on websites and social media, which are not fact, but fiction.

It's a huge problem and Ricky's been looking into it.

Maybe it has shocked, wowed you, or made you laugh.

But before you shared it, did you stop to think - is this real?

I've come to the social news and entertainment website

There are people who purposely create fake stories and make things

up in order to trick you into going onto their website

and just clicking and sharing in order to make them

So people make thousands of pounds through people like you and me

Give us an example when fake news gets out of hand.

One of our studies showed that during the US presidential election

recently, more people were sharing fake news stories than real ones.

And this was affecting the way people were voting.

So that has a huge impact on the way we make decisions.

How do we know what is real before we read or repost?

What you can do is just double check the domain name.

Sometimes people will create a domain name that looks similar

If a story seems too good to be true, what you can do is check other

If they are covering the story, it is probably true.

If you cannot find the story anywhere else,
