It's Monday morning.

0:00:040:00:05

Ayshah here with the stories to start your week, including:

0:00:050:00:09

British athletics is riding high as Team GB get a record 12 gold medals

0:00:090:00:12

at the European Championships.

0:00:120:00:18

helping farmers with their harvests.

0:00:180:00:21

This is Newsround.

0:00:210:00:25

First, to Iraq, where the Government has said British forces could play a

0:00:270:00:31

role for "weeks and months" to come.

0:00:310:00:33

Tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee

0:00:330:00:36

their homes because of the threat they face from Islamic State.

0:00:360:00:44

The Royal Air Force has been delivering aid to people

0:00:440:00:47

in desperate need on the ground, but now British pilots are also

0:00:470:00:50

flying missions to gather information about where militants

0:00:500:00:53

are, and what they're doing.

0:00:530:00:56

And there's more information about what's going on in Iraq

0:00:560:00:58

on our special guide on the Newsround website.

0:00:580:01:03

Next, during the summer holidays, you may have spent some time

0:01:030:01:06

in the countryside, If you did, you probably saw tractors

0:01:060:01:08

and combine harvesters hard at work on the crops.

0:01:080:01:12

Now some very clever inventions have made this process even easier.

0:01:120:01:17

We sent Martin to a farm in Gloucestershire to find out more.

0:01:170:01:21

You just can't beat a slice of toast and a bowl of cereal in the morning,

0:01:220:01:26

but where does it all come from?

0:01:260:01:27

Well, it's actually made from wheat, and for farmers up and down the

0:01:270:01:30

country, it is time to harvest it.

0:01:300:01:35

The harvest season is when farmers take to

0:01:350:01:37

their fields to pick the crops that they have been growing all year.

0:01:370:01:41

It is also a nervous time, as they find out if the plants

0:01:410:01:44

they've sown have had enough heat, light, and water to be good enough

0:01:440:01:48

to end up on our plates.

0:01:480:01:50

They haven't got long to get everything done.

0:01:500:01:54

It is a bit of a race against time to try to get

0:01:540:01:57

the crops harvested and get them to the barn when they are

0:01:570:01:59

in the best state possible to make the best bread or the best biscuits

0:01:590:02:03

or the best breakfast cereal.

0:02:030:02:04

This year, there has been loads of sunshine, which has been really

0:02:040:02:07

good for the grain, and here at this farm in Gloucestershire,

0:02:070:02:10

that is great news.

0:02:100:02:12

The quality of the grain we are growing looks to

0:02:120:02:14

be fantastic, so we should get some really good bread from it.

0:02:140:02:17

We are about two weeks ahead of where we would normally be, because

0:02:170:02:20

it has been so warm for so long.

0:02:200:02:22

It has been a fantastic summer for farming so far.

0:02:220:02:25

Picking crops from land was not always an easy task.

0:02:250:02:28

It used to take a very long time.

0:02:280:02:30

Farmers would do most of the tasks by hand, and deploy

0:02:300:02:33

loads of people to help them.

0:02:330:02:35

But over the last 200 years, some very clever inventions have helped

0:02:350:02:39

make the harvest season easy.

0:02:390:02:42

Quadcopter technology to be able to have an aerial view of our field,

0:02:420:02:45

we can just go out and spray a particular patch.

0:02:450:02:48

That technology is good for the environment, because we're not using

0:02:480:02:50

as many chemicals around the farm.

0:02:500:02:52

Combine, for instance, can steer itself.

0:02:520:02:54

It has GPS on it.

0:02:540:02:56

It can tell us which parts of the field a yielding a good yield,

0:02:560:02:59

and which are yielding a bad yield.

0:02:590:03:01

Farming and farms have gotten bigger and

0:03:010:03:03

bigger, and we are using more and more technology to try to save money

0:03:030:03:06

and make everyone's lives easier.

0:03:060:03:09

And the more wheat that is harvested means more cereal and more toast

0:03:090:03:12

for me.

0:03:120:03:16

To sport now, and England's women rugby union team

0:03:170:03:20

are world champions.

0:03:200:03:22

They beat Canada 21-9 in the final.

0:03:220:03:26

Emily Scarratt's second try of the match sealed the win in Paris.

0:03:260:03:30

They have made it to the final in the last three cups,

0:03:300:03:33

but their previous success in the tournament was 20 years ago.

0:03:330:03:41

Sticking with sport, and Mo Farah added another medal to the British

0:03:410:03:44

gold rush at the European Championships this weekend.

0:03:440:03:45

After winning gold in the 10,000 metres on Wednesday,

0:03:450:03:48

Mo dominated the 5,000 metres on the final day yesterday.

0:03:480:03:51

And Mo said having his kids there made quite a difference.

0:03:510:03:55

Yeah, it was amazing.

0:03:550:03:56

One of them gave me a kiss.

0:03:560:03:58

It was like "Daddy, Daddy".

0:03:580:03:59

It is the first time they have come to watch me properly

0:03:590:04:02

and see Daddy race.

0:04:020:04:03

It's a great championship for all the people.

0:04:030:04:05

We have a young team, particularly the relay.

0:04:050:04:08

Adam Gemili is really impressive.

0:04:080:04:09

He is only young, and we have done well overall.

0:04:090:04:14

Another Olympic and Commonwealth Champion, Greg Rutherford,

0:04:150:04:17

won the long jump with a jump of 8 metres and 29 centimetres.

0:04:170:04:22

His win guaranteed Britain topped the medal table for only

0:04:220:04:26

the third time in the Championships history, with a record 12 golds.

0:04:260:04:31

And yet more British gold in both the men's and women's

0:04:310:04:34

4 x 100 relays.

0:04:340:04:36

But it was the women's result that was particularly sweet.

0:04:360:04:39

The ladies set a new British record, their time of 42.25 seconds beating

0:04:390:04:44

the one set way back in 1980.

0:04:440:04:48

England's cricketers are having a nice day off

0:04:480:04:50

after they smashed India in just three days for the second

0:04:500:04:53

time running to win the series 3-1.

0:04:530:04:55

India were bowled out in their second innings

0:04:550:04:57

for just 94 yesterday, England winning the test match

0:04:570:05:01

by a massive innings and 244 runs.

0:05:010:05:05

Captain Alistair Cook said he's delighted with

0:05:050:05:06

his side's incredible turnaround.

0:05:060:05:09

English cricket needed a series win, and to deliver it like we've

0:05:090:05:14

delivered it, you know, we'll have a big smile on our face to win

0:05:140:05:17

the last two games in three days.

0:05:170:05:21

I think they got no more than one 50 in four innings.

0:05:210:05:26

The bowlers can take a huge amount of credit.

0:05:260:05:29

All the batters scored runs, so it's almost like the perfect games.

0:05:290:05:33

And Man City began the defence of their Premier League title with

0:05:330:05:36

a 2-0 win at Newcastle.

0:05:360:05:38

David Silva gave City a first half lead, set up by a great

0:05:380:05:41

backheel from Edin Dzeko, before Sergio Aguero came off the bench to

0:05:410:05:45

score in the closing minutes.

0:05:450:05:48

The win puts City at the top of the table after the opening weekend.

0:05:480:05:52

That's all from me.

0:05:520:05:54

Newsround's back right here at 8.55, where you can find out why the

0:05:540:05:57

world's fastest man, the Lightning Bolt, is having a party in Brazil.
