 0:03:46
Welcome to Poland. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
What you think people in the UK think of Polish people? | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
I think that the English people should see Polish people as smart, | 0:03:53 | 0:04:00
funny and always smiling. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:06
They think that we are not polite, not nice, they are thinking this | 0:04:06 | 0:04:12
about us, but it's not true. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
I have been studying English from kindergarten and I would love | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
to live there. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
I actually want to stay and study in Poland. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
My uncle, he works in a coffee shop. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:27
Life in England is more comfortable. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:32
It's so good that we are in this European Union | 0:04:32 | 0:04:34
and it's all a community. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:38
If the UK would leave the EU, it would affect us a lot. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:46
That's all from me here in Poland. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:49
Make sure you come back at 8:15 for the next | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
stop in my EU road trip, where I'll be exploring what impact | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
immigration is having back home in the UK. | 0:04:54 | 0:04:59 |
