Welcome to Newsround. Stick around for some of this. | :00:07. | :00:13.
Thousands of British troops are coming home early from Afghanistan. | :00:13. | :00:18.
I'm Barney. We are here to check out the new film, The Snowman and | :00:18. | :00:27.
the Snowdog. And: Is it true? Really? Find out what surprised | :00:27. | :00:37.
:00:37. | :00:46. | ||
First, it was a disaster which happened to people going to a | :00:46. | :00:51.
football match more than 20 years ago. 96 Liverpool fans lost their | :00:51. | :00:58.
lives at a FA Cup semifinal in 1989. The latest part of their families' | :00:58. | :01:03.
campaign is this song, tipped to be this year's Christmas Number One. | :01:03. | :01:07.
Two developments have brought justice a step closer. It follows a | :01:07. | :01:11.
report earlier this year which found some police officers had lied | :01:11. | :01:14.
afterwards about what happened on that day and tried to blame the | :01:14. | :01:18.
fans for causing the deaths. it's been announced the original | :01:18. | :01:21.
investigations into how each fan died are to be re-opened. There is | :01:21. | :01:25.
also going to be a new police inquiry to try to finally get to | :01:25. | :01:29.
the truth. We are delighted. We thought this | :01:29. | :01:34.
would be the result. But we have got it now. So I think it is clear | :01:34. | :01:37.
now justice is on its way. We could come out with something like a | :01:37. | :01:41.
small step for mankind, but it's a huge step for the families. I think | :01:41. | :01:45.
a lot of us will have a much happier Christmas. | :01:45. | :01:49.
Next, the number of people who have been poorly because of the winter | :01:49. | :01:54.
vomiting virus has risen. The bug called Norovirus causes sickness | :01:55. | :02:02.
and upset tummy. There have been 880,000 cases in England and Wales | :02:02. | :02:06.
since the summer. More than 60 hospitals have had | :02:06. | :02:10.
outbreaks and some schools have closed. Well, here to tell us more | :02:10. | :02:15.
about this is Dr Tom Cullen. Thank you for coming in. What is | :02:15. | :02:21.
Norovirus and how can we catch it? It's a virus which affects your gut. | :02:21. | :02:26.
That is why you feel sick and people vomit and go to the toilet a | :02:26. | :02:29.
lot. If somebody does have it and comes into contact with someone | :02:29. | :02:34.
else, it is likely to spread. girlfriend had it, my dad had it. | :02:34. | :02:39.
Lots of people have had this. Should they be going to the doctor? | :02:39. | :02:43.
The symptoms might last a day or two. They will feel unwell. After | :02:43. | :02:48.
that, they will start to get better. If people aren't getting better | :02:48. | :02:54.
after that time, we might recommend going to see the doctor. What | :02:54. | :02:59.
should people do if they get it? you do have it, it is important | :02:59. | :03:04.
that you eat lots and try and drink a lot to build your fluids back up. | :03:04. | :03:08.
Hygiene, so if you wash your hands, try and stay away from people who | :03:08. | :03:12.
might get more unwell if they catch it. Stay away from Ricky's family! | :03:12. | :03:17.
They are OK now. Next, for the thousands of families in the UK who | :03:17. | :03:20.
have relatives in the Armed Forces, there must be no better feeling | :03:20. | :03:25.
than seeing them again after months of being in another country. While | :03:25. | :03:29.
British troops have been fighting in Afghanistan for more than ten | :03:29. | :03:33.
years now, but the Government has announced that thousands of them | :03:33. | :03:37.
will be back home sooner than expected. Afghanistan, a | :03:37. | :03:43.
battleground for more than a decade. A conflict that's claimed thousands | :03:43. | :03:50.
of lives. We will be able to see troops come home in two even steps. | :03:50. | :03:57.
The plan is for nearly all 9,500 British troops to leave in the next | :03:57. | :04:01.
two years. 500 will be back home in time to see their families this | :04:01. | :04:05.
Christmas. Another 4,000 troops will leave by the end of next year. | :04:05. | :04:08.
We are surprised about how many are going. It is such a large | :04:08. | :04:12.
proportion, almost half the force here currently leaving. But 500 | :04:12. | :04:17.
have already gone. We caught up with some of those getting on the | :04:17. | :04:21.
plane back to the UK. It was a surprise for them. They will be | :04:21. | :04:24.
spending Christmas with their families. Forces from the UK and | :04:24. | :04:28.
other countries were sent to defeat Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. | :04:28. | :04:31.
Britain and America thought the Taliban, who were then in control | :04:31. | :04:35.
of the country, were protecting terrorists who had attacked the USA. | :04:35. | :04:39.
Since then, it is thought up to 20,000 Afghans have lost their | :04:39. | :04:44.
lives. More than 400 British troops and 2,000 Americans have also been | :04:44. | :04:48.
killed. After years of heavy fighting, many British servicemen | :04:48. | :04:52.
and women have been training local Afghans to protect the country for | :04:52. | :04:57.
themselves ready for when the UK troops leave in 2014. The UK troops | :04:57. | :05:00.
have been there for many years now. What difference have they made so | :05:00. | :05:05.
far? They have made some of the areas that are heavily populated | :05:05. | :05:10.
here in Helmand safer so you have seen markets open, you have seen | :05:10. | :05:14.
people going to school. They haven't defeated the Taliban. There | :05:14. | :05:18.
will be parts of the country that will remain insecure. America will | :05:18. | :05:23.
decide when to pull out the rest of its 60,000 troops next year. But | :05:23. | :05:26.
today's announcement marks a major step along the way to Britain | :05:27. | :05:30.
pulling out of Afghanistan completely. | :05:30. | :05:34.
If you want to know more about the conflict, you can head over to the | :05:34. | :05:39.
Newsround website. What are you looking forward to on | :05:40. | :05:46.
the Christmas telly? Well, The Snowman? Yes. It's not Christmas | :05:46. | :05:49.
without the classic film, The Snowman. It has been a massive | :05:49. | :05:54.
favourite since it was made. Now, they have made another one, The | :05:54. | :06:00.
Snowman and the Snowdog. So we sent some presspackers to a special | :06:00. | :06:04.
screening to find out how it compares to the original. | :06:04. | :06:09.
Barney. We are here to check out the new film, The Snowman and the | :06:09. | :06:12.
Snowdog. # We're walking in the air. # | :06:12. | :06:18.
I hope it's as good as the first one. It is time to watch the film | :06:18. | :06:28.
:06:28. | :06:29. | ||
now. Quiet! Hit the lights! Snowman and the Snowdog tells a | :06:29. | :06:34.
story of a boy who moves house and finds a box in his bedroom. There's | :06:34. | :06:39.
a snowman building kit in the box so he builds a snowman and a | :06:39. | :06:43.
snowdog. I thought the film was incredible. I liked the bit where | :06:43. | :06:50.
the boy finds the box with the picture of the snowman. Really | :06:50. | :06:55.
liked the film. I loved it as much as the first film. The ski race was | :06:55. | :07:04.
incredible! We are here with Robin, who drew lots of pictures for The | :07:04. | :07:08.
Snowman and the Snowdog. How hard was it to draw all the characters | :07:08. | :07:13.
the same? That is a good question. A lot of people think with the | :07:13. | :07:17.
snowman he is going to be easy to draw, but he is very difficult. If | :07:17. | :07:22.
you have got fewer lines to draw to make someone's face, it means that | :07:22. | :07:27.
if you get one of those lines slightly wrong, the face looks | :07:27. | :07:31.
wrong. There is an amazing twist at the end. We are not allowed to | :07:31. | :07:39.
reveal it. So make sure you watch on Christmas Eve. | :07:39. | :07:45.
Thank you. Lots of you will have been acting this week in your | :07:45. | :07:48.
school Christmas play. You have been on the website telling us | :07:49. | :07:58.
:07:59. | :08:16. | ||
which part you played. Here are Finally, check out these lovely | :08:16. | :08:21.
lion cubs. The pair have been named after Olympic superstars Victoria | :08:21. | :08:25.
Pendleton and Jessica Ennis. Victoria went along to Knowsley | :08:25. | :08:29.
Safari Park to visit the animals. We caught up with her. It is such | :08:29. | :08:34.
an honour that somebody chose my name to name a tiny lion cub in the | :08:34. | :08:38.
UK. When I found out I was like, "Is it true?" I have been wanting | :08:38. | :08:42.
to come here and see them ever since. I have got up very close and | :08:42. | :08:45.
seen them in real-life. That is it from us for now. It is the last | :08:45. | :08:49. |
