Good morning, I'm Ayshah with Thursday's top stories. | :00:00. | :00:00.
And we speak to the star of the new BFG film. | :00:00. | :00:22.
Footie news first though, and it's expected that Sam Allardyce | :00:23. | :00:28.
will be confirmed as the new England manager later today. | :00:29. | :00:30.
Allardyce has been Sunderland boss for the last nine months and managed | :00:31. | :00:33.
to keep his team in the Premier League last season. | :00:34. | :00:35.
He's thought to have met with the Football Association last | :00:36. | :00:40.
week to talk about replacing Roy Hodgson, who quit in June | :00:41. | :00:43.
after England's surprise defeat to Iceland in the Euros. | :00:44. | :00:46.
Each year, scientists at the Sea Watch Foundation lead | :00:47. | :00:49.
a week-long campaign at the start of the summer holidays to get | :00:50. | :00:52.
you guys, and grown-ups, out and about around the UK, | :00:53. | :00:56.
and we've sent Martin to Cardigan Bay in Wales to join | :00:57. | :00:59.
in with some young dolphin spotters. | :01:00. | :01:03.
A coast dotted by fishing villages, seaside resorts and beautiful | :01:04. | :01:09.
But perhaps it's best known as the home of the UK's largest | :01:10. | :01:14.
Over the past 40 years, whales, dolphins and harbour porpoises have | :01:15. | :01:21.
been monitored by scientists and volunteers all around the coast. | :01:22. | :01:27.
And today I've joined these guys to take part in one of the annual | :01:28. | :01:30.
organised watches here on the Welsh coast. | :01:31. | :01:32.
Seawatch's conservation work hopes to improve the protection of whales | :01:33. | :01:36.
and dolphins around Britain and Ireland by keeping track of, | :01:37. | :01:40.
and identifying the individual animals here. | :01:41. | :01:47.
Despite whoever's at sea, not one dolphin appeared. | :01:48. | :01:52.
But that didn't stop these guys, who are back on land to try things | :01:53. | :01:55.
I've looked out about five times, and every time I'm convinced that | :01:56. | :02:01.
So, despite the disappointment so far, how were they feeling? | :02:02. | :02:07.
I quite like doing this sort of thing, but I haven't really | :02:08. | :02:10.
I felt quite disappointed that we didn't see a dolphin, | :02:11. | :02:15.
but I'm hoping that we'll see one later today. | :02:16. | :02:17.
I was really, really hoping to see one out in the wild, | :02:18. | :02:20.
29 species of whale, dolphin and porpoise have been | :02:21. | :02:26.
13 species have been identified during whale and dolphin | :02:27. | :02:33.
Basically, we want to know what's out there. | :02:34. | :02:41.
We need as many eyes as possible on the sea over the National Whale | :02:42. | :02:46.
and Dolphin Watch, so we'd like to encourage as many people | :02:47. | :02:48.
If anyone can go out there with their families over that | :02:49. | :02:52.
nine-day period that starts on Saturday, the more the better. | :02:53. | :02:57.
The more data we get on dolphins and the more information | :02:58. | :02:59.
We've now been looking for dolphins for six hours. | :03:00. | :03:05.
This morning we didn't get any luck, and I was quite disappointed | :03:06. | :03:20.
and I really wanted to see a dolphin in the end of the day. | :03:21. | :03:24.
And it shows that if you have patience and you wait and you look, | :03:25. | :03:27.
Now to one of the biggest and possibly friendliest | :03:28. | :03:37.
Roald Dahl's classic book the BFG has been turned into a film. | :03:38. | :03:43.
One of the stars of the movie is Ruby Barnhill, who plays | :03:44. | :03:51.
Well, Ruby is here in the studio for us | :03:52. | :03:53.
Well, loads of our viewers are big Roald Dahl fans and they've sent | :03:54. | :03:58.
Hope from Aberfeldy in Scotland asks, | :03:59. | :04:01.
"What was it like filming and how did you feel? | :04:02. | :04:11.
I was really nervous because I was really unsure about everything but | :04:12. | :04:20.
Stephen and the director, Mark who plays the BFG and everyone on made | :04:21. | :04:23.
me feel comfortable. That helped a lot. | :04:24. | :04:25.
Farah in Surrey asks, "How did it feel to pretend | :04:26. | :04:27.
there was an actual giant there when filming?" | :04:28. | :04:33.
Mark was there all the time on a lift so they would be somebody to | :04:34. | :04:43.
look at, the body movements of the BFG and the physical movements stop | :04:44. | :04:48.
but I think most actors and actresses would say it was a bit | :04:49. | :04:51.
unusual, but because it was my first film it was quite interesting so I | :04:52. | :04:58.
really it. So, it was lovely to play up against something? It would get | :04:59. | :05:02.
quite hard sometimes but it was really fun. | :05:03. | :05:04.
Isabel in Devon says, "What is your favourite Roald Dahl book?" | :05:05. | :05:08.
The first Roald Dahl book I read was fantastic Mr Fox and I still really | :05:09. | :05:20.
love that and I also really love George's marvellous... Thank you. | :05:21. | :05:26.
Maybe you're planning a trip to the cinema this summer | :05:27. | :05:28.
or perhaps you have something else fantastic planned? | :05:29. | :05:30.
Whatever you're up to once schools out, we want to know. | :05:31. | :05:33.
Tell us over on the Newsround website. | :05:34. | :05:35.
Finally, the conservationist getting ready to fly with swans. | :05:36. | :05:39.
Sacha Dench is going to go with them as they migrate from | :05:40. | :05:42.
She'll do it by using this motor-propelled parachute. | :05:43. | :05:45.
It's all to find out why their numbers are in decline. | :05:46. | :05:48.
That's it for the morning, Newsround's back with Leah | :05:49. | :05:51. |
