First to France, where there are extra police

on the streets today, trying to make sure people are safe.

It's after police officers were attacked

in the capital, Paris, last night.

One policeman died in the shooting.

People have been leaving flowers to pay tribute today.

It's a really important weekend in France,

because an election is taking place to find a new president.

Back here, there have been events in London to mark

the Queen's 91st birthday today,

including this band of guards at Buckingham Palace.

This photo from 1926 has also been shared.

It shows Queen Elizabeth as a one-month-old baby,

being held by her parents at her christening.

Well, did you know that today

is actually the first of Her Majesty's two birthdays?

Hoping to be queen of gymnastics later today is Ellie Downie.

At the European Gymnastics Championships in Romania,

the 17-year-old's made it into ever individual final.

That's something no other British gymnast has achieved before

at an international competition.

Ellie says she's put in some of her best performances,

and judging by that, I think I'd agree!

Staying with European competitions, the draw for the semifinals

of the Champions League and Europa League

took place earlier today.

Manchester United have been drawn

against Spanish side Celta Vigo in the Europa League.

Man United are the only British men's side

left in a European competition.

The big news from the Champions League draw

is that last year's finalists, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid,

will face each other again in the semis.

It's the fourth year in a row

they'll play each other in the competition.

Sticking with the Champions League,

and there's only one British footy team left now -

Manchester City Women.

They're taking on French side Lyon tomorrow

in the first of two semifinal matches.

Whitney went to meet one of the club's biggest stars

and the youth academy players.

I support Man City.

My favourite players are Carli Lloyd and Toni Duggan.

I think Lucy Bronze will score the first goal.

I think Man City will score three to four goals in the match.

I love football, because it entertains many people.

Oh! Thanks, guys, nearly missed that one.

Izzy, big match on Saturday, how are you feeling?

Excited! It's going to be amazing, really.

I mean, Champions League semifinal, it's what dreams are made of.

Definitely - I want to say congratulations,

the only UK team in the semifinals.

You started off at a young age,

what advice would you give to young children that want to be you?

Definitely enjoy it.

When I was younger, I used to just kick the ball round in the streets

until my mum and dad told me to come in for my tea.

Like these girls are doing today, it's all part of enjoying it

and having fun and making friends.

I played with my brother and his friends,

so I was pretty lucky to grow up in a community

where the boys embraced my talents as a female footballer,

and I think the more of that that happens, the better,

cos I think there's real benefits from young girls playing with boys.

And how do you feel about being a role model?

We had an FA Cup semifinal on Monday,

we had 3500 people in the stadium, maybe 3000 of them were young girls

who were obviously aspiring to be like us when there little bit older,

and it's an amazing feeling for us, knowing that we're inspiring them.

Come on, City!

Another big sporting event taking place this weekend

is the London Marathon, with around 40,000 runners

doing 26.2 miles across the capital on Sunday.
