It's coming up to 8:17 this Monday morning,

:00:00.:00:00.

you're live on CBBC with Newsround, I'm Ricky.

:00:07.:00:08.

Coming up: British astronaut Tim Peake

:00:09.:00:12.

explains just how you use the loo in space.

:00:13.:00:15.

First, a massive parade of Great Britain's Olympic

:00:16.:00:34.

and Paralympic heroes is happening today in Manchester.

:00:35.:00:37.

Loads of Rio 2016's stars are here in MediaCityUK today,

:00:38.:00:41.

ahead of this afternoon's celebration through

:00:42.:00:43.

the city's streets, before another parade in London tomorrow.

:00:44.:00:47.

More than 150,000 people are expected to come out to watch,

:00:48.:00:52.

and Paralympic swimming star Ellie Simmonds can't wait.

:00:53.:00:56.

I'm very lucky that I've been able to go to three

:00:57.:00:59.

after Beijing, and after London, and after Rio now,

:01:00.:01:01.

and to come here today in Manchester and then London tomorrow

:01:02.:01:06.

to thank the people that supported us through the summer

:01:07.:01:09.

of the Olympics and Paralympics is going to be exciting.

:01:10.:01:16.

Here's a quick reminder of what makes them so great.

:01:17.:01:19.

It was a massive summer for our Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

:01:20.:01:22.

Years of training paid off, and they smashed it.

:01:23.:01:25.

where Adam Peaty got the first gold for Team GB.

:01:26.:01:30.

Gymnast Max Whitlock brought home not one but two gold medals,

:01:31.:01:34.

six golds were won in the velodrome, with Laura Trott leading the way,

:01:35.:01:37.

Mo Farah got the double double, Nicola Adams defended her title,

:01:38.:01:43.

and the hockey team battled their way into the record books.

:01:44.:01:48.

Team GB had aced it to second place in the medal table,

:01:49.:01:51.

From day one at the Paralympic Games,

:01:52.:01:54.

Kadeena Cox got not one but two golds in two sports.

:01:55.:02:00.

stormed to victory in the S6 50m butterfly.

:02:01.:02:06.

Jonnie Peacock held on to his T44 100m title,

:02:07.:02:09.

and Hannah Cockroft added three goals to the tally.

:02:10.:02:13.

And, of course, cyclist Dame Sarah Storey became

:02:14.:02:16.

the most successful British female Paralympian ever,

:02:17.:02:19.

ParalympicsGB newly doubled the goals won four years ago

:02:20.:02:25.

and also finished second in the medal table.

:02:26.:02:28.

and Jenny will be live from there for Newsround at 4:20.

:02:29.:02:39.

Moving on to these incredible pictures of a Chinese space rocket

:02:40.:02:42.

blasting off from the Gobi Desert in east Asia.

:02:43.:02:44.

It's sending two astronauts to China's new space station.

:02:45.:02:47.

They'll spend a month carrying out different experiments.

:02:48.:02:52.

Now someone who knows just what it's like to be in space

:02:53.:02:54.

is this guy, British astronaut Tim Peake.

:02:55.:02:57.

He's been travelling the country meeting children

:02:58.:03:00.

since returning from the International Space Station.

:03:01.:03:02.

This weekend, he met with Jenny here at Newsround HQ

:03:03.:03:05.

After six months floating in space, Major Tim Peake landed

:03:06.:03:12.

at Newsround HQ to a reception that was out of this world.

:03:13.:03:15.

Olivia, who is nine, from Leicester, wants to know,

:03:16.:03:17.

what does it feel like to be able to float around?

:03:18.:03:23.

Yeah, floating in space is really liberating,

:03:24.:03:24.

When you first start, you're not very good at it,

:03:25.:03:28.

and your legs and arms are flailing everywhere,

:03:29.:03:30.

When you get used to it, you can just push off with one finger

:03:31.:03:34.

and float down the other end of the space station, it's great fun.

:03:35.:03:41.

This next one you've already spoken about it a little bit,

:03:42.:03:43.

but it's something that pretty much everyone wants to know -

:03:44.:03:46.

and how did you get rid of the waste from the ISS?

:03:47.:03:51.

It's a big one, it is a big one. Yeah, important question.

:03:52.:03:54.

Right, so in space, to keep everything under control,

:03:55.:03:56.

you must have airflow, airflow is the key,

:03:57.:03:58.

so you have a little vacuum pump to the loo,

:03:59.:04:00.

and that creates the suction so you can pee into the tube,

:04:01.:04:03.

and it keeps everything going in the right direction.

:04:04.:04:05.

And the important thing is, when you've finished peeing,

:04:06.:04:08.

you keep the pump running for at least 30 seconds,

:04:09.:04:11.

because otherwise, if you switch it off too soon, then it has not

:04:12.:04:14.

We've got some questions from these guys, bear with us one moment.

:04:15.:04:32.

Actually, I took a teddy, I've got two young boys,

:04:33.:04:36.

so I took a small teddy in for each of them,

:04:37.:04:39.

and my excuse was it was for my two small boys,

:04:40.:04:41.

but I had them every night with me so...!

:04:42.:04:43.

You've got one too. Do you think aliens really exist?

:04:44.:04:46.

Of course they exist! Yes, absolutely.

:04:47.:04:47.

I think we are actually fairly close

:04:48.:04:49.

to finding evidence of life, past life, on Mars,

:04:50.:04:51.

that's certainly what we are searching for, robotic vehicles.

:04:52.:04:53.

little green men running around, well, who knows?

:04:54.:04:57.

The universe is an extremely large place, and there is

:04:58.:04:59.

a huge probability that there is intelligent life out there.

:05:00.:05:11.

From intelligent life to wildlife, a rhino that got stuck

:05:12.:05:13.

in a tyre has been rescued in Zimbabwe, in southern Africa.

:05:14.:05:16.

The animal managed to get his snout trapped,

:05:17.:05:19.

When it became clear he couldn't free himself, vets stepped in

:05:20.:05:26.

and gave him some medicine, so they were able to get it off.

:05:27.:05:31.

millions of people in the US will vote for a new President.

:05:32.:05:35.

And we've got a team in the US right now who are waiting

:05:36.:05:38.

for your questions to put to children in America.

:05:39.:05:42.

If you're interested in the big vote,

:05:43.:05:44.

or even if you want to find out how Americans celebrate Halloween,

:05:45.:05:47.

get those questions into Newsround online right now.

:05:48.:05:50.

That's all from me, Newsround's back on CBBC this afternoon at 4:20,

:05:51.:05:55.

when we'll be live from the Olympic and Paralympic parade.

:05:56.:05:59.
