Hello. Tonight, one of the world's most wanted men has been captured

and killed in Libya. Over the next eight minutes, we will bring you

the latest details on the death of Colonel Gaddafi. Also: Wales get

ready to fight for their third place at the Rugby World Cup.

So, our top story: In the last couple of hours, the world has been

told that Colonel Gaddafi, who led Libya for over 40 years and was

overthrown in August, has been caught and killed. As soon as the

news came out, thousands of people came out on to the streets,

chanting and waving flags. These are the latest pictures from Libya.

As you can see, Libyans out on the streets celebrating the end of

Gaddafi's dictatorship. Joining us now is BBC World affairs reporter,

Mark Doyle. You have met Colonel Gaddafi yourself. Talk us through

what's been happening today? What happened today is that all of these

people who have been demonstrating against Colonel Gaddafi's

dictatorship - he ruled without their being elections - so he ruled

with him and his family only. He was cornered by the fighters in a

town called Sirte, which is in northern Libya. For those people

who don't know where Libya is, let's have a look at a map. This is

where it is in relation to the UK. That is Libya. Tripoli, the capital,

is on the coast. He was found in Sirte, his hometown. That's right.

What this means is that because these demonstrators, anti-Gaddafi

fighters have captured Sirte, or they control almost all of Sirte.

They say they have captured and killed Colonel Gaddafi as well.

This means the anti-Gaddafi forces control the whole of Libya. It has

taken nine months now. They have been showing pictures of the body

of Colonel Gaddafi. I have met him personally. It does look like him.

Thank you. Let's remind ourselves what's been happening in Libya over

the last few months. For thousands of Libyans, the

nightmare is over. The sound of car horns beeping, people cheering and

celebratory gunshots in the air are filling the streets. Colonel

Gaddafi had been wanted since February. He went into hiding after

a large group of protesters decided that they were sick of how he was

running the country and wanted to do it themselves. Things soon

turned violent. British planes were sent in along with those from other

countries to support the rebels and try and stop ordinary people being

killed. The rebel group took control of many large Libyan towns

and cities but Gaddafi's forces fought back, hard. Many on both

sides died. But today it looks like it is all over for the forces loyal

to Gaddafi. We are being told their leader was found in a hole in his

hometown of Sirte. He was captured and died from his injuries. People

in Libya today have an even greater chance after this news of building

themselves a strong and democratic future. I'm proud of the role that

Britain has played in helping them to bring that about. I pay tribute

to the bravery of the Libyans who have helped to liberate their

country. Many Libyans had wanted Gaddafi caught alive. They had

hoped that one day he would face trial for the attacks he ordered on

his own people, but now that day will never come.

Libyans have been waiting for this moment for quite a while. What kind

of a big deal does this mean for them? What it means for Libyans, we

hope, is that they will build a free and democratic society. Now,

it's not certain that is going to happen. Libya is quite a rich

country. It's got lots of oil and quite well educated people, lots of

exiles, some of them came here, a lot of those will be going back now

- doctors, professionals and so on. They will want to create a new and

free country. So it's a chance for them to start afresh? It is. Libya

has a lot of chances. Partly because it's got so much oil money.

It could become a fantastic tourism destination. It seems unlikely now.

It does have Roman ruins, fantastic beaches. It has a chance now to

move forward. 40 years of dictatorship is a long time. Thank

Sport: They may not have made it to the World Cup final, but Wales

could still get a medal if things go their way tomorrow morning.

day, but not until they have released another album and been on

tour. They have had 14 number ones. They are not the first ones to do

that. Our obsession with boybands goes way back. His obsession!

regular guys from Ireland turned international superstars. Westlife

were record-breakers. Their first seven singles went to number one.

Over the last decade-and-a-half, they have sold records in their

bucket-loads. Last night their manager announced the end of an era.

Probably the best people I have ever worked with. Hard-working,

great songs and good singers. They still have it all. They want to

leave on top. Westlife are one boyband to have come and gone over

the years. In the '60s, Beatlemania went global. Every time the Beatles

performed hundreds of screaming girls turned out to see them. Then

came these guys, the Bay City Rollers. They loved tartan and for

a while they were massive. Take That rocked up a few years later.

They had loads of fans. But when Robbie left, things weren't the

same. A year later, they split up. But they got back together and are

now bigger than ever. Loads of other groups followed including

Boyzone. That's not the end of the story. TV talent shows are keeping

boybands going strong. JLS were on the show and they have had two

number ones. These are the new kids on the block, The Wanted and One

Direction. They both topped the charts and this weekend The Wanted

are hoping to bag their third. Westlife fans might be feeling a

bit tearful today, but luckily there are lots of other bands to
