Hi everyone, Leah here with today's top stories. | :00:10. | :00:12.
First, Great Britain's Paralympic stars are arriving home from Rio | :00:13. | :00:16.
this morning, after their most successful Games | :00:17. | :00:18.
in nearly 30 years, winning 147 medals including 64 golds. | :00:19. | :00:22.
They're due to touch down shortly at London's Heathrow Airport. | :00:23. | :00:26.
But one athlete who's come home a bit earlier is Paralympic champion | :00:27. | :00:30.
sprinter Jonnie Peacock who joins me now. | :00:31. | :00:38.
He has got his amazing gold medal. How you feeling this morning? Good, | :00:39. | :00:45.
it is a little bit early for me. At enjoying it. You were a fan when you | :00:46. | :00:52.
were younger so some of our viewers have been in touch. Tom says, what | :00:53. | :00:59.
is it like to be a Paralympic gold medallist? I will hold this. Go | :01:00. | :01:09.
crazy. It is awesome. I am so blessed to have a great team around | :01:10. | :01:13.
me, I have an awesome coach and set up around me, so it shows if you | :01:14. | :01:17.
have got a good team and you put your mind to it, you can achieve | :01:18. | :01:21.
anything. I didn't even know I was a good sprinter Angela gave it a go. | :01:22. | :01:25.
If you want to try a sport just give it a go because you never know. | :01:26. | :01:32.
Kirsty says, how did you get into sprinting and who were your sporting | :01:33. | :01:37.
inspirations? I got into sprinting by going down to London and trying | :01:38. | :01:43.
out lots of different sports, wheelchair tennis, pistol shooting, | :01:44. | :01:48.
I did 60 metres sprint and loved it that I did it three times. Because | :01:49. | :01:52.
of that I got called up to do a programme and before I knew it I was | :01:53. | :01:56.
set up with the coach and things snowballed. I didn't know I would be | :01:57. | :02:02.
good at it, I gave it a go and someone said, you could be all | :02:03. | :02:08.
right. In terms of sporting inspirations, as a kid I was David | :02:09. | :02:15.
Beckham man, posted on the wall. Anyway he went I would follow. If it | :02:16. | :02:22.
was Manchester United or Real Madrid. He was my inspiration. And | :02:23. | :02:29.
you will continue to be the inspiration to children moving | :02:30. | :02:33.
forward. How does that feel? I don't know, I never really see it like | :02:34. | :02:41.
that! It is simple enough to say if anyone thinks they have a | :02:42. | :02:44.
possibility to get something like this, try lots of different sports, | :02:45. | :02:47.
because you do not know what you're going to enjoy until you try it. I | :02:48. | :02:51.
didn't try athletics until I was 15 or 16. We love your name, Jenny | :02:52. | :02:58.
Peacock, and we thought we were testy with other sporting stars -- | :02:59. | :03:04.
Johnny Peacock, and we thought we would test you with other sporting | :03:05. | :03:12.
names. Who is that? Tiger Woods. One point, and next? A basketball | :03:13. | :03:21.
player. Won gold at the Olympics. I am not that into basketball! That is | :03:22. | :03:32.
Sue Bird. This is a skateboarder. Tony Hawks! I used to play the | :03:33. | :03:38.
games. This medal shakes, jealous about that? -- tell us about that. | :03:39. | :03:45.
Because some guys are visually impaired, they got something special | :03:46. | :03:49.
here, so it makes a bit of the noise. Thank you for joining us. | :03:50. | :03:53.
It's that time of year where grey seal pups are being born on beaches | :03:54. | :03:56.
around the UK as pupping season gets going. | :03:57. | :03:58.
But experts in Cornwall in the south-west of England | :03:59. | :04:00.
are worried, because some of them are being forced into the water | :04:01. | :04:03.
Ayshah's been looking into this for us. | :04:04. | :04:06.
The golden beaches and the rocky coves of the UK coast are home | :04:07. | :04:09.
to 38% of the world's population of grey seals. | :04:10. | :04:11.
If you're really lucky, you might see one out at sea | :04:12. | :04:14.
Or you can spot them on beach just having a nap. | :04:15. | :04:18.
This is Snoozy, one of the first pups of the season. | :04:19. | :04:23.
But Snoozy has had a tough time after being pushed back into the sea | :04:24. | :04:27.
by passers-by who thought that's where he should be. | :04:28. | :04:31.
Young seal pups are very small when they come out of their mothers, | :04:32. | :04:34.
and they have a lot of growing to do. | :04:35. | :04:37.
They don't have any muscle so they aren't very good swimmers. | :04:38. | :04:39.
The last thing that we want people to do is put them back in the water. | :04:40. | :04:43.
Grey seals are surprisingly rare, there are about the same number | :04:44. | :04:46.
of them as there are African elephants in the world so it's | :04:47. | :04:48.
really important that we look after them here and make sure that | :04:49. | :04:52.
as many as of our pups survive as possible. | :04:53. | :04:54.
I have just got a call about a baby seal pup being rescued so we're | :04:55. | :04:57.
going to go straight to the sanctuary to find | :04:58. | :05:00.
Rescue pups often end up here at the Cornish seal sanctuary, | :05:01. | :05:05.
where they are cared for by a team of vets and animal experts. | :05:06. | :05:09.
So the little fellow is off to get checked out, | :05:10. | :05:12.
we can't go in any further, it's kind of like being in hospital. | :05:13. | :05:15.
The doctor is going to have a look at him, they're going to get him | :05:16. | :05:19.
hydrated and everything because he was out on his own, | :05:20. | :05:21.
We had a phone call earlier this morning about a young seal pup | :05:22. | :05:30.
that was potentially distressed, so a couple of our guys went down | :05:31. | :05:33.
and found the seal pup and it was wedged between two rocks. | :05:34. | :05:36.
We think it's probably about four weeks old. | :05:37. | :05:40.
What would you say to people who saw grey seal pups on the beach? | :05:41. | :05:44.
When a pup is on the beach, and it's on its own, | :05:45. | :05:47.
people sometimes think that they need to chase it back | :05:48. | :05:50.
into the water or physically pick it up and put it in the water | :05:51. | :05:53.
but that's completely the wrong thing to do. | :05:54. | :05:55.
If you do see a seal pup, leave it alone, keep well back | :05:56. | :05:58.
from it, keep dogs away and just contact us and we'll get people | :05:59. | :06:01.
The sanctuary have called the new arrival Orca. | :06:02. | :06:06.
He is doing well and will probably be released in a few months. | :06:07. | :06:09.
Fortunately, the work here has given these seals a fighting chance. | :06:10. | :06:13.
But what the team wants to do is avoid them coming in the first | :06:14. | :06:17.
place by leaving them well alone in the wild. | :06:18. | :06:23.
That's all from me, Newsround's back at 4:20 this afternoon with loads | :06:24. | :06:30.
more from the Paralympics GB homecoming at Heathrow Airport. | :06:31. | :06:32. |
