It's Tuesday, 20th November. I'm Nel. And I'm Ricky. Here's what's | :00:08. | :00:13.
coming up in the next nine minutes. What next for Becks when he leaves | :00:13. | :00:17.
Joe meets some very furry firefighters. | :00:17. | :00:21.
And stuck Santa! We'll see if he claws his way out later in the show. | :00:21. | :00:31.
:00:31. | :00:41. | ||
This is Newsround. But first, should women be allowed | :00:41. | :00:44.
to become Bishops? That's what the Church of England is set to decide | :00:44. | :00:48.
within the next hour. At the moment, women are only allowed to be | :00:49. | :00:51.
priests, and there's been a big debate about whether they should be | :00:52. | :00:56.
able to take the next step up. I've been looking at both sides of the | :00:56. | :01:02.
argument. Throughout history women have had to fight to be seen as | :01:02. | :01:08.
equal to men. Because of that, we can now vote, join the Army, we can | :01:08. | :01:12.
even be Prime Minister. One thing women still can't do in England is | :01:12. | :01:17.
be a bit. That all could change today as the leaders of the Church | :01:17. | :01:22.
of England vote on the issue. It's 20 years since women were | :01:22. | :01:25.
allowed to become priests. Some say there is though reason they | :01:25. | :01:29.
shouldn't be allowed to take up the next step: We've got a lot of young | :01:29. | :01:33.
women growing up in the Church. The message we are giving to them is we | :01:33. | :01:37.
only want you to prepare the altar, put the flowers on, make the tea, | :01:37. | :01:41.
clean the church, but that's all you're good for that. Is an | :01:41. | :01:45.
unacceptable message. But many in the Church disagree over the issue. | :01:45. | :01:49.
Why can't a woman be a Bishop or a priest? I believe that a woman can | :01:49. | :01:54.
be no more a priest than I can be a mother. It is as basic to nature | :01:54. | :01:58.
and to the way God ordered things as that. But they are allowed to | :01:58. | :02:01.
become priests at the moment, so what's the problem with that? | :02:01. | :02:06.
only do we not believe that women can be ordained as priests, or we | :02:06. | :02:12.
have grave doubts about it, we must have equally grave doubts that they | :02:12. | :02:17.
can be Bishop. The Church of England has the keen as its head. | :02:17. | :02:21.
It is split into different areas known as diocese. Each area is run | :02:21. | :02:25.
by a priest. The Church of England is part of a wider community, the | :02:25. | :02:29.
Anglican church, which has tens of millions of followers worldwide. It | :02:29. | :02:32.
may seem triesing that when it comes to being a Bishop men and | :02:32. | :02:36.
women aren't seen as equals. But the Church of England is considered | :02:36. | :02:40.
to be way ahead of other religions when it comes to giving women power. | :02:40. | :02:44.
If the vote goes through today it could mean that we see female | :02:44. | :02:48.
Bishops by 2014. On the Newsround website today your | :02:48. | :02:56.
thoughts have been flooding in about this guy's next move. We've | :02:56. | :03:01.
had so many comments. Manchester United says Benjamin in Liverpool | :03:01. | :03:06.
says Kieran in if West Midlands. And we've got Chelsea, say Ashley | :03:06. | :03:09.
and Matthew. They're all answering the big question: What next for | :03:09. | :03:11.
David Beckham? It's after the former England captain announced | :03:11. | :03:21.
he's leaving his club, LA Galaxy, in America next month. David | :03:21. | :03:27.
Beckham, where is he heading next? The most famous man in sport is on | :03:27. | :03:35.
the move. Real Madrid, AC Milan and LA Galaxy. He was once England's | :03:35. | :03:42.
Captain. David Beckham started his career as a 14-year-old trainee | :03:42. | :03:45.
here at Manchester United. The midfielder went on the make 398 | :03:45. | :03:50.
appearances for the club, winning six Premier League titles a | :03:50. | :03:54.
Champions League and the attention of the world. At 37 Becks is | :03:54. | :03:57.
certainly no spring chicken. He isn't quite ready to hang up his | :03:57. | :04:07.
:04:07. | :04:17. | ||
boots just yet, but in a statement So where next? I've come down to | :04:18. | :04:22.
the BBC sports HQ to find out what the footie experts think. Chris, | :04:22. | :04:28.
what do we think of David Beckham's options? David Beckham is a massive | :04:28. | :04:32.
name, a global brand. He has offers from Australia, from China, where | :04:32. | :04:37.
he is a God. He's a God in Asia. He could play in the Premiership. He | :04:37. | :04:41.
has plenty of options. For now he says he wants a new challenge and | :04:41. | :04:49.
is keeping us all hanging. David's wife, Spice Girl Victoria Beckham | :04:49. | :04:53.
has cracked America. Her fashion label is hugely successful. With | :04:53. | :04:57.
New York as the fashion capital of the world she might hold the key | :04:57. | :05:03.
that their next move. He's made it clear he isn't ready to quit the | :05:03. | :05:07.
beautiful game just yet. Ricky, that voice, I don't know what to | :05:07. | :05:17.
:05:17. | :05:28. | ||
say. I'm sorry about that. It Let's go to Pakistan now to update | :05:28. | :05:31.
you on a story we told you about in September. A Christian schoolgirl | :05:31. | :05:34.
who was accused of burning pages of a religious text book has been | :05:34. | :05:37.
cleared of doing anything wrong. 14-year-old Rimsha Masih was facing | :05:37. | :05:47.
:05:47. | :05:47. | ||
jail. Tulip Mazumdar is in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. | :05:47. | :05:52.
Some of Rimsha's neighbours had accused her after tearing pages out | :05:52. | :05:56.
of a textbook which concern children use to learn about the | :05:56. | :06:01.
Koran and setting fire to them. Doing anything bad to Islamic | :06:01. | :06:05.
religious texts here in Pakistan is a very serious offence. Rimsha and | :06:05. | :06:08.
her family have been in hiding because a small number of people | :06:09. | :06:14.
here have threatened to hurt her. But now judges at a top court have | :06:14. | :06:21.
decided there isn't enough evidence to charge Rimsha and she's been | :06:21. | :06:24.
declared innocent. A religious leader has been accused of putting | :06:24. | :06:29.
the burnt pages into Rimsha's bag so she would get into trouble. He | :06:29. | :06:33.
will now face trouble. At the start of the show we showed | :06:33. | :06:36.
you a very stuck Santa. He usually comes down the chimney, but Father | :06:36. | :06:39.
Christmas got into trouble when he decided to abseil instead. He got | :06:39. | :06:43.
his beard stuck in the rope trying to get into a shopping centre in | :06:43. | :06:46.
Reading! Keep watching until the end of the programme to find out if | :06:46. | :06:49.
he got down. Next, fire dogs. Not the name of a | :06:49. | :06:51.
new Disney animation, but the new super-skilled detectives London | :06:51. | :06:59.
Fire Brigade are looking to recruit. Joe's got this one. Arson is a big | :06:59. | :07:02.
problem in London. Almost half of all fires are started deliberately | :07:02. | :07:06.
in the capital, and catching criminals a big job. Before the | :07:07. | :07:10.
police can investigate whether or not a fire was started deliberately, | :07:10. | :07:16.
the Fire Brigade need to send in their crack team of vectors - Sam | :07:16. | :07:21.
and Ross co. Sam and Ross co have been fire dogs at London Fire | :07:21. | :07:27.
Brigade for eight years. It is their job to search fire-damaged | :07:27. | :07:30.
build position find flammable substance which is may have been | :07:30. | :07:35.
used to start a blais. There are only 14 fire dogs in the whole | :07:35. | :07:39.
country. But soon they'll be retiring and the Fire Brigade are | :07:39. | :07:43.
on the lookout for a new team of highly-skilled officers to replace | :07:43. | :07:49.
them. First, they have to put protective equipment on. Here's the | :07:49. | :07:58.
test. Mick is going to going to pour a tiny spot of substance on | :07:58. | :08:07.
this rag. It is up to Sam to find That's amazing. What was that, 40 | :08:07. | :08:12.
seconds? 40 seconds to search the whole room. Sam is retiring. Will | :08:12. | :08:19.
it be sad when he hangs occupy his boots? Very sad, he will want to | :08:19. | :08:25.
carry on working but very the have to retire them at eight. Murphy is | :08:25. | :08:29.
only a puppy but he is already auditioning. All the indications | :08:29. | :08:34.
are good. He really wants to climb, jump, run around and get involved | :08:34. | :08:43.
in what we're doing. Soon Sam and Rosco will be on the next call-out. | :08:43. | :08:46.
Murphy could be part of the next generation of fire dogs. | :08:47. | :08:49.
OK - Santa update time! And you can stop worrying. Phew! Rescuers | :08:50. | :08:53. |
