Hello, Hayley here with your

Saturday Newsround.

0:00:120:00:14

First to the Winter Olympics

in South Korea, where there's been

0:00:140:00:17

huge drama and disapointment today

for Team GB speed-skater

0:00:170:00:21

Elise Christie.

0:00:210:00:22

Take a look.

0:00:220:00:24

British short-track skater

Elise Christie was in tears

0:00:240:00:27

as she was taken to hospital

after crashing out of

0:00:270:00:30

the 1500m semifinal.

0:00:300:00:32

She collided with China's Li Jinyu

on the final lap as she tried

0:00:320:00:36

to finish in the top two.

0:00:360:00:44

This is the fifth time that Elise

has crashed out of her Olympic runs,

0:00:440:00:47

after she was disqualified in three

events at Sochi 2014,

0:00:470:00:50

then missed out on a medal

in the 500m a few days ago.

0:00:500:00:53

Team GB have said that the injury

isn't serious and she's been taken

0:00:530:00:56

to hospital as a precaution.

0:00:560:00:59

And hudreds of well wishers have

taken to social media

0:00:590:01:01

to send tehir best wishes.

0:01:010:01:05

-- their best wishes.

0:01:050:01:06

Everyone is hoping that Elise

will be back on her feet later this

0:01:060:01:09

week as she has one more chance

to take back the reigns

0:01:090:01:12

in the 1000 meters.

0:01:120:01:13

It's not all looking glum

for the British team though

0:01:130:01:15

because there's a chance for more

medals in the next hour.

0:01:150:01:18

Lizzy Yarnold and Laura

Deas are in second

0:01:180:01:20

and fourth place respectively

going into the final

0:01:200:01:22

run of the skeleton.

0:01:220:01:23

Tune in tomorrow to

see how they got on.

0:01:230:01:26

Fingers crossed, ladies!

0:01:260:01:28

But someone who has already got

a medal in the bag for Team GB

0:01:280:01:32

is teenager Izzy Atkin.

0:01:320:01:33

She won bronze in the ski

slopestyle competition

0:01:330:01:35

and here's how she did it.

0:01:350:01:37

This is the face of history.

0:01:370:01:39

Great Britain's first ever

Olympic medal on skis.

0:01:390:01:42

Slopestyle is about nailing

the rails and avoiding

0:01:420:01:45

the bumps on the jumps.

0:01:450:01:47

And 19-year-old Izzy

Atkin does it in style.

0:01:470:01:51

Born and raised in the United States

to a British father and a Malaysian

0:01:510:01:54

mother, Izzy perfected her skills

on the slopes of Maine

0:01:540:01:57

when she was just three.

0:01:570:01:59

Before her final run,

Atkin was sitting in fourth place

0:01:590:02:03

so this had to be flawless.

0:02:030:02:06

Biggest run of her life starts now.

0:02:060:02:09

Every twist, every jump,

pushing it to the limit,

0:02:090:02:12

she laid down a score good enough

for third but could anyone else take

0:02:120:02:16

a medal away from her?

0:02:160:02:18

Oh no!

0:02:180:02:21

She's down.

0:02:210:02:22

Great Britain's Izzy

Atkin takes the bronze.

0:02:220:02:26

There were tonnes of big names

in the field, you know,

0:02:260:02:28

it could have been anyone's.

0:02:280:02:31

I was standing at the bottom

after my third and final run

0:02:310:02:33

and I knew I had skied the best

I could and I was just waiting

0:02:330:02:37

for those last three or four girls

to drop and my heart was racing.

0:02:370:02:40

But yeah, I can't believe it.

0:02:400:02:43

Well, believe it, Izzy!

0:02:430:02:44

You're an Olympic bronze medallist.

0:02:440:02:52

The illegal hunting of animals,

or poaching, is a big problem

0:02:520:02:55

for wildlife in Africa.

0:02:550:02:56

Now, British soldiers

are being to be sent to Africa

0:02:560:02:58

to help protect animals

like elephants, lions and rhinos.

0:02:580:03:01

The aim is for them to help train

rangers in Malawi after a succesfull

0:03:010:03:04

trial of the scheme last year.

0:03:040:03:10

Another animal who needs some help

right now is the orangutan.

0:03:100:03:14

Now, a team from Chester Zoo

is trying to save the animals

0:03:140:03:17

in the country of Borneo

in south-east Asia.

0:03:170:03:19

They're doing it by repairing

bits of the forest that

0:03:190:03:21

have been damaged.

0:03:210:03:22

The BBC's Victoria Gill has

been finding out more.

0:03:220:03:25

Zoo programmes like this

preserve small populations

0:03:250:03:28

of Bornean orangutans

but in the wild, they're being

0:03:280:03:31

pushed rapidly towards extinction.

0:03:310:03:34

Their rainforest home

continues to be cleared

0:03:340:03:37

for agriculture and mining.

0:03:370:03:45

Scientists estimate that

deforestation alone

0:03:460:03:47

could wipe out another 45,000

orangutans here in

0:03:470:03:49

the next three decades.

0:03:490:03:53

But this bridge building project

is a much-needed sign of hope.

0:03:530:03:55

Where the forest is fragmented,

a team from Chester zoo

0:03:550:03:58

and the Malaysian charity Hutan

is physically reconnecting it

0:03:580:04:01

with tough polyester straps.

0:04:010:04:05

This remarkable footage captured

by a tourist is the project's

0:04:050:04:08

first sign of success.

0:04:080:04:16

To actually see them using them

and see them moving more

0:04:170:04:19

freely across a habitat

that is so fragmented

0:04:190:04:21

is a really positive sign.

0:04:210:04:23

This is very much

a short-term solution.

0:04:230:04:24

The long-term solution

is to reforest the area.

0:04:240:04:27

Happy new year!

0:04:270:04:30

Because today is the start

of the Chinese New year.

0:04:300:04:36

Is also known as the lunar New Year.

0:04:360:04:39

It's the Year Of The Dog

and celebrations all over the world

0:04:390:04:41

will kick off tonight.

0:04:410:04:42

Aysha has been finding out more.

0:04:420:04:44

Xinnian kuaile!

0:04:440:04:45

Or - Happy Chinese New Year!

0:04:450:04:46

Now, you may be thinking,

hang on a minute, we've

0:04:460:04:49

already had New Year.

0:04:490:04:50

But Chinese New Year is a bit

different to the one

0:04:500:04:52

we celebrate on January one.

0:04:520:05:01

-- January 1st.

0:05:010:05:02

In China, they use a traditional

calendar, which follows

0:05:020:05:06

the movements of the moon

and Chinese New Year celebrates

0:05:060:05:08

the start of a new moon.

0:05:080:05:09

Each year is represented

by one of 12 animals

0:05:090:05:12

from the Chinese Zodiac and every 12

years, this loops back

0:05:120:05:14

around and start again.

0:05:140:05:15

This year is the year of the dog.

0:05:150:05:17

But what are the qualities

of a person who was born

0:05:170:05:20

in the year of the dog?

0:05:200:05:21

Well, dog people are considered

to be kind, loyal and honest.

0:05:210:05:24

However, they're also

thought to be stubborn,

0:05:240:05:26

easy to anger and fussy.

0:05:260:05:30

Famous people who were born

in the year of the dog include

0:05:300:05:34

Madonna, Justin Bieber

and Donald Trump.

0:05:340:05:36

So, if you're celebrating this

year, Xinnian kuaile.

0:05:360:05:42

That's all from me,

we'll be back tomorrow.

0:05:420:05:48

We will have all the sporting action

from this afternoon as well as all

0:05:490:05:52

of the news from the Winter Olympics

for you so see you in the morning.

0:05:520:05:56

Bye!
