Hi, I'm Ayshah and this is your

Wednesday afternoon Newsround.

0:00:120:00:15

First, if you've ever shared,

liked or commented on something

0:00:150:00:20

on social media, you might

want to know about this next story.

0:00:200:00:24

We might not think about it much,

but everything we do online builds

0:00:240:00:27

up a picture of our personalities.

0:00:270:00:31

For example who we're friends

with on social media

0:00:310:00:34

and when we comment,

like or share something.

0:00:340:00:37

Social media companies use this

information to make money ?

0:00:370:00:40

they sell it to companies

who want to know what we might

0:00:400:00:43

want to buy next, where we might

want to go on the weekend,

0:00:430:00:46

or even what new TV shows

we might want to watch.

0:00:460:00:49

It's is a big story right now

because people are wondering

0:00:490:00:52

whether this information might have

helped Donald Trump get elected

0:00:520:00:54

President of the US.

0:00:540:01:01

Ok, it might all sound a bit

weird, but bear with us.

0:01:010:01:04

Knowing someone's personality,

what they like and what they don't

0:01:040:01:06

like, might tell us more about them

? including, for adults,

0:01:060:01:09

how they might vote in an election.

0:01:090:01:13

And that might help politicians work

out how to target particular

0:01:130:01:17

voters over social media.

Now it's claimed that a company

0:01:170:01:20

called Cambridge Analytica used

information from a Facebook

0:01:200:01:23

personality quiz to find out

about the personalities of thousands

0:01:230:01:27

of people who took the quiz.

0:01:270:01:31

They also got info on millions

of their online friends as well.

0:01:310:01:36

And it's also been claimed

that Cambridge Analytica

0:01:360:01:42

used this information

about their personalities

0:01:420:01:43

without their permission to help

the campaigns of politicians,

0:01:430:01:45

including Donald Trump.

0:01:450:01:47

But there are rules which mean

companies like this should be very

0:01:470:01:49

careful about what they do

with our information.

0:01:490:01:53

The claims about Cambridge Analytica

and Facebook are now

0:01:530:01:56

being investigated.

0:01:560:01:58

Cambridge Analytica says it didn't

do anything wrong and it only uses

0:01:580:02:01

information which has been taken

legally and fairly.

0:02:010:02:07

Facebook says it's made changes

to try and stop this happening again

0:02:070:02:10

and is also carrying

out its own investigation.

0:02:100:02:17

The superstars of the Winter

Paralympics, Menna Fitzpatrick

0:02:170:02:19

and her guide Jen Kehoe,

have conquered the mountains

0:02:190:02:21

of South Korea.

0:02:210:02:24

But can they take

on our super tough quiz?

0:02:240:02:30

BOTH: Oh...

0:02:340:02:37

I don't know.

0:02:370:02:38

That is tough.

0:02:380:02:45

Disney features quite a lot.

0:02:450:02:50

She's definitely in bed

earlier than I am.

0:02:500:02:53

She doesn't believe she snores,

but I've actually got the dual

0:02:550:02:57

recording a person ordering.

0:02:570:03:02

-- video recording of her snoring.

0:03:020:03:04

Oh, I don't know.

0:03:040:03:05

I don't think we've seen each

other dance that much.

0:03:050:03:07

No.

0:03:070:03:08

Possibly.

0:03:080:03:09

No.

0:03:090:03:10

In absence of a sensible answer,

I'm going to back myself!

0:03:100:03:13

Both pretty even.

0:03:160:03:18

I wouldn't like to commit.

0:03:180:03:21

I'd say both of us.

0:03:210:03:23

She follows me,

I think that's brave.

0:03:230:03:25

So after our super tough quiz,

is there anything they didn't

0:03:250:03:27

know about each other?

0:03:270:03:30

It's thrown up that we need

to go dancing together.

0:03:300:03:32

Yeah.

0:03:320:03:36

Next, it's been a big day

for this little guy...

0:03:380:03:41

The first polar bear to be born

in the UK in 25 years made its first

0:03:410:03:45

public appearance today.

0:03:450:03:47

The cute cub lives at

the Royal Zoological Society's

0:03:470:03:49

Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland.

0:03:490:03:53

After spending the first four months

of its life in private with its mum,

0:03:530:03:57

the time has come for it to venture

out of the den and explore.

0:03:570:04:05

So sweet!

0:04:070:04:07

Head online for loads

more from Newsround,

0:04:070:04:10

including a sporting disagreement

with a difference.

0:04:100:04:12

Are tennis balls yellow

or are they green?

0:04:120:04:14

We know what tennis ace

Roger Federer thinks!

0:04:140:04:16

But we want to get your

view so let us know.

0:04:160:04:24

Well, clearly it's green! Look at

this massive thing! I'm in trouble!

0:04:250:04:30

Finally, if you had a rough

day at school today,

0:04:300:04:32

spare a thought for the guys

who made the mistake

0:04:320:04:34

that caused this mess...

0:04:340:04:36

This spewing fountain of water burst

through a major road in the US,

0:04:360:04:39

stopping traffic for several hours.

0:04:390:04:40

The plume of water was

several metres high.

0:04:400:04:42

It happened after a water

pipe was damaged.

0:04:420:04:44

What a clean-up job

that will have been!

0:04:440:04:50

That's all for today.

0:04:500:04:51

Newsround's back in the morning.

0:04:510:04:52
