Martin here with all of Wednesday's top news stories. | :00:00. | :00:08.
And keep watching for more of this amazing fluffy creature. | :00:09. | :00:23.
Many sweet, fizzy drinks will be getting more expensive to try | :00:24. | :00:28.
It was the big plan announced by the Government today | :00:29. | :00:34.
That's when the man in charge of spending the UK's money, | :00:35. | :00:38.
George Osborne, sets out what his plans are | :00:39. | :00:40.
He said that the extra money raised from sugary drinks - | :00:41. | :00:44.
expected to be hundreds of millions of pounds a year - | :00:45. | :00:47.
will be used to pay for more sport in primary schools. | :00:48. | :00:49.
The changes will start in two years' time. | :00:50. | :00:59.
This is a tax for good. This is a tax which is symbolic, which will | :01:00. | :01:05.
have ripples across the world. The logic behind it is the single | :01:06. | :01:10.
largest source of sugar in our children's diet is sugary, sweetened | :01:11. | :01:14.
drinks. It is important that our kids remain full of energy, healthy, | :01:15. | :01:22.
fit, intelligent. It is about adults handing over a better environment to | :01:23. | :01:31.
the next generation. There is loads of information on this online. | :01:32. | :01:34.
And that wasn't the only big news from today's Budget. | :01:35. | :01:37.
Your school day could be about to get longer, | :01:38. | :01:39.
with new plans out today for pupils in England. | :01:40. | :01:41.
3.30pm - and it's home time. It's when most of you finish school. | :01:42. | :01:45.
But today the Government annouced plans to extend the school day. | :01:46. | :01:48.
So you finish later in the afternoon. | :01:49. | :01:50.
It means secondary schools in England could be open | :01:51. | :01:52.
for an extra five hours a week or more. | :01:53. | :01:54.
The extra time would be used for more lessons and extra | :01:55. | :01:57.
So how would you feel about staying at school for longer? | :01:58. | :02:09.
It would be all right if it is good lessons, not if it is bad lessons. I | :02:10. | :02:16.
like to be in school and have fun but not to stay too long. I have to | :02:17. | :02:20.
go home to do my homework straightaway. But if I had longer | :02:21. | :02:25.
hours in school, I could get the teachers to help me do it. It would | :02:26. | :02:29.
affect our learning because we would not be concentrating as much because | :02:30. | :02:34.
we would be tired. If children had extra education then they would not | :02:35. | :02:36.
have enough time to do the stuff children should be doing, like | :02:37. | :02:40.
hanging out with friends. I think I would miss more time with my family | :02:41. | :02:44.
and playing with my brothers and sisters. | :02:45. | :02:45.
Some teacher groups don't think the extended hours are a good idea, | :02:46. | :02:48.
saying children will miss out on family time at home. | :02:49. | :02:51.
And that some schools might struggle to find enough money to stay | :02:52. | :02:53.
The Government today said they will give money to help schools | :02:54. | :02:57.
in England, but there may not be enough for everyone. | :02:58. | :02:59.
So if your school decides to extend your day, well, | :03:00. | :03:02.
you could be in the classrom for a little bit longer. | :03:03. | :03:07.
We want to know what you think - is it a good idea to | :03:08. | :03:10.
Now, some small birds doing a big job! | :03:11. | :03:17.
These pigeons are being fitted with little backpacks to help a team | :03:18. | :03:20.
Tiny sensors stitched onto pigeon-sized vests will measure | :03:21. | :03:25.
the levels of nitrogen dioxide and ozone, the main gases behind | :03:26. | :03:29.
harmful air pollution, over the next three days. | :03:30. | :03:33.
The results will be Tweeted and published online. | :03:34. | :03:38.
A school in Eastbourne in the south of England is trying out a new, | :03:39. | :03:41.
Here, pupils learn to make fires, clay pigeon shoot and tend to water | :03:42. | :03:45.
buffalo at their "Bronze Age" school. | :03:46. | :03:48.
With some schools worried about kids doing anything too dangerous, | :03:49. | :03:51.
UK safety experts say the school is a great example of what can be | :03:52. | :03:56.
done when activities like this, considered by some schools to be too | :03:57. | :03:59.
risky, are well managed by head teachers. | :04:00. | :04:07.
The only that children will get hurt is if they are not exposed to fires | :04:08. | :04:15.
and knives and taught how to use them responsibility. That is when | :04:16. | :04:18.
accidents happen. It is a good experience. How many ten-year-olds | :04:19. | :04:23.
would be able to stroke a water buffalo? I suppose it is a bit of | :04:24. | :04:29.
jurors, not really dangerous. But I think kids in other schools would be | :04:30. | :04:30.
able to handle what to do. Lastly, I guarantee you won't see | :04:31. | :04:34.
anything cuter than this today. Visitors at this aquarium in Tokyo | :04:35. | :04:36.
have been enjoying this little It was born nearly one month ago | :04:37. | :04:39.
and weighed just 4 kilograms. It is now just enjoying time | :04:40. | :04:43.
with its mum in this Newsround is back tomorrow morning | :04:44. | :04:48.
at 7.40 - we'll see you then. | :04:49. | :04:53. |
