Evening all. It's Friday. weekend is here. And it's time for | :00:22. | :00:25.
Newsround! We're Ricky and Leah. Here's what's coming up. It might | :00:25. | :00:29.
look like just a boring old park gate, but find out why it has got | :00:29. | :00:36.
lots of children very, very excited. And the great gorilla invasion! | :00:36. | :00:39.
But first to a desperate rescue mission that's been going on in | :00:39. | :00:42.
Wales since yesterday morning. A group of men became trapped | :00:42. | :00:45.
underground when the coal mine they were working in flooded, blocking | :00:45. | :00:51.
their way out. Luckily some of the group managed to escape, but one is | :00:51. | :00:54.
still trapped. Another three have sadly died. Emergency workers say | :00:54. | :01:01.
they are doing everything they can From the sky you can hardly see the | :01:01. | :01:05.
entrance to the mine. It is crowded with rescue workers desperate to | :01:05. | :01:09.
reach the man inside. This is a drift mine which means you can walk | :01:09. | :01:12.
straight into it, unlike other mines you may know about where you | :01:12. | :01:17.
have to travel underground. The miner is stuck 0 meters into the | :01:17. | :01:23.
tunnel. His way out is blocked by by floodwater. Off that little mine | :01:23. | :01:29.
shaft, there are numerous little tunnels, old workings which all | :01:29. | :01:35.
potentially have air pockets in. So they are experienced miners. They | :01:35. | :01:39.
know the layout of the mine. They know where to go in this situation. | :01:39. | :01:44.
Emergency workers are trying to pump the water out of the mine and | :01:44. | :01:49.
they are using special listening equipment. | :01:49. | :01:53.
There are only a few mines like this left in South Wales. Inside it | :01:53. | :01:58.
is it is dark and cramped. The men are mining for a special type of | :01:58. | :02:03.
coal, using shovels to get it out of the ground. It is dangerous work, | :02:04. | :02:08.
thousands of miners die around the world in accidents. In the UK just | :02:08. | :02:12.
ten miners have been killed in accidents since 2006 and rescue | :02:12. | :02:16.
workers say they won't give up until they find the last miner. But | :02:16. | :02:24.
for his relatives above ground, it And if any stories you hear on the | :02:24. | :02:27.
news upset you, there's lots of info and advice on the Newsround | :02:27. | :02:30.
website. Now, scientists have made another | :02:30. | :02:32.
amazing dinosaur discovery. They've found perfect feathers from | :02:32. | :02:35.
dinosaurs that lived around 70 million years ago. | :02:35. | :02:38.
They're in such good condition because they were preserved in | :02:38. | :02:40.
fossilised tree resin called amber. Scientists reckon it means many of | :02:41. | :02:43.
the most fearsome, meat-eating dinosaurs might actually have been | :02:43. | :02:50.
covered in feathers which kept them warm. | :02:50. | :02:53.
Now for 17 years one park in Northern Ireland has been divided. | :02:53. | :02:56.
A huge wall was built down the middle to stop Protestants and | :02:56. | :02:58.
Catholics from clashing. There has been trouble in Belfast for many | :02:58. | :03:01.
years and the 3.5 metre high fence stopped children from sharing the | :03:01. | :03:11.
:03:11. | :03:11. | ||
same play areas, but from today Five, four, three, two, one, yes! | :03:12. | :03:15.
This was the moment everything changed. Catholic and Protestant | :03:16. | :03:20.
children running through a new gate in a fence that separated their | :03:20. | :03:25.
park for years. Alexandra Park in North Belfast might look like any | :03:25. | :03:30.
park, but it has has a steel fence running through the middle of it. | :03:30. | :03:35.
In the past there used to be lots of violent clashes between | :03:35. | :03:39.
Catholics and Protestants so the fence was built in the 1990s to try | :03:39. | :03:45.
to stop the fighting. That meant there had to be two separate | :03:45. | :03:51.
playgrounds, one for Catholics and another for for prod standards. | :03:51. | :03:55.
Since then -- Protestants. Since then lots of people have been | :03:55. | :03:58.
working hard to get on better and now a gate has been put into the | :03:58. | :04:01.
centre of the fence for people to get through. Today it was opened | :04:02. | :04:05.
for the first time as part of a three month trial. These children | :04:05. | :04:08.
were among the first to go through. It is a new chance to make new | :04:08. | :04:11.
friends and then we can play together. | :04:11. | :04:15.
You can play with other friends from this side and you can like | :04:15. | :04:18.
call for them and all and take them to the park and show them around | :04:18. | :04:22.
the park and all. It will only be open for a few | :04:22. | :04:26.
hours a day during the week, but people can come and go as they like. | :04:26. | :04:30.
There are 49 different peace walls in parts of Belfast. Most have been | :04:30. | :04:33.
there for decades, but if the trial at Alexandra Park works, it could | :04:33. | :04:43.
be the first step to the peace If you want to know more, head over | :04:43. | :04:47.
to the Newsround website. Now, check these guys out. These | :04:47. | :04:49.
amazing life-size gorilla statues have been put along the banks of | :04:50. | :04:52.
the River Thames in London and they're certainly brightening the | :04:52. | :04:55.
place up. They've just been moved after spending the summer in | :04:55. | :04:58.
Bristol. But they're not just there to look | :04:58. | :05:01.
cool. They'll eventually be auctioned off and the money will go | :05:01. | :05:06.
towards charities which help gorillas in the wild. Now, what | :05:06. | :05:09.
makes you happy? Playing with your mates? Going on holiday? Getting | :05:09. | :05:12.
your hands on a shiny gadget? Well, one charity says they know | :05:12. | :05:18.
what makes you feel good and it's not what you would expect. UNICEF | :05:18. | :05:20.
asked hundreds of kids from different countries including | :05:20. | :05:24.
Britain what makes them happy. Many children here said it wasn't things | :05:24. | :05:28.
like being bought the best games consoles or mobile phones, it was | :05:28. | :05:32.
something much more simple - spending time with their mum and | :05:32. | :05:35.
dad. But many found their parents are too tired to play with them | :05:36. | :05:39.
after getting home from a long day at work. It is very different to | :05:39. | :05:44.
how children in Spain and Sweden answered. In these two countries, | :05:44. | :05:48.
kids seemed to spend more time with their families. | :05:48. | :05:51.
And we've been asking kids in sunny Spain why spending time with their | :05:51. | :05:59.
parents makes them so happy. playing with my mum and daddy makes | :05:59. | :06:02.
me most happy. I like spending time with my | :06:02. | :06:08.
parents because when they come back from work they make me a sand | :06:08. | :06:15.
sandwich. They love me a lot and lot and lot and lot and lot and lot. | :06:16. | :06:19.
You guys have been in touch about this. Sian from London says she | :06:19. | :06:22.
would rather hang out with family than friends, but her mum and dad | :06:22. | :06:27.
are often busy working. Soph from Beccles wrote in to say | :06:27. | :06:30.
she doesn't see much of her dad, but gets to spend loads of time | :06:30. | :06:32.
with her mum. Carys who's from Llanelli says | :06:32. | :06:36.
she's going to spend lots of time with her mum soon because they're | :06:36. | :06:38.
off on holiday where they'll hang out together. | :06:38. | :06:41.
And Claudia, all the way from Indonesia's been in touch to say | :06:41. | :06:45.
her parents are always very busy and she'd like to see them more. | :06:45. | :06:47.
Thanks for your comments. Keep them coming in. | :06:47. | :06:50.
And before we go, ever wondered what it would be like to live in | :06:50. | :06:53.
someone else's shoes? Here at Newsround we're looking for kids | :06:53. | :06:56.
and their families to take part in a special TV programme exploring | :06:56. | :06:59.
how people who live right next to each other can live really | :06:59. | :07:01.
different lives. If you're between 11 and 13 and | :07:02. | :07:11.
