Hi, I'm Ricky with your Monday evening update.

First, should energy drinks be banned from schools? There's a fresh

warning about them from a government adviser on school food. John Vincent

thinks the mix of sugar and caffeine can damage children's concentration

and health. He is calling for more research into the effects of the

Next to one of the most daring space missions ever attempted, landing on

a comet. We've heard in the past hour that a European spacecraft that

has been asleep in space for two and a half years has woken up to embark

on its daunting task. A comet is a massive lump of ice that is hurtling

through space. And scientists are hoping to land on one. That job is

down to the Rosetta spacecraft, which was launched back in 2004. It

has travelled hundreds of millions of kilometres in our solar system

but has been hibernating for the past two and a half years to save

energy. This morning, an alarm clock was triggered to wake up Rosetta for

the final and riskiest part of its mission. It has to chase after comet

67P, a target of just four kilometres across, and then send out

a robot to land on its icy surface. It is something that has never been

tried before. One question is where the earth god its water from. In the

comet we have a fragment of what was created for and a half million years

ago. By going there, we can test the idea that maybe comets were a source

of water. So now so now Rosetta is awake, it is time to head for its

speeding target. But it won't reach the comet till later this year.

Next, a strong earthquake has shaken New Zealand's North Island. The

quake had a magnitude of 6.3 and struck just after 3pm local time.

People there described major shaking with some damage caused to houses

and buildings. A sculpture of a giant eagle that was used to promote

the Hobbit movie and was hanging from the roof at Wellington airport

fell to the ground. There are no reports of major damage or serious

injury, though. And as always, there is plenty on
