Good morning, you're waking up with Newsround -

0:00:040:00:06

Ricky here with Wednesday's top stories.

0:00:060:00:08

On the way...

0:00:080:00:09

The mother of all ships comes home to Portsmouth.

0:00:090:00:11

And...

0:00:110:00:14

The countdown is on for the great American solar eclipse.

0:00:140:00:24

The largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy has arrived

0:00:310:00:33

at its new home in Portsmouth for the first time this morning.

0:00:330:00:37

The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth cost

0:00:370:00:38

?3 billion, weighs 65,000 tonnes

0:00:380:00:39

and is as high as Nelson's column.

0:00:390:00:41

But she won't have any aircraft on board until flying trials

0:00:410:00:44

are carried out next year.

0:00:440:00:51

Next up, the countdown is on for the great American solar

0:00:510:00:54

eclipse, which happens on August 21st across 14 US states.

0:00:540:00:59

It's the first time a total solar eclipse has happened

0:00:590:01:01

in America in decades.

0:01:010:01:03

Here's Whitney to explain.

0:01:030:01:07

There's three key players in the solar system -

0:01:070:01:09

the sun, the moon, and, of course, the earth

0:01:090:01:11

which we live on.

0:01:110:01:15

Now, on a normal afternoon, the sun shines on the earth.

0:01:150:01:20

This means it's bright during the day.

0:01:200:01:23

And as the earth turns around at night, it makes

0:01:230:01:25

everything go dark.

0:01:250:01:28

But on the afternoon of Monday 21st August,

0:01:280:01:31

something different will happen.

0:01:310:01:34

The moon will come between the earth and the sun.

0:01:340:01:36

The moon will block out the sun rays, which will cast a shadow over

0:01:360:01:40

the United States of America.

0:01:400:01:43

This will create a total solar eclipse.

0:01:430:01:46

It will happen over 14 states in the US,

0:01:460:01:48

from the west to the east coast, in the middle of the day.

0:01:480:01:52

It's a big deal because there hasn't been one there in 38 years.

0:01:520:01:56

And one like this, which goes from coast to coast,

0:01:560:02:03

hasn't happened in nearly 100 years.

0:02:030:02:05

Wowzer!

0:02:050:02:07

Millions of people are expected to watch it in the US

0:02:070:02:09

and they will be making sure they wear their special protective

0:02:090:02:13

glasses before looking up.

0:02:130:02:16

But don't feel left out - we will be able to see a small part

0:02:160:02:20

of the moon covering the sun from the UK.

0:02:200:02:24

And, of course, we'll be showing you exactly what's happening

0:02:240:02:27

in America here on Newsround.

0:02:270:02:32

And don't forget there is LOADS more info about the solar eclipse over

0:02:320:02:35

at Newsround online.

0:02:350:02:38

Let's get a quick sport update for you this morning.

0:02:380:02:41

Liverpool are on the verge of the Champions League group

0:02:410:02:43

stages, thanks to an amazing free kick by their 18-year-old right

0:02:430:02:47

back, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

0:02:470:02:48

Liverpool had plenty of chances, but it was late in the game before

0:02:480:02:51

James Milner's deflected cross made it two.

0:02:510:02:54

Hoffenheim still have a chance after they also scored a goal.

0:02:540:02:57

The second leg is at Anfield next Tuesday.

0:02:570:03:01

Celtic play Astana in the first leg of their qualifying match

0:03:010:03:04

tie in Glasgow tonight.

0:03:040:03:07

In Scotland Celtic are unbeaten in 50 games and knocked Astana out

0:03:070:03:10

of the Champions League last season.

0:03:100:03:14

And Johanna Konta's into the third round of the Cincinatti Open.

0:03:140:03:17

The British number one beat Kiki Bertens of

0:03:170:03:19

the Netherlands in straight sets.

0:03:190:03:25

Now, to a country with lots of secrets, where children find it

0:03:250:03:28

impossible to go online, and getting information about what's

0:03:280:03:30

going on in the world is really difficult.

0:03:300:03:33

North Korea is in the news because of the arguments its government

0:03:330:03:36

is having with America.

0:03:360:03:39

So what is life like for children there?

0:03:390:03:41

Ayshah's been investigating.

0:03:410:03:47

This is what children in North Korea are watching at the moment.

0:03:500:03:58

It's a cartoon about a big fierce tiger getting beaten

0:03:580:04:01

by a small spiky hedgehog.

0:04:010:04:04

It was made by the North Korean government for children to watch.

0:04:040:04:07

It seems that the message they want to send to kids

0:04:070:04:11

is that the orange tiger is America and the brave hedgehog

0:04:110:04:13

is North Korea.

0:04:130:04:16

They want children to believe that their country is brave

0:04:160:04:19

and clever and that America is a nasty bully.

0:04:190:04:23

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, controls all of this -

0:04:230:04:27

what children can see, what they hear and

0:04:270:04:32

what they can say.

0:04:320:04:33

Because North Korea is such a secret place, it's hard to know

0:04:330:04:37

what children living there think of cartoons like this.

0:04:370:04:39

But we can find out some things about their lives.

0:04:390:04:43

At school, pupils are taught a lot about their leader.

0:04:430:04:49

From an early age, they are told he is wonderful

0:04:490:04:51

and should always be praised.

0:04:510:04:55

And at the age of ten, all kids have to join

0:04:570:05:00

the Children's Union, where they sing songs about how

0:05:000:05:02

great the leader is.

0:05:020:05:04

And we know that life is hard for many children in North Korea -

0:05:040:05:08

last year, a report by the United Nations said that

0:05:080:05:11

many children weren't getting the food they need.

0:05:110:05:19

And although we know some things, we still don't know

0:05:190:05:21

what North Korean children really think about the leader

0:05:210:05:23

of this mysterious country.

0:05:230:05:26

And if you want to understand more about North Korea,

0:05:310:05:34

there's a Newsround guide online.

0:05:340:05:36

Now, do you ever get your sports mixed up?

0:05:360:05:38

This cricketer thinks he's a footballer - watch this.

0:05:380:05:41

This is Derbyshire's Hardus Viljoen, a South African fast bowler who's

0:05:410:05:45

also a good passer with his feet - which he used to run out

0:05:450:05:49

Durham's Michael Richardson.

0:05:490:05:51

It's totally allowed - just pretty unusual!

0:05:510:05:54

That's all from me, Newsround's back at 4.20 - have a great day!

0:05:540:05:57
