Hi, I'm Leah and I'm live with your midweek Newsround

0:00:020:00:04

on CBBC this morning.

0:00:040:00:06

Coming up in the next few minutes: We've got some Minecraft news

0:00:060:00:09

on the way for you.

0:00:090:00:11

And why thousands of people have been leaping into icy water.

0:00:110:00:16

Big news about your favourite fairytales today as new research

0:00:250:00:28

suggests they might date back much earlier

0:00:280:00:30

than it was originally thought.

0:00:300:00:32

A study has found that stories like Beauty and the Beast

0:00:320:00:35

and Rumpelstiltskin can be traced back thousands of years

0:00:350:00:38

to prehistoric times with one tale originating from the Bronze Age.

0:00:380:00:44

That's almost 4,000 years earlier than was previously thought.

0:00:440:00:48

So that got us thinking.

0:00:480:00:49

We want to know about your favourite fairy stories.

0:00:490:00:52

Head over to the chat page on the Newsround website and tell

0:00:520:00:55

us your favourite and why.

0:00:550:00:58

Steel.

0:00:580:00:59

It's all around us.

0:00:590:01:00

It's under our feet.

0:01:000:01:01

It's above our heads.

0:01:010:01:03

It might even be in our hands.

0:01:030:01:04

It's been making headlines over the past few months as many British

0:01:040:01:07

steel workers face losing their jobs.

0:01:070:01:08

But what is steel and why is it so important to the UK?

0:01:080:01:12

Here's Jenny.

0:01:120:01:13

Steel is the most widely used metal in the world.

0:01:130:01:16

It can be extremely strong and flexible.

0:01:160:01:19

It's used to make all kinds of things like buildings and bridges.

0:01:190:01:23

Planes, trains and cars all have parts made out of steel to help

0:01:230:01:26

you get around.

0:01:260:01:28

And you'll find it all over your home in things like washing

0:01:280:01:30

machines, fridges and radiators.

0:01:300:01:33

NEWSREEL: British Steel, especially from Sheffield,

0:01:330:01:35

has long been acknowledged as being some of the best

0:01:350:01:38

in the world.

0:01:380:01:39

The UK has a long history of making steel, dating all the way back

0:01:390:01:42

to the 1800s.

0:01:420:01:43

But over the last few decades this has been changing.

0:01:430:01:47

Nowadays, it's China that leads the way producing around half

0:01:470:01:49

of the world's steel.

0:01:490:01:52

However, it's making more steel than it actually needs,

0:01:520:01:54

selling the extra stuff cheaply all around the world.

0:01:540:02:00

This is a problem for steel plants in the UK.

0:02:000:02:02

They say they are losing business because they can't match the low

0:02:020:02:05

prices of cheaper Chinese steel, forcing many UK factories

0:02:050:02:07

to shut down.

0:02:070:02:10

A steelworks in Redcar in the North East of England closed

0:02:100:02:13

last year and now more than 1,000 people will be losing their jobs

0:02:130:02:16

around the UK, with most of them at the UK's biggest steel plant

0:02:160:02:23

in Port Talbot in Wales.

0:02:230:02:24

Now the government is coming under pressure to help the plants

0:02:240:02:27

and the communities who need them for jobs.

0:02:270:02:29

The government says it's working to help staff find new jobs

0:02:290:02:32

as quickly as possible.

0:02:320:02:34

Next to news of the a new education edition of Minecraft.

0:02:340:02:37

Its makers want teachers to use the world-building video game

0:02:370:02:40

to teach different subjects like science, English and maths.

0:02:400:02:45

Microsoft are building the new game and are promising to add features

0:02:450:02:47

for the school version of the game, but schools may face extra costs

0:02:470:02:51

for the features.

0:02:510:02:52

The company say more than 7,000 classrooms around the world already

0:02:520:02:55

use Minecraft in some form.

0:02:550:02:59

They are red.

0:02:590:02:59

They are iconic and they are scattered across the UK providing

0:02:590:03:02

mail to all corners of the British Isles.

0:03:020:03:04

But for some there's more than meets the eye to the humble postbox.

0:03:040:03:07

The Letter Box Study Group are on a quest called Project Zero,

0:03:070:03:10

a mission to record historical data on the over 150,000 postboxes

0:03:100:03:13

in the UK.

0:03:130:03:16

These guys really love postboxes and the youngest member of the group

0:03:160:03:19

is 10-year-old Thomas and here's his top three postbox styles.

0:03:190:03:21

At number three, a box at World's End.

0:03:210:03:24

At number two is a box in Framlingham.

0:03:240:03:27

And at number one it's the Edward VIII Ludlow in Bournsea,

0:03:270:03:31

Suffolk.

0:03:310:03:33

Scientists in Germany have taught a drone how to land itself

0:03:330:03:36

on a moving car.

0:03:360:03:39

The researchers from the German Aerospace Centre have

0:03:390:03:41

demonstrated their aircraft safely landing on a car fitted with a net

0:03:410:03:45

travelling at nearly 50 miles per hour.

0:03:450:03:48

They say the technology could be used to let unmanned aircrafts be

0:03:480:03:51

built without wheels to let them stay in the air for longer

0:03:510:03:54

periods of time.

0:03:540:03:57

Sport now and the FA Cup dream is over for non-league Eastleigh.

0:03:570:04:00

They put up a decent effort against Championship Bolton side

0:04:000:04:03

going one up in their third round replay.

0:04:030:04:06

But they eventually lost 3-2 against Bolton who are 53 places

0:04:060:04:10

above them in the league pyramid eventually went through.

0:04:100:04:12

Darren Pratley with the winner.

0:04:120:04:15

Bolton face Leeds next.

0:04:150:04:17

But the Eastleigh manager says he's proud of his team.

0:04:170:04:22

Top that off, you know, we were very unlucky

0:04:220:04:24

but they dug in deep.

0:04:240:04:25

The lads showed great commitment, character, desire.

0:04:250:04:28

The words go on because they really have done that tonight.

0:04:280:04:35

When it's cold outside most of us crank up the heating

0:04:350:04:37

and get cosy indoors.

0:04:370:04:38

But not in Russia it seems.

0:04:380:04:40

Thousands of people braved the freezing temperatures to plunge

0:04:400:04:43

themselves into lakes, rivers and even the Black Sea

0:04:430:04:46

for big Christian religious event marking the birth

0:04:460:04:49

and baptism of Jesus.

0:04:490:04:51

That's all from me.

0:04:510:04:53

Newsround's back right here in about half

0:04:530:04:54

an hour just before 815.

0:04:540:04:55

See you then.
